DAILY DOSE 9TH MARCH CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) First meeting of Central Asia JW Group on Afghanistan held in India
- The first meeting of the India-Central Asia Joint Working Group on Afghanistan was held in New Delhi in March 2023.
- The meeting was attended by the Special Envoys and Senior Officials of India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, & Uzbekistan.
- Participants discussed regional threats of terrorism, extremism, radicalization, and drug trafficking emerging from Afghanistan.
2) Indian Railways to launch Bharat Gaurav train from Mumbai to Madurai
- Indian Railways is going to run the Bharat Gaurav train from Mumbai to Renigunta and back from 9 March 2023.
- Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train is in line with the Government of India initiative “Dekho Apna Desh” to promote domestic tourism.
- This IRCTC tourist train will be an all-inclusive tour package and IRCTC will make efforts to provide a safe and memorable experience to the guests.
3) Australian PM Anthony Albanese arrives in India on 4 day visit
- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in India on 8 March 2023.
- Albanese is in India for India-Australia Summit which will be concluded on 11 March 2023.
- It is PM Albanese’s first bilateral visit to India since the Labour Party government was sworn in in May 2022.
- The visit to India aims to further strengthen India-Australia bilateral relations.
4) Five-day Yaoshang festival begins in Manipur
- The Yaoshang festival began on 7 March 2023 in Manipur.
- It is celebrated for five days in spring, starting on the full moon day of the month of Lamda (February-March).
- The festival is celebrated by the Meetei who are predominantly Hindu and it is celebrated at the same time as Holi.
- On the second day, groups of local bands perform sankirtan in the Govindagee Temple in Imphal.
5) Hardeep Singh Puri launches Swachhotsav under Swachh Bharat Mission
- Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched Swachhotsav, 3-week women-led swachhata campaign, under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.
- It aims to recognize and celebrate the transition from women in sanitation to women-led sanitation.
- At the launch, the first edition of Women Icons leading Sanitation & Waste Management (WINS) Challenge-2023 was also announced.
6) Grp Cptn Shaliza Dhami becomes 1st woman to command frontline IAF Unit
- Group Captain Shaliza Dhami has become the first woman officer in the Indian Air Force to command a front line combat unit.
- She will command a missile squadron in the Western sector.
- She was commissioned as helicopter pilot in 2003, and has over 2800 hours of flying experience and is commended by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief on two occasions.
7) Union MOS Dr L Murugan Presents National Photography Awards
- The Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Dr L. Murugan presented the 8th National Photography Awards.
- Winners List of the 8th National Photography Awards:
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Ms Sipra Das
- Professional Photographer of the Year Award – Shri Sasi Kumar Ramachandran
- Special Mention Awards in the Professional category
8) A new species of gecko discovered: Phyllurus fimbriatus
- Phyllurus fimbriatus is a new species of gecko, has been discovered on an uninhabited Queensland Island of Australia.
- The carnivorous reptile measures about 15 cm in length and has a spiny leaf-shaped tail and a beaky face
- The lizard was named the Scawfell Island leaf-tailed gecko due to the fringe of spines around its tail.
