1) Over 1.36 crore school students participate in Veer Gatha Project 3.0

  • More than 1.36 crore school students from 36 states and UTS participated enthusiastically in the 3rd edition of the Veer Catha Project.
  • The students sent poems, paintings, essays, videos, etc. to honour the acts of bravery and sacrifice of the officers/personnel of the Armed Forces.
  • Two editions of the Veer Gatha Project have been conducted in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

 

2) CM Shri Conrad K Sangma flags off CRPF Women Bike Expedition

  • Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma flags off CRPF Women Bike Expedition ‘Yashaswini’ from Shillong.
  • The CRPF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, is organising this bike rally to celebrate Nari Shakti in the country.
  • The CM also thanked and congratulated the PM and the government for passing the historic Women Reservation Bill.

 

3) PM announces setting up of National Turmeric Board

  • PM Modi announced the setting up of a National Turmeric Board, fulfilling a long-pending demand from the stakeholders in the sector.
  • National Turmeric Board will help farmers in different areas ranging from value-addition in the supply chain to infrastructure-related works.
  • India produces nearly 1.1 million tonnes of turmeric, making up 80 per cent of the global output.

 

4) 06 October: World Cerebral Palsy Day

  • The day sheds light on the need for increased awareness, understanding and support for those with cerebral palsy.
  • Children and adults affected by cerebral palsy often face challenges that hinder their full participation in society
  • The theme for World Cerebral Palsy Day in 2023 is “Together Stronger.”
  • This theme highlights the importance of unity, collaboration, and mutual support.

 

5) India-UAE ink deal for UAE’s RuPay-based payment card scheme

  • Piyush Goyal co-chaired the 11th meeting of the India-UAE High-level Task Force on Investments with the MD of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan
  • The leaders also signed a strategic partnership agreement between National Payments Corporation of India and Al Etihad Payments
  • The two leaders reviewed the existing bilateral investments by companies from both countries

 

6) Sagar Parikrama, Phase-IX to be launched in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

  • Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Parshottam Rupala will launch Sagar Parikrama Phase-IX at Thondi, Ramnad District of Tamil Nadu
  • Both Union Ministers and other dignitaries will visit and grace the events with their presence in eight coastal districts of Tamil Nadu
  • They also distribute Certificates/sanctions relating to the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana

 

7) Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Inaugurates IREDA Pavilion

  • Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof inaugurated Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd pavilion, at the AtoZero ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  • Chairman & MD of IREDA, Shri Pradip Kumar Das, accompanied by senior officials, also graced the inauguration ceremony.
  • He expressed his gratitude for the Deputy PM’s support and highlighted IREDA’s role.

 

8) 7th India-EU Cyber Dialogue held in Brussels for policy exchange

  • The Seventh India-EU Cyber Dialogue was held in Brussels. In the context of the Strategic Partnership between India and the EU.
  • The two sides expressed appreciation for the Cyber Dialogue mechanism as it provides a platform to discuss a wide range of issues related to cyberspace.
  • Both sides exchanged views on cyber policies, strategies, and areas of mutual interest.

 

9) Prof. Dr Joyeeta Gupta receives Spinoza Prize for climate change

  • Indian-origin professor Dr Joyeeta Gupta has received the Spinoza Prize, the highest distinction in Dutch science for her work in climate change
  • The prize was presented to her by the Netherlands’ Minister for Education, Science, and Culture, Robert Dijkgraaf
  • She is a Dutch environmental scientist & professor of Environment and Development in the Global South at the University of Amsterdam.

 

10) RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%

  • RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced the bi-monthly monetary policy for the financial year 2023-24.
  • The central bank maintained the status quo and kept the repo rate steady at 6.5%.
  • This is the fourth time RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged
  • Das’ announcement came after the RBI’s six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) held a meeting.

 

11) Norwegian author Jon Fosse wins Nobel Prize in Literature

  • Norwegian author and dramatist Jon Fosse has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 2023
  • Fosse has been awarded the Nobel Prize “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable”.
  • The Academy honoured Fosse’s body of work written in Norwegian Nynorsk which includes several plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children’s books and translations.

 

12) Bangladesh receives Russian uranium for Rooppur Nuclear power Plant

  • Bangladesh officially received the first batch of uranium from Russia for its Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
  • Bangladesh will become the 33rd nuclear power-producing country in the world once Rooppur plant commissioned.
  • Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin virtually joined the ceremony from Ganabhaban and Kremlin respectively.

 

13) Citizens can now become drone pilots with any government-issued ID

  • The Ministry of Civil Aviation has said that citizens can now become drone pilots with any government-issued identity and address proof.
  • The Ministry has notified the new Drone (Amendment) Rules 2023 for drone pilots.
  • The government-issued proof of identity and a government-issued proof of address like Voter ID or ration Card can now be accepted to apply for a Remote Pilot Certificate.
