1) Federal Bank Named “Bank of the Year” by The Banker, Financial Times

  • Federal Bankwon “Bank of the Year (India)” from The Banker,  Financial Times highlighting its commitment to customer-centric innovation.
  • The institution’s exemplary Digital Personal Loan, initiating fully online loan applications & fulfillment, helped earn this accolade.
  • Federal Bank introduced ‘Bank on the Go’ – a mobile vehicle that delivers banking services to remote areas.

 

2) Rajiv Anand to replace Analjit Singh as chairman of Max Life Insurance

  • Max Financial Services announced the appointment of Rajiv Anand as the Chairman of Max Life Insurance, effective December 5, 2023, replacing Analjit Singh.
  • Rajiv Anand, currently Deputy Managing Director of Axis Bank, has been a non-executive director of Max Life Insurance.
  • “Max New York Life, was the first private sector insurance company to be incorporated in India on July 11, 2000.

 

3) UNICEF in collaboration with India to launch “Green Rising” initiative

  • UNICEF and India’s Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change are launching the “Green Rising” initiative at COP28 in Dubai to mobilize youth engagement in climate action.
  • Through the “YuWaah” campaign, the initiative aims to promote grassroots environmental action inspired by the Mission Life movement.
  • It aligns with global strategies for addressing climate change impacts.

 

4) Hanukkah festival: 7 December – 15 December 2023

  • Hanukkah, Judaism’s ‘Festival of Lights’,celebrates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BC.
  • The ritual of lighting an additional candle each night on the menorah honors the miracle of a tiny amount of oil lasting eight days.
  • The celebration includes lighting a menorah in a place visible from outside, symbolising the spreading of God’s light.

 

5) Bodhi Day: 8th December, 2023

  • Bodhi Day is celebrated to commemorate the day when Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha,attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, Northern India.
  • It holds religious and spiritual significance for Buddha followers worldwide.
  • The day is observed by practicing kindness, chanting sutras, studying the Dharma, and meditating.

 

6) LIC fourth largest insurer in the world based on reserves: S&P Global

  • Life Insurance Corporation of India ranked fourth globally in terms of life and accident & health reserves, with $503.7 billion, as per S&P Global Market Intelligence.
  • The top three insurers are Germany’s Allianz SE ($750.20 billion), China Life Insurance Company ($616.90 billion), and Japan’s Nippon Life Insurance Company ($536.80 billion).

 

7) Meta, IBM launched ‘AI Alliance’ to promote open-source AI development

  • Meta and IBM have launched the AI Alliance, advocating for an open-science approach to AI that ensures technology access for all.
  • The AI Alliance contends that AI’s future relies on open idea exchange and open-source tech.
  • They intend to work with regulators to create favorable legislation; IBM has a history of backing open-source projects.

 

8) Ministry of Culture launched Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar Project

  • The Government of India has decidedto map and document all villages under Mera Gaon, Meri Dharohar Programme.
  • This National Mission on Cultural Mappingis conducted in coordination with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts under the Ministry of Culture.
  • A web portal on MGMD has also been launched.
  • The MGMD will make information detailing of life, history, and ethos of Indian villages

 

9) Gen. Anil Chauhan inaugurated Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Avionics Expo

  • CDS General Anil Chauhan inauguratedHAL Avionics Expo 2023 in New Delhi, emphasizing the need for avionics to keep pace with evolving global tech trends.
  • CDS Chauhan advocated self-reliance in aviation sector to counter geo-political instabilities, drive the economy, and cut import dependency.
  • The expo aims to facilitate insightful discussions among armed forces, industry, and researchers.

 

10) “Movate” won Nasscom Digital Skills Award 2023

  • Movate– previously known as CSS Corp, a digital technology and CX services provider – has won the inaugural NASSCOM Digital Skills Award
  • As part of its award-winning approach, Movate provides tailored training programmes for its staff, and collaborates with over 150 colleges to help students gain skills needed for opportunities within the IT and ITeS sectors.

 

11) Death Anniversary of CDS Bipin Rawat: 8th December.

  • General Bipin Rawatwas an Indian military officer who was a four-star general, i.e. Chief of Army Staff.
  • He served as the first Chief of Defence Staffof the Indian Armed Forces from January 2020 until his death in a helicopter crash in December 2021.
  • A memorial stone was installed for former CDS Bipin Rawat and 13 others who died in helicopter crash in Coonoor.

 

12) Successful training launch of Short-Range Ballistic Missile ‘Agni-1’

  • Training launch of SRBM ‘Agni-1’was carried out successfully from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
  • Agni-1 is a proven very high precision missile system.
  • The Agni I has a range of 700–1,200 km.
  • Agni-I is a single stage, solid fuel, road and rail mobile, Short-range ballistic missile(SRBM).

13) RBI keeps policy repo rate unchanged at 6.5 percent in latest MPC meet

  • RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee, chaired by governor Shaktikanta Das, has retained the policy repo rate at 6.5% for the fifth consecutive time, with declining inflation being the key reason.
  • The forecast for real GDP growth for 2023-24 is set at 7%: Q3 at 6.5% and Q4 at 6%.
  • Predictions for 2024-25’s first three quarters are 6.7%, 6.5%, and 6.4% respectively.

 

14) Art of Living joined hands with Maharashtra govt. for natural farming

  • The Art of Living Social Projectsand the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Maharashtra signed an MOU to promote traditional, chemical-free farming.
  • It aims to enhance farmer profitability and safeguard soil integrity.
  • The project already trained over 2.2 million farmers and continues to offer support via the ‘Kisan Manch’ platform.
