1) Mirabai Chanu wins BBC Indian Sportswoman of The Year for 2022
- Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the 2022 BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year award on 5 March 2023.
- She becomes the first athlete to win the award twice in a row after winning for the year 2021.
- BBC Para Sportswoman of the Year went to Bhavina Patel while Pritam Siwach was conferred with the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award.
- Boxer Nitu Ghanghas was chosen as the BBC Emerging Player of the Year.
2) Karnataka beat Meghalaya to win Santosh Trophy after 54 years
- Karnataka defeated Meghalaya 3-2 in the final of the 76th National football championship also known as “the Hero Santosh Trophy” at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh on 4 March 2023.
- This is the first trophy for Karnataka since 1968-69.
- The last time they won the trophy as the princely state of Mysore.
- This is the fourth time that the state won this trophy.
3) Two-day Millet Mahotsav organised at Agra, Uttar Pradesh
- A two-day Millet Mahotsav was organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, from 3-4 March, 2023.
- The event was inaugurated by Minister of State for Law & Justice, Prof. SP Singh Baghel.
- Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of food grains in India and accounted for about 18.89% share in the country’s total food grain output in 2020-21.
4) Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya unveils a book, ‘India’s Vaccine Growth Story’
- Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya released the book ‘India’s Vaccine Growth Story – From Cowpox to Vaccine Maitri.’
- The book is authored by Sajjan Singh Yadav, Additional Secretary, Govt of India.
- The book elaborates on India’s impressive achievement in developing, producing, and distributing COVID-19 vaccines.
5) The first Labour 20 meeting to be held in Amritsar on 19-20 March
- The 1st Labour 20 (L20) meeting is scheduled to be held in Amritsar, Punjab, from 19th to 20th March 2023.
- It comprises leaders and representatives of trade union centers of G20 countries who provide analyses and policy recommendations aimed at addressing labor-related issues.
- Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) is the lead national trade union center for organizing the L20 inception meeting.
6) Liquid Nano Urea (LNU)
- Nano urea is a liquid form of nitrogen providing plant nutrient as a conventional alternative to urea.
- It has been developed in place of conventional urea and has the potential to reduce the requirement of conventional urea by at least 50 percent.
- The effectiveness of Nano Urea Liquid is more than 80%.
- Its use has been found to increase the yield by about 8%.
7) National Commission for Minorities rescue all Indians stuck in Libya
- The Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Iqbal Singh Lalpura, on 5 March 2023, annonced that all Indians stranded in Libya have been evacuated.
- It was done by the NCM with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassy in Tunisia.
- The country has been facing unrest ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
