1) Know About: Flag Code Of India
- Pingali Venkayya was the designer of the Indian National Tricolour.
- The Indian flag was adopted in its present form during a meeting of the Constituent Assembly held on 22nd July, 1947.
- The smallest standard size of the Indian National Flag as per the flag code of India, 2002 is 150 mm X 100 mm.
- The ratio of length to width(height) of the flag shall be 3:2.
2) 3-day Monetary Policy Committee Meeting begins in Mumbai
- The three-day Monetary Policy Committee Meeting began on 3 August 2022 in Mumbai in the presence of RBI Governor Shaktikant Das and other MPC members.
- The MPC will announce its bi-monthly monetary policy on 5 Aug.
- The MPC will discuss the policy for financial year 2022-23.
- After keeping the policy rates unchanged for almost 2 years the apex bank has continued the rate hike cycle for 2022.
3) India achieves milestone with over 75,000 start-ups recognised so far
- Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized more than 75,000 startups which is a milestone coinciding with 75th year of independence.
- Out of the total recognized startups, around 12% cater to IT services, 9% to Healthcare and Life Sciences, 7% to education, 5% to professional and commercial services and 5% to agriculture.
4) SVC Bank partners with SIDBI for empowering MSMEs
- SVC Co-operative Bank (SVC Bank) and Small Industries Development Bank in India (SIDBI) have announced a partnership through an agreement.
- As per the agreement, SIDBI will extend Refinance facility to SVC Bank to facilitate an improved flow of credit to MSMEs.
- SIDBI is the Principal Financial Institution for Promotion, Financing and Development of the MSME sector.
5) Indian Oil signs MoU with National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)
- Indian Oil has signed an MoU with National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for transcontinental relocation of ‘Cheetah’ in its historical range in India.
- Under this project, a source population of 8-10 Cheetahs will be flown in from Namibia and South Africa and will be introduced at Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh.
- It is a national project involving NTCA and the govt of MP.
6) EAM S Jaishankar reaches Cambodia for India-ASEAN Ministerial meeting
- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is on a visit to Cambodia from August 3-4, 2022.
- He will attend the ASEAN-India ministerial meeting in Phnom Penh during which he will take stock of the ASEAN-India partnership.
- The year 2022 is being celebrated as the ASEAN-India Friendship Year as announced by ASEAN and Indian leaders at the 18th ASEAN-India Summit in October 2021.
7) Suresh N Patel sworn in as Central Vigilance Commissioner
- Vigilance Commissioner Suresh N Patel has been appointed as the Central Vigilance Commissioner, a year after the post fell vacant.
- Patel has been working as the acting Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) since June 2022.
- Former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Kothari had completed his term as the CVC on June 24, 2021.
8) Union government rolls back Data Protection Bill
- Union government on Wednesday withdrew the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019.
- The privacy bill was designed to protect Indian citizens and establish a data protection authority.
- The government said it would soon be replaced by “a comprehensive legal framework,” that will be “designed to address all of the contemporary and future challenges of the digital ecosystem”!
9) NIESBUD joins hands with Hindustan Unilever Limited
- National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has signed an MoU.
- It has been signed for developing entrepreneurial skills among the youth and identifying other aspects for mutual collaboration.
- Under the partnership, both the entities will collaborate to organise training programmes, develop course curriculum, etc.
10) Amazon ties up with Indian Railways to boost delivery of packages
- Amazon India has engaged with Indian Railways to boost its delivery services in the country.
- Through this partnership, Amazon will be able to transport packages on more than 110 inter-city routes, ensuring one to two-day delivery for its customer.
- It became the first online delivery company to work with the Indian Railways to build an express transportation product via rail in 2019.
11) Centre launches State University Research Excellence scheme
- The government has launched State University Research Excellence scheme.
- It has been launched to augment the research capabilities in a structured way to create a robust research and development ecosystem in state and private universities and colleges.
- It will provide much-needed research opportunities to the faculties of state universities, 45 percent of which are located in rural areas.
12) LIC enters Fortune 500 list; RIL jumps 51 places
- LIC entered the Fortune Global 500 list for the first time.
- Meanwhile, Reliance Industries which is the largest company in terms of market capitalization. in India, jumped 51 places.
- However, LIC was at the top of the list from India.
- A total of nine Indian companies have entered the list, out of which, five of them were state-owned and four were private sector firms.
13) Ranjit Rath takes over as CMD of Oil India
- Ranjit Rath has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Oil India Ltd (OIL).
- Rath, prior to his appointment as the Oil India CMD, Rath was the CMD Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Ltd.
- He has also held the positions of the CEO of Khanij Bidesh India Limited, Managing Director of Bharat Gold Mines Ltd.
- He replaces Sushil Chandra Mishra who retired on 30 June, 2022.
14) Parliament passes National Anti-Doping Bill 2021
- Parliament has passed the National Anti-Doping Bill 2021.
- The Bill prohibits athletes, athlete support personnel and other persons from engaging in doping.
- Under the new legislation, violation of anti-doping rules may result in disqualification of results including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes, ineligibility to participate in a competition or event for a prescribed period, etc.
15) Lovepreet Singh wins bronze medal in Commonwealth Games
- Lovepreet Singh has bagged a bronze medal at Commonwealth Games in men’s 109kg weightlifting while setting a national record in the clean and jerk round.
- He lifted a personal best of 355 kg, including a new national record of 192 kg in clean and jerk, to finish third on the podium.
- Nyabeyeu of Cameroon claimed the gold medal while Jack Opeloge of Samoa bagged the silver.
