1) Narayan Rane proposed Maharashtra Global Med Tech Zone (MGMTZ)

  • Shri Narayan Rane holds discussions on India Health Dialogue Initiative and proposed Maharashtra Global Med Tech Zone (MGMTZ).
  • The Upcoming IHD’s Summit which will be held in November for promoting investment opportunities, global collaborations, innovation and entrepreneurship in Indian health care manufacturing and services sector to make India Atam Nirbhar in Health sector.

 

2) MOIL Limited records best-ever performance

  • The country’s leading manganese ore producer MOIL Limited has recorded its best-ever performance last month since its inception.
  • During last month, the company produced 1.20 lakh tonnes of manganese ore, showcasing a growth of 71 per cent as compared to the same period in the previous year.
  • This is the highest-ever July production of the company.

 

3) BDL hands over first Radio Frequency Seeker of Akash to DRDO

  • The Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has handed over the first Radio Frequency (RF) Seeker of Akash – the Next Generation Weapon System produced at its newly commissioned state-of-the-art Seeker Facility Centre (SFC) to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
  • It is used in Surface-to-Air Missiles and Air-to-Air Missiles for target tracking in the terminal phase.

 

4) Arunachal Dy CM inaugurates state’s first Gas Insulated Substation

  • Arunachal Pradesh has taken a significant step towards energy sustainability and development by launching its first 133/32 KV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS).
  • Upon completion of these ambitious projects, the state government anticipates an annual revenue of around Rs 5000 Crore.

 

5) Indiaspora to host G20 Forum in New Delhi

  • Indiaspora, a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to uniting the Indian diaspora for a stronger, more interconnected global community, announced that it will host a G20 Forum in New Delhi to brainstorm the Indian diaspora’s role in the country’s march towards 2047.
  • The three-day Indiaspora G20 Forum will convene influential voices from around the world to deliberate on critical issues

 

6) China plans to limit smartphone usage by children to two hours

  • China’s cyberspace watchdog has put forward plans to limit the usage of smartphones by children to no more than two hours a day and to require all tech companies to introduce a “minor mode” to enable restrictions.
  • A draft “Guidelines for the Construction of Minor Mode of the Mobile Internet” is open for public comments until September 2.

 

7) Noted Marathi poet Namdeo Dhondo Mahanor, 81, dies

  • Noted Marathi poet and lyricist Namdeo Dhondo Mahanor, popularly known as Na Dho Mahanor, died at a hospital in Maharashtra’s Pune.
  • He was 81.
  • Mahanor was best known for his poems and lyrics for Marathi movies.
  • Born in 1942, Namdeo Dhondo Mahanor was awarded Padma Shri in 1991.
  • He had also been a member of the state legislative council.

 

8) Manoj Tiwary announces retirement from all forms of cricket

  • Former India batsman Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
  • Tiwary, who played 12 ODIs and three T20Is between 2008 and 2015, ventured into politics even while he remained an active cricketer, and became a minister of state for sports and youth affairs in West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjees state cabinet.
  • He made his debut under Deep Dasgupta in 2004.

 

9) India to have its first polar research vessel in five years

  • India aims to have its first Polar Research Vessel PRV in the next five years in order to sustain its bases in Antarctica, said by Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju.
  • He noted that in 2014, the Cabinet had approved Rs 1,051 crore to acquire the vessel.
  • India currently has three research base stations in the polar region.

 

10) Bill to provide fixed 50-year production lease for offshore minerals

  • A Bill to provide a fixed 50-year production lease for offshore minerals was passed by the Rajya Sabha.
  • The Bill to amend the Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act, 2002 was passed by the Lok Sabha.
  • The Bill seeks to provide a fixed 50-year production lease for offshore minerals.

 

11) Diane Kruger to receive Golden Eye award at Zurich Film Festival

  • German star Diane Kruger will be felicitated with the Golden Eye award at the Zurich Film Festival.
  • The 2023 edition of the Zurich Film Festival will be held from September 28 to October 8.
  • The award has previously been bestowed on actors Eddie Redmayne, Kristen Stewart, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Malkovich, Helen Hunt and Olivia Colman.

 

12) Lucknow boy is USA’s U-19 team vice-captain for World Cup qualifier

  • Sixteen-year-old Utkarsh Srivastava, who has roots in Lucknow’s Hussainganj, has been named vice-captain of the USA team for the ICC Under-19 Men’s World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to be played from August 11 in Canada.
  • Young Utkarsh Srivastava’s parents moved to the USA in 2016 and he is being trained by former West Indies’ great Alvin Kallicharran.

 

13) 3 Indian-origin Singaporeans now in Singapore parliament

  • 3 Indian-origin Singaporeans have been made members of parliament in Singapore.
  • Raj Joshua Thomas, an Indian-origin lawyer, is ready to serve for second term in Singapore parliament.
  • Two other Indian origin NMPs are Parekh Nimil Rajnikant, CEO of acquisition firm Pegasus Asia and Chandradas Usha Ranee, an art historian and co-founder of Plural Art magazine.

 

14) 31.14 lakhs handicraft artisans registered under PEHCHAN Scheme

  • As on 30.06.2023, 31.14 lakhs handicraft artisans have been registered under PEHCHAN scheme across the country to benefit of this programme.
  • PEHCHAN scheme was launched in 2016 to provide new identity to deserving handicraft artisans and help them avail benefits of various schemes implemented by the Ministry of Textiles.

 

15) World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan to empower farmers

  • The ‘World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in the Cooperative Sector’ will be rolled out as a Pilot Project to revolutionise agricultural infrastructure and empower farmers.
  • Leveraging the potential of over 1,00,000 PACS, the plan seeks to create decentralised storage capacity and essential infrastructure to enhance the economic viability of PACS and boost India’s agricultural sector.

 

16) India and G20 nations form Global Biofuels Alliance

  • India held the 4th and last Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting in Goa.
  • The two-day meeting comprised of 115 delegates representing G20 member countries and 9 invitee countries.
  • On the sideline of the Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting a standalone event on Consultations and Recommendations for the Global Biofuels Alliance was organized in the Union Territory.

 

17) NHAI Launches ‘Rajmargyatra’

  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) takes a significant stride towards improving the highway user experience with the launch of ‘Rajmargyatra,’ a citizen-centric unified mobile application.
  • This user-friendly app empowering travelers with comprehensive information on Indian National Highways while also offering an efficient complaint redressal system.
