1) World Bank slashes global economic growth forecast for 2022
- World Bank has slashed the global economic growth forecast for 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
- It has been predicted that the world economy will expand 2.9% in 2022.
- It will be down from last year’s 5.7% global growth and from the 4.1% it had forecast in January 2022.
- Many countries are likely to face a recession.
2) AICTE – 1st accreditation body to hold office space in metaverse
- The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on 6 June 2022 became the first accreditation body in the world to have its own office space in the metaverse.
- Information Data Systems Inc. (IDS) unveiled the outlook of the AICTE in the metaverse in an event on 6 June 2022.
- In the same event Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also launched Polyversity, an educational metaverse.
3) SEBI restructures mutual fund advisory committee
- Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has restructured its advisory committee on mutual funds.
- The 25-member advisory committee will be chaired by former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Usha Thorat.
- The committee’s mission is to advise SEBI on problems relating to mutual fund regulation and development.

4) NHAI enters Guinness World Records for laying 75 km long road
- National Highways Authority of India – NHAI and its contractors have entered Guinness World Records for laying 75 km long continuous Bituminous Concrete Road in record 5 days.
- The work has been completed in a record time of 105 hours and 33 minutes.
- The Amravati to Akola section is part of National Highway-53 and an important East-West corridor.
5) US passes world’s first ‘right to repair’ law for digital electronics
- In a world’s first, the New York state legislature of the US has passed the “right to repair” bill for digital electronics.
- The bill will require digital electronics manufacturers to make parts, tools, information, and software available to consumers and independent repair shops.
- The bill officially known as digital fair repair does not include motor vehicles.
6) Quintillion Media appoints Sanjay Pugalia as director
- Quintillion Business Media Ltd. has appointed Sanjay Pugalia as director to its board.
- Quintillion Media Ltd. operates as a digital journalism and media company.
- The appointment follows the acquisition of a 49% stake by Gautam Adani’s AMG Media Networks in the Quintillion Media Ltd.
- Pugalia is currently the chief executive officer and editor-in-chief of AMG Media.
7) Meghalaya’s first State Women’s Conference held in Shillong
- In Meghalaya, the First State Women’s Conference on the theme, ‘Support and Celebrate’ was held on 8 June 2022 at State Convention Centre, Shillong.
- The conference was inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
- The event was aimed at celebrating women and generating dialogues towards creating a sustainable and enabling environment for women.
8) Funding under Technology Development Fund scheme enhanced to Rs 50 cr
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the enhancement of funding under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme to Rs 50 crore per project from Rs 10 crore.
- The TDF scheme supports the indigenous development of components, products, systems and technologies by MSMEs and start-ups.
- The scheme facilitates up to 90 percent of the total project cost.
9) RBI increases repo rate by 50 basis points to 4.90%
- The Reserve Bank of India has increased the repo rate by 50 basis points to 4.90%.
- The current repo rate is 4.40% after the rates were increased by 40 basis points at an off-cycle meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee.
- The central bank forecasts 6.7% inflation, while the real GDP growth rate is pegged at 7.2%.
- The RBI also revised the inflation projection for FY23 to 6.7% from 5.7%.
10) India, Vietnam sign Joint Vision Statement on defence partnership
- India and Vietnam have signed a Joint Vision Statement on defence partnership towards 2030.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Vietnam’s Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang in Hanoi on 7 June 2022.
- India and Vietnam share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership since 2016 and defence cooperation is a key pillar of this partnership.

11) International Aluminium Institute appoints Satish Pai as new Chairman
- Satish Pai was appointed as the new Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on 6 June 2022.
- Pai is the Managing Director of Hindalco Industries, one of the world’s largest integrated producers of aluminium.
- Pai succeeds Ben Kahrs, Chief Innovation Officer, Alcoa Corporation.
- The IAI is the only body which represents the global primary aluminium industry.
12) Maruti Suzuki installs Asia’s largest 20 MWp Solar Plant at Manesar
- Maruti Suzuki has set up Asia’s largest 20 MWp1 solar power plant at its Manesar facility in a bid to maximises the utilisation of renewable energy.
- It will contribute 28,000 MWH2 annually to the group’s manufacturing unit and which is equivalent to the energy required for the production of more than 67,000 units.
- The company’s combined solar power generation capacity is around 26.3 MWp.
13) World Brain Tumour Day: 8 June
- World Brain Tumour Day is observed every year on 8 June with an aim to create awareness about brain tumours.
- Brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in your brain.
- There are two types of brain tumors — noncancerous (benign), and cancerous (malignant).
- According to the National Health Portal, every day worldwide more than 500 new cases are diagnosed with a brain tumour.
14) ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings: Mithali maintains 7th spot
- Indian batter Mithali Raj continued to hold on to her seventh position in the latest ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings, released on 7 June 2022.
- Smriti Mandhana also remained in the ninth position.
- Jhulan Goswami also continued to be in the fifth position on the bowling list.
- Australia’s Alyssa Healy continued to lead the rankings chart followed by England’s Natalie Sciver.
15) Narwal-Francis win India’s third gold in Para Shooting World Cup
- Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis won the 10m P6 air pistol mixed team event to clinch India’s third gold medal at the ongoing World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Chateauroux, France on 8 June 2022.
- The duo defeated the Chinese pair of Yang Chao and Min Li 17-11 in the title clash.
- Earlier, Avani Lekhara and Sriharsha Devaraddi Ramakrishna clinched gold medals in rifle events.
16) World’s first fishing cat census done in Chilika Lake
- Chilika Lake in Odisha is home to around 176 fishing cats, the recently concluded first fishing cat estimation study has found.
- This is the world’s first population estimation of the fishing cat, conducted outside the protected area network.
- Chilika Development Authority conducted it in collaboration with The Fishing Cat Project.
- The fishing cat is also the state animal of West Bengal.
17) Mithali Raj retires from all forms of international cricket
- Indian batter Mithali Raj has announced retirement from all forms of international cricket.
- Mithali retires as the leading run getter in women’s ODIs.
- She represented India 232 matches, scoring 7805 runs at an average of 50.68.
- The cricketer has a career spanning 23 years during which she smashed seven consecutive 50s in one-day international matches and led India in four World Cups.
18) NHIDCL and IIT, Roorkee sign MoU in the field of highway engineering
- An MoU was signed on 8 June 2022 between National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and IIT, Roorkee for sharing knowledge on innovative ideas and technologies in the field of highway engineering.
- The MoU will play a significant role in realising the aims and objectives of Prime Minister’s GatiShakti, National Master Plan launched on 13th October 2021.
19) Goa CM launches ‘Beach Vigil App’
- Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on 3 June 2022 launched the ‘Beach Vigil App’
- The app has been launched in order to keep vigilance over the splendid beaches of Goa which forms a crucial part of Goa tourism.
