1) Blue Economy 2.0

  • The overarching goal of the initiative is to harness the potential of oceans, seas, and coastal areas for sustainable development.
  • It aims to boost the country’s aquaculture.
  • The initiative covers crucial aspects like restoration and adaptation measures, and coastal aquaculture and mariculture with an integrated and multi-sectoral approach.

 

2) World Cancer Day 2024: 4th January

  • World Cancer Day is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control.
  • The day was born on the 4 February 2000 at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris.
  • The Theme of the World Cancer Day 2024 is “Close the care gap: Everyone deserves access to cancer care”.
  • The day is celebrated to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention and treatment.

 

3) International Day of Human Fraternity 2024: 4th February

  • International Day of Human Fraternity is observed on February 4 to promote unity and harmony among people.
  • It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2020.
  • The day marks the signing of the Human Fraternity document in 2019, which emphasized peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
  • The purpose is to encourage cooperation among people of different backgrounds and beliefs.

 

4) Know about: Sirpur Lake

  • Sirpur Lake is located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, and covers an area of 800 acres.
  • It was created by the Holkars of Indore State in the early 20th century.
  • The lake was restored in the 1980s and 1990s by Bhalu Mondhe and Abhilash Khandekar.
  • It was declared a Ramsar site in July 2022, recognizing its importance as a habitat for migratory birds.

 

5) PM addressed Pali Saansad Khel Mahakumbh

6) LK Advani to be honoured with Bharat Ratna

  • Veteran leader, Shri Lal Krishna Advani will be conferred with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the nation.
  • Advani served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 and is a co-founder of Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • He is also a member of the RSS.
  • He was the longest-serving Minister of Home Affairs from 1998 to 2004.
  • He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2025.

 

7) Stalwart of Hindi and Odia cinema Shri Sadhu Meher passed away

  • Adhu Meher was an Indian actor, director, and producer who worked in both Odia and Hindi films.
  • He gained prominence in Parallel Cinema in the mid-1980s and won a National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in the film Ankur.
  • Meher was conferred with the Padma Sri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor, in 2017.
  • He passed away on 2 February 2024 at the age of 84.
