1) National Teachers’ Day: 5 September 2023

  • National Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated on September 5th every year.
  • It is a day to honour and celebrate the contributions of teachers to society.
  • The day is also observed as a tribute to the memory of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.
  • The theme for National Teacher’s Day 2023 is ‘Teachers at the heart of education recovery’.

 

2) Former international umpire Piloo Reporter passes away • Piloo Reporter, the former international umpire, passed away at the age of 84.

  • He officiated in 14 Tests and 22 ODIs during his career.
  • In 1986, he was invited by former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan to officiate with another Indian V K Ramaswamy in the Pakistan versus West Indies series.
  • This made them the first pair of neutral umpires in the world since 1912.

 

3) Germany to provide 191 mn euros for development of Bangladesh

  • Germany will provide Bangladesh with 191 million euros for sustainable development and women empowerment projects.
  • The projects are focused on green and just energy transition, sustainable urban development, sustainable supply chains, biodiversity, and support for host and displaced communities in Cox’s Bazar.
  • Over 90 per cent of Bangladeshi exports to Germany are textiles.

 

4) Himachal Pradesh plans policy to develop electric charging stations

  • Himachal Pradesh Govt plans to introduce a policy to promote the development of electric charging stations for EVS in the state.
  • The policy aims to address accessibility, and employment opportunities in the e-mobility sector.
  • Private operators will receive a 50% subsidy for setting up e-charging stations.
  • The govt is developing six green corridors encompassing National and State Highways.

 

5) Bangladesh witness highest dengue death rate in the world

  • Bangladesh has recorded 634 deaths from dengue fever so far this year.
  • On September 2, there were 21dengue-related deaths in a single day.
  • Brazil ranks first globally in dengue cases, but Bangladesh has a higher death rate.
  • The total number of dengue patients in Bangladesh has risen to 130,302.
  • The government has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about dengue.

 

6) Himachal CM Sukhu launches SABAL Yojna to empower divyang children

  • The Mukhya Mantri SABAL Scheme was launched by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh to provide special care to specially-abled children.
  • The Sabal Yojana initiative focuses on providing essential facilities and opportunities for specially-abled children in the state.
  • The state government has made a provision of two per cent reservation in government jobs for specially-abled individuals.

 

7) Thailand’s Nattaya becomes 1st Associate player to take 100 wickets

  • Nattaya Boochatham became the first Associate player to dismiss 100 T201 wickets in group-stage matches in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia region qualifiers.
  • Boochatham plays for the Thailand women’s national cricket team and has played a total of 73 WT201 matches.
  • Boochatham achieved the milestone in a match against Kuwait Women on the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup regional qualifiers.

 

8) MOS Jitendra Singh inaugurates S20 Conference in Uttar Pradesh

  • Minister of State Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Science-2- (S20) Conference under the aegis of G20 at Amity University’s Noida campus in Uttar Pradesh.
  • It covers the topics – Clean Energy for Greener Future, Universal Holistic Health, Science for Society & Culture, and Role of Media in Science and Culture.
  • The conference’s theme is disruptive science, which means transformative science.

 

9) IIT Jodhpur scientists develop ‘CODE’ device for good air quality

  • Researchers at IIT Jodhpur developed a device for good indoor air quality based on Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment (CODE) technology.
  • The CODE technology deactivates harmful pathogens and provides quality indoor air by treating the air in the occupied space.
  • The CODE device consumes less power, deactivates bacteria, moulds and viruses, captures dust and pollen, and also removes odours.

 

10) SBI introduces UPI interoperability in Digital Rupee

  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the implementation of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) interoperability with the Digital Rupee, also called as Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
  • It will empower CBDC users to easily scan any merchant UPI QR code for swift and secure transactions.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched the first pilot of Digital Rupee in Dec 2022.

 

11) Dr Navneet Agrawal won National Diabetologist of the Year Award

  • Dr Navneet Agrawal, the Chief Clinical Officer of BeatO, was awarded the ‘Diabetologist of the Year (National Winner)-2023’ for his exceptional medical service and dedication to improving the lives of people with diabetes.
  • He launched a Diabetes Care Program to reduce complications for people with diabetes.
  • Dr Agrawal has treated more than one lakh patients from across the country

 

12) Guwahati International Airport receives ISO-10002:2018 certification

  • The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati has received the ISO 10002:2018 certification.
  • It is a globally respected certification in the realm of Quality Management Systems.
  • This certification reflects the airport’s commitment to maintaining a dependable quality management system and adhering to industry standards and best practices.

 

13) Kathmandu-Kalinga Literary Festival ends in Lalitpur, Nepal

  • The Kathmandu-Kalinga Literary Festival has recently concluded in Lalitpur, Nepal.
  • The festival was co-organized by Yashaswi Academy, Nepal and Kalinga Literary Festival of India.
  • Prof Madhav Prasad Pokharel, and Manisha Koirala were awarded the ‘Yashaswi Sahitya Samman’.
  • Bibek Ojha won the ‘Yashaswi Book Prize’ for fiction for his book ‘Aithan’.

 

14) IREDA signs a pact with IIFCL to finance renewable energy projects

  • Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) has signed an MOU with India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL) to finance renewable energy projects.
  • The MoU will empower IREDA and IIFCL to engage in Renewable Energy projects, including Small Hydro projects.
  • IIFCL is a public sector company set up in 2006 to provide long-term financial assistance to infrastructure projects.

 

15) Maj Gen Ignatius Delos Flora takes charge as Additional DG, MNS

  • Maj Gen Ignatius Delos Flora has taken charge as the Additional Director General of Military Nursing Service (MNS) on 01 Sep 2023.
  • She was commissioned into the MNS in the year 1985 and completed her Midwifery training at Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore in 1986.
  • During her career of 38 years, She has held various key appointments in the Armed Forces Medical Services hospitals.

 

16) Typhoon Haikui causes destruction in coastal Taitung, Taiwan

  • Typhoon Haikui caused over 40 injuries in Taiwan after making landfall on the east coast.
  • Thousands of people were forced to evacuate due to the typhoon.
  • The storm brought winds of up to 200km per hour.
  • Clean-up crews are working to restore services after 160,000 homes lost power.
  • Taiwan had not experienced a direct hit from a typhoon in four years.
