1) Legendary playback singer Vani Jayaram passes away

  • Padma Bhushan awardee legendary playback singer Vani Jairam passed away on February 4, 2023.
  • She was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in Jan 2023.
  • She won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer thrice.
  • She also won state government awards from the states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat.

 

2) 15th Standing Committee of Central Zonal Council meet held in Dehradun

  • The 15th meeting of the standing committee of the Central Zonal Council was organised in Dehradun on 4 Feb 2023.
  • The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Uttarakhand Chief Secretary S.S. Sandhu.
  • The discussion was held on providing banking facilities within a radius of five kilometres in remote villages and emphasis was also laid on increasing mobile connectivity through Bharat Net.

 

3) Asia’s largest Helicopter factory opened in Tumakuru, Karnataka

  • Prime Minister Modi inaugurated Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) helicopter factory at Tumakuru on 6 Feb’23
  • This helicopter factory is Asia’s largest helicopter manufacturing facility.
  • It will initially produce Light Utility Helicopters.
  • Factory will be expanded to manufacture Light Combat Helicopter and Indian Multirole Helicopter as well as for repair and overhaul of them in future.

6) Sant Ravidas Birth Anniversary: 5 February

  • It is celebrated on Magh Purnima.
  • He was a 14th-century saint and reformer of the Bhakti movement in North India.
  • It is believed that he was born in Varanasi in a cobbler’s family.
  • He gained prominence due to his belief in one. God and his unbiased religious poems.
  • He dedicated his whole life to the abolition of the caste system and openly despised the notion of a Brahminical society.

 

7) Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM)

  • EAC-PM is an independent body constituted to give advice on economic and related issues to the Government of India, specifically to the Prime Minister.
  • It could take up issues either suo-motu or on reference from the Prime Minister or anyone else.
  • The council serves to highlight key economic issues to the government of India from a neutral viewpoint.
  • NITI Aayog serves as its Nodal Agency

 

8) Lata Mangeshkar’s first death anniversary: 6 February 2023

  • She passed away on 6 Feb 2022.
  • She was also known as Swarkokila and the Nightingale of India.
  • She was the first musician from India to perform with the Wren Orchestra at London’s renowned Royal Albert Hall in 1974.
  • She won National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1974, Padma Vibhushan in 1989, and Bharat Ratna in 2001 for her remarkable contributions to the music industry.

 

9) Know About: Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO)

  • IFFCO is a multi-state cooperative society.
  • It is wholly owned by Cooperative Societies of India.
  • It is engaged in the business of manufacturing and marketing of fertilizers.
  • Headquarters: New Delhi
  • Started in 1967 with 57 member cooperatives, it is today the biggest co-op in the world by turnover on GDP per capita.
  • It is also India’s largest fertilizer manufacturer.

 

10) Railways introduces Garvi Gujarat tour under Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat

  • Indian Railways introduces Garvi Gujarat tour under Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Scheme to showcase heritage of Gujarat.
  • This “Garvi Gujarat” tour will depart on 28 Feb 2023 from Delhi Safdarjung Station.
  • It will visit prominent pilgrimage and heritage sites of Gujarat including the Statue of Unity, Champaner, Somnath, Dwarka, Nageshwar, Beyt Dwarka, Ahmedabad, Modhera and Patan.
