DAILY DOSE 25th DEC – 2024 CURRENT AFFAIRS

 

1) The foundation stone of the Ken-Betwa River link project laid by PM Modi on December 25.

  • The foundation stone of the Ken-Betwa River linking project, the first initiative under the national river interlinking policy, laid by PM Narendra Modi at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh.
  • On December 25, PM Modi came to Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district to lay the foundation stone of the project.
  • Under this project, drinking water will be provided to about 44 lakh people in 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh and 21 lakh people in Uttar Pradesh, which is estimated to cost Rs 44,605 ​​crore.
  • Under this project, around 7.18 lakh farmer families of 2,000 villages will be benefited, which will also generate 103 MW hydropower and 27 MW solar power.

 

2) 27th SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award presented to Jaishankar for leadership.

  • The South Indian Education Society (SIES) awarded External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar the Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi National Eminence Award for Public Leadership.
  • The awards are named after the late Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati, the 68th seer of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.
  • He led the spiritual awakening at a critical juncture of contemporary history.

 

3) A $500 million loan was signed by the Government of India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 20th December 2024.

  • This loan has been signed to support green and sustainable infrastructure projects aligned with India’s climate commitments.
  • The ADB loan will be extended to the India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL).
  • Juhi Mukherjee Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, for the Government of India, and Country Director Mio Oka for ADB were the signatories to the Financing Environmentally Sustainable Growth in Infrastructure Project.

 

4) Good Governance Day: 25 December

  • Good Governance Day, or Sushasan Diwas, is observed every year on 25 December to mark the anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • This year is commemorated as the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • The centenary celebrations commenced with the inauguration of the Atal Swasthya Mela in Lucknow.
  • Atal Smriti Sabhas will be held at different places. Schools and colleges will also hold poetry recitations and other events based on Vajpayee’s works.

 

5) Total 15 tableaux have been selected from various states and UTs for Republic Day Parade 2025.

  • According to Ministry of Defence, the theme of tableaux for Republic Day 2025 will be ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’.
  • Fifteen states and UTs include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Dadar Nagar Haveli and Daman, and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka and among others.
  • 11 Ministries and the Department of Union government have also been selected for Republic Day Parade 2025.
  • The selected tableaux would showcase India’s diverse strengths.

 

6) A committee was formed by the government to look into the overall capability development of the IAF.

  • Amid the growing airpower of China and Pakistan and the shortage of fighter jets in the Indian Air Force, the Defence Ministry has set up a high-level committee.
  • The committee, headed by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, will focus on overall capability development of the Air Force through indigenous design, development, and acquisition projects.
  • The Indian Air Force made detailed presentations to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the Air Force Commanders’ Conference in the national capital in November 2024, leading to the formation of the committee.

 

7) Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI)

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently attended Christmas celebrations at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) in New Delhi.
  • This marked a historic first, as no Prime Minister had previously participated in such an event at the CBCI headquarters, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the CBCI.
  • During the event, Modi engaged with prominent figures from the Christian community, including Cardinals and Bishops. He extended Christmas greetings and reflected on attending a previous celebration at Union Minister George Kurian’s residence.

 

8) Indore Airport to Become India’s First Zero-Waste Airport

  • Indore, recognized as India’s cleanest city, is making strides in sustainability, and is set to become the first zero-waste airport in the country
  • This initiative focuses on comprehensive waste management, recycling waste generated by both the airport and its aircraft.
  • The zero-waste project adheres to the 4R principle – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Restore. This framework aims to minimize waste generation while maximizing resource recovery.

 

9) Bihar to Host Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025

  • Bihar is preparing to host the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup in March 2025, which marks the second time the state has organized this prestigious event, following its successful inaugural tournament in 2012
  • The matches will be held at the Rajgir Sports Academy, which features a modern indoor stadium with a capacity of 5,000 spectators.
  • The tournament will feature teams from eight Asian countries. Confirmed participants include India, China, Japan, South Korea, and Nepal. There is potential participation from Pakistan as well.

 

10) TRAI Introduces New Telecom Regulations

  • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced amendments to enhance consumer protection in the telecom sector.
  • The Telecom Consumers Protection (Twelfth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, and the Telecommunication Tariff (Seventieth Amendment) Order, 2024 were published recently, aim to improve the experience for consumers while ensuring fair practices among service providers.
