1) Novak Djokovic beats Grigor Dimitrov to win 7th Paris Masters title
- Novak Djokovic secured his seventh Paris Masters title with a resounding 6-4, 6-3 victory over Grigor Dimitrov in the final, edging closer to clinching the year-end number-one ranking for an eighth time.
- The 36-year-old surpassed his own record as the tournament’s oldest champion, notching his 40th Masters 1000 title and extending his winning streak to 18 matches.
2) British film ‘Catching Dust’ to open IFFI 2023
- The 54th International Film Festival of Indiawill be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.
- Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur announced that the British film ‘Catching Dust’will open the event.
- He further added that the American film ‘The Featherweight’will be the closing title, whereas the Turkish film ‘About Dry Grasses’ will be the midfest movie.
3) Uttar Pradesh state govt to conduct Cow Census.
- The figures related to the number of cattle are believed to have changed since the 20th Livestock Census was conducted in 2019 by the Central government. The next census is due in 2024.
- The move comes amid the unending problem of stray cattle in the state.
- UP CM Yogi Adityanath ordered the counting in three categories, to be conducted on priority to be followed by geo-tagging of all cows.
4) India to open new consulate in Seattle, United States of America
- Greater Seattle area houses Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing and other big tech companies plans get boost with new India-U.S. technology partnership through this new consulate.
- The decision was announced in the 2016 India-U.S. joint statement after talks between PM Modi and the then U.S. President Barack Obama.
- 7 years after the agreement, the proposal is going to get implemented.
5) Infant Protection Day: 7th November 2023:
- Theme for 2023: ‘Ensuring Every Child’s Right to Thrive.’
- The day is dedicated to creating awareness among people about the importance of infant care, especially during the early years of growth.
- This day promotes the urge to reduce the child mortality across the world.
- Currently, the infant mortality rate for India in 2023 is 26.619 deaths per 1000 live births, a 3.89% decline from 2022.
6) Former Odisha Assembly speaker Maheswar Mohanty passed away at 67
- Mohanty, who was also a former minister, was 67.
- He was admitted to the hospital on November 1 after suffering a cerebral stroke and died at 3.25 a.m. on 7th November.
- Mohanty was elected to the Odisha Assembly from Puri constituency five times.
- He was the speaker of the assembly from 2004 to 2008.
7) UP’s Ananda Dairy ties up with Brazilian firms for cattle improvement
- In a boost for the dairy sector of Uttar Pradesh, the state’s Ananda Dairyentered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Brazilian companies.
- The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Ambassador Kenneth Nobrega of Brazil to India.
- BH Embryos will increase milk production through the use of advanced technology in the nutrition and breeding of milch animals.
8) Chile becomes 95th member of International Solar Alliance (ISA)
- Chile handed over the Instrument of ISA ratification during the meeting of Ambassador Juan Angulo of Chile with Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs Abhishek Singh.
- ISA was established by PM Modi and President of France in 2015.
- ISA’s objective is to scale up solar energy, reduce the cost of solar power generation through aggregation of demand for solar innovation and investment.
9) Chinese scientists claim anti-ageing breakthrough
- Chinese researchers claimed to have identified a unique group of cells that contributes to the ageing process and might be mitigated with everyday vitamin C supplements.
- The cell subtype surrounds the motor neurons in the spinal cord and is believed to accelerate the ageing process, making it a factor in the shuffling gait common among the elderly.
10) SC collegium recommends names of three HC chief justices as SC Judges
- The Supreme Court collegium headed by CJI D Y Chandrachud recommended it.
- Delhi High Court Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma,Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Augustine George Masih and Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta have been recommended as judges of the Supreme Court of India.
- The Union Law ministry is yet to greenlight the proposal for their final appointment.
11) National Cancer Awareness Day: 7th November 2023:
- This day is celebrated every year since 2014 to create public awareness about early detection, prevention, and treatment of cancer.
- One in 10 Indians would develop cancer in their lifetime and one in 15 would die of it.
- The day is celebrated in India by Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
- No theme has yet been declared by the MoHFW for 2023.
12) Professor CV Raman birth anniversary: 7th November 2023
- CV Raman worked as a student in the field of optics and acoustics.
- He made the ground-breaking discovery called the ‘Raman Effect.’
- He was thefirst Indian to receive the Nobel Prize for his work on the scattering of light.
- Raman became a Fellow of the Royal Society and was knighted in 1929.
- CV Raman became the director ofRaman Research Institute in Bangalore in 1948.
13) Mera Yuva Bharat holds 1st meeting convened by Youth Affairs Ministry
- The board of governors of Mera Yuva Bharat emphasized the Youth Affairs Ministry’s focus on content development for the MY Bharat portal and recognised its pivotal role in engaging and empowering the country’s youth.
- The board also discussed strategies for outreach and engagement to make the platform appealing to young users.
14) Know about: Collegium System for Judicial Appointments:
- In this system of appointment of Judges, the collegium of four senior-most judges of SCwill recommend the names of the candidates to the Central Government.
- Also, the central government will send the names of the proposed candidates for consultation.
- On concurrence, the Judges appointment are greenlighted by Union Govt., then they take the Oath of Allegiance in front of President of India.
