- In 1596, Sikh Guru Har Govindji, the sixth Sikh guru, was born.

3) RBI imposes monetary penalty on Sawantwadi Urban Co-operative Bank
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of 3 lakh on Sawantwadi Urban Co-operative Bank for contravention of directions contained in the Supervisory Action Framework (SAF).
- The cooperative bank is based in a taluka called Sawantwadi in Maharashtra.
- The bank had sanctioned fresh loans and advances other than the permitted category despite SAF restrictions.
4) Bharat Petroleum starts pilot test of ED7 blend fuel
- BPCL has initiated a pilot program in collaboration with Ashok Leyland and Hero Mototcorp to test the effectiveness of the ED7 fuel blend, which combines diesel with 7% ethanol.
- The ED7 fuel blend, developed by BPCL-R&D, consists of 93% diesel and 7% ethanol.
- The ED7 fuel blend showcases a reduction in pollution levels, including particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
5) Suriname confers highest civilian award to President Droupadi Murmu
- Suriname conferred its highest civilian honor, the Grand Order of the Chain of Yellow Star, to President Droupadi Murmu
- She is the 1st Indian to receive the award.
- She received the award from Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi during her state visit to Suriname.
- The visit coincides with Suriname’s commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in the country.
6) Colonel Shuchita becomes 1st woman to command Communication Zone
- Colonel Shuchita Shekhar has become the first woman officer to command a Communication Zone Mechanical Transport Battalion in the Indian Army Service Corps.
- She is responsible for the maintenance of the Supply Chain of the fully operational Northern Command.
- This is a significant milestone in the history of the Indian Army and a great step towards gender equality.
7) AICTE to launch ‘One Student One Tree Campaign 2023’
- Union MOS Rajkumar Ranjan Singh has announced that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will launch the “One Student One Tree Campaign 2023”.
- He also released guidelines and a curriculum framework for environmental education at the undergraduate level.
- The guidelines include areas such as climate change, pollution, waste management, and sustainable development.
8) Himachal signs MoU with Oil India Ltd for Green Hydrogen
- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu signed an agreement with Oil India Limited for promoting green hydrogen production.
- The state government has banned single-use plastic since 2009 and is looking for suitable alternatives.
- The government is focused on integrating technology with governance and is committed to environmental protection.
9) NHAI unveils 1st sustainability report on environmental responsibility
- National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has published its first Sustainability Report for FY 2021-22.
- The report highlights NHAI’s governance structure and initiatives related to the environment and social responsibility.
- There was a reduction of 9.7% in greenhouse gas emissions from energy consumption, operations, transport, and travel in FY 2020-21.
10) Sarbananda Sonowal flags off India’s 1st International Cruise Vessel
- The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off India’s first international cruise vessel – MV Empress from Chennai to Sri Lanka.
- The cruise service will sail to three Sri Lankan ports; viz. Hanbantota, Trincomalee, and Kankesanturei.
- The Union Minister and port officials planted 25z00 tree saplings at the port on the occasion of Environment Day.
11) Sainyam gives India golden start at ISSF Junior Shooting World Cup
- Chandigarh youngster Sainyam ensured India had a golden start to the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Junior in Suhl, Germany.
- Sainyam shot 238 in the final to leave Korean Kim Minseo behind in second place
- India has entered a 56-strong squad in the competition which has attracted 511 athletes from 46 countries

- In 2017, “GSLV Mark-3D-1” the heaviest rocket was successfully launched.
14) World Environment Day: 5 June
- World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
- World Environment Day was first marked on June 5, 1973, during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.
- The theme of World Environment Day 2023 is “BeatPlasticPollution,” highlighting people’s actions toward plastic pollution reduction.
15) Gufi Paintal, Shakuni Mama of BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, passes away
- Actor Gufi Paintal, best known for playing the role of Shakuni Mama in BR Chopra’s TV show Mahabharat (1980), passed away in Mumbai due to age-related health issues.
- He became a household name with the portrayal of Shakuni Mama in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat.
- Gufi also directed a few TV shows and a movie titled Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
16) Veteran Actress Sulochana Didi passes away
- Veteran Hindi and Marathi film actress Sulochana Latkar passed away on 4 June 2023.
- Sulochana started her career with Bhalji Pendharkar’s Sasurrvas (1946).
- She is remembered for playing Jijabai, the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maratha Tituka Melvava (1964).
- In 1999, she received the prestigious Padma Shri, followed by the Maharashtra Bhushan Award in 2009.
17) Renowned theater actor and director Aamir Raza Hussain passes away
- Noted theatre actor and director Aamir Raza Husain has passed away at the age of 66.
- His stage plays include ‘The Fifty-Day War’ (2000) and ‘The Legend of Ram’.
- Husain was honored with the Padma Shri in 2001 by the Indian government for his contribution to theatre.
- He also acted in super hit movies Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’.
18) Third G20 Health Working Group meeting begins in Hyderabad
- The third meeting of the G20 Health Working Group (HWG) is being held from June 4 to 6.
- The meeting is aimed at discussing and finding solutions to health challenges faced by G20 countries.
- Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy inaugurated the event and affirmed the government’s commitment to universal healthcare for all by 2030.
19) Govt imposes stock limits on tur, urad dal till October 31
- The government on 4 May 2023, imposed stock limits on tur and urad dals held by wholesalers, retailers, importers and millers till October 31 to prevent hoarding and check price rise.
- According to the order, a stock limit of 200 tonnes each has been imposed on tur and urad for wholesalers, 5 tonnes each for retailers and retail outlets, and 200 tonnes at the depot for big chain retailers.
20) India’s first zero-carbon village being developed in Bhiwandi
- Union Minister of State Kapil Patil announced that India’s first carbon-neutral village is being developed in Bhiwandi Taluka of Thane district, Maharashtra.
- As many as 121 tribal villages are being developed as model villages by the union govt.
- Earlier, Palli village in Jammu had become the first carbon-neutral panchayat in the country.
21) Manisha wins Gold, Reetika clinches Silver at Bishkek Ranking Series
- Manisha won India’s first gold medal in the women’s 65 kg category at the Ranking Series in Kyrgyzstan.
- Reetika won silver in the women’s 72kg event and Sarita Mor won bronze in the women’s 59kg.
- Manjeet won bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling on 4 May 2023.
- Sarita Mor won bronze after outlasting Kazakhstan’s Diana Kayumova 11-0 due to technical superiority.
