1) CJI inaugurates NALSA’s Centre for Citizen Services

  • Chief Justice of India, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit inaugurated NALSA’s Centre for Citizen Services at Jaisalmer house in New Delhi on 6 September 2022.
  • It will provide free legal services to the weaker sections of the society.
  • NALSA or National Legal Services Authority of India was formed on 9 November 1995 under the authority of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.

 

2) NITI Aayog and BMZ hold inaugural NITI – BMZ Dialogue

  • NITI Aayog and German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) held the inaugural NITI-BMZ Dialogue of Development Cooperation on 5 September 2022.
  • It was focused on five core areas of cooperation
  • Sustainable Development Goals, climate action, energy transition, emerging technologies and agro-ecology.
  • Both sides highlighted the need to deepen engagement.

 

3) Suresh Raina announces his retirement from all formats of cricket

  • Cricketer Suresh Raina has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket.
  • Suresh Raina represented India in 18 tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20s in an international career spanning 13 years.
  • He scored 5,615 runs in 226 ODIs and 1,604 runs from 78 T20s for India.
  • He was part of the 2011 World Cup winning team.
  • In IPL, he played 205 matches and scored 5,528 runs.

 

4) 68th Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at Punnamada lake in Kerala

  • In Kerala, the 68th Nehru Trophy Boat Race was held at Punnamada lake in Alappuzha district on 4 September 2022.
  • 20 snake boats (chundan valloms) competed for the coveted trophy, which bears the signature of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • Competitions are held in nine categories.
  • 24 shikara paddlers from Dal Lake in Srinagar also participated in the boat race.

 

5) Know About: Drugs Controller General of India

  • DCGI or Drugs Controller General of India is the head of department of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization.
  • It is responsible for approval of licences of specified categories of drugs such as blood and blood products, IV fluids, and vaccines, in India.
  • It came into existence through Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
  • It is headquartered in New Delhi.

8) India, Bangladesh ink first water sharing pact in 25 years

  • India and Bangladesh on 6 September 2022 signed an interim water-sharing agreement for the Kushiyara river.
  • It is the first such pact since the signing of the Ganga water treaty in 1996.
  • This pact will benefit people residing in southern Assam and the Sylhet division of Bangladesh.
  • Bangladesh has a total of 230 rivers, of which 54 flow through India.

 

9) Indian GM Aravindh Chithambaram wins Dubai Open chess tournament

  • Indian Grandmaster Aravindh Chithambaram on 4 September 2022 won the 22nd Dubai Open chess tournament with 7.5 points from nine rounds.
  • Chithambaram defeated R Praggnanandhaa in the ninth and final round.
  • Seven Indians finished in the top 10 at the tournament with R Praggnanandhaa sharing the second spot with five others.

 

10) Carnatic vocalist T.V. Sankaranarayanan passes away

  • Renowned Carnatic vocalist & the Padma Bhushan awardee TV. Sankaranarayanan passed away at the age of 77 in September 2022.
  • He won the Sangita Kalanidhi award of the Music Academy in 2003.
  • In 2003, the Central Govt also conferred on him Padma Bhushan.
  • He was considered the torch-bearer of the Madurai Mani Iyer style of singing and technique.

 

11) Barack Obama wins Emmy award for his narration in Netflix documentary

  • Former US President Barack Obama has won the Emmy Award for his narration in the Netflix documentary “Our Great National Parks”, which features national parks from across the globe.
  • Obama is the 2nd US president after Dwight Eisenhower, to win an Emmy award.
  • Earlier, Obama has also received Grammy Awards for the audiobook readings of his memoirs “The Audacity of Hope” & “A Promised Land.”

 

12) Tripura sets up the India’s first Bio-Village

  • Tripura Govt has successfully converted its Daspara village into a bio-village.
  • With this, Tripura has become the 1st state in the country to set up a modified bio-village.
  • Daspara has been developed based on the bio-village 2.0 conceptualised by the state govt.
  • This concept has been designed to help mitigate the climate change effects.
  • State Govt plans to set up at least 100 bio-villages.

 

13) Tamil Nadu CM launches ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme for girl students

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on 5 September 2022 launched the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ (modern woman) scheme in Chennai.
  • Under this scheme, all girl students, who studied from Classes 6 to 12 in govt schools, will get Rs 1,000 per month to pursue higher education.
  • The scheme aims to benefit six lakh girls every year and Rs 698 crore has been allocated in the budget for its implementation.
