DAILY DOSE 3RD AUG CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) Competition (Amendment) Bill: What are the changes being proposed?
- Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022 is going to be presented in the ongoing session of Parliament.
- The Bill proposes individual members of the six-member board to decide on cases.
- Businesses accused of anti-competitive practices should be allowed to settle cases by negotiating with the CCI.
- An expansion of the prohibited anti-competitive agreements to cover new-age marketing arrangements.
2) Kerala launches eggs and milk scheme for anganwadis children
- Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a project of the Women and Child Development department to provide milk and eggs to children at all anganwadis in the state.
- Kerala government has set aside over Rs 61.5 crore to include milk and eggs in the anganwadi menu.
- Each child will be given 125 ml of milk two days a week for 44 weeks (10 months) and an egg twice a week.
3) Harjinder Kaur wins bronze medal at Commonwealth Games 2022
- Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal at the women’s 71kg final at Commonwealth Games 2022.
- She brought India its seventh weightlifting medal and ninth overall of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
- Harjinder’s total attempt was of 212 kg (93 in snatch and 119 in Clean & Jerk).
- England’s Sarah Davies won a gold medal.
4) Parliament passes Weapon of Mass Destruction Amendment Bill
- Parliament has passed the Weapon of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Amendment Bill 2022.
- It seeks to amend the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Act, 2005.
- The 2005 Act prohibits unlawful activities such as manufacturing, transport or transfer related to weapons of mass destruction.
5) CCI approves acquisition of stake in IDFC by Bandhan Fin Holdings
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved Rs 4,500 crore deal wherein the Bandhan Financial Holdings led consortium will buy stakes in IDFC Asset Management and IDFC AMC Trustee.
- This includes acquisition of 99.96% stake in IDFC Asset Management Company Ltd and 100% shareholding in IDFC AMC Trustee Company Ltd.
- IDFC AMC is the asset management company of IDFC Mutual Fund.
6) 146th birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya: 2 August 2022
- On 2 August 2022, the 146th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya was celebrated across the country.
- Venkayya, a freedom fighter and staunch. Gandhian, was the first to draw up a rudimentary design of the national flag in 1921.
- His design for the National Flag was finally approved by Mahatama Gandhi in Vijayawada in 1921.
- Venkayya breathed his last on 4 July 1963.
7) Airbus & GMR form partnership for aircraft maintenance engineering
- European aerospace company Airbus on 2 August 2022 signed a contract with GMR Group to provide aircraft maintenance training to young aviation engineers in India.
- As per the agreement, Airbus will provide all the necessary software and courseware to train the engineers at the GMR School of Aviation in Hyderabad.
- In addition, Airbus will also provide training to GMR instructors.
8) Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurates 4th ONGC Para Games in New Delhi
- Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on 2 August 2022 inaugurated the 4th ONGC Para Games in New Delhi.
- Nearly 275 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) from across the country are participating in these Games.
- These all are employees of 8 central oil & gas public enterprises.
- The first edition of the ONGC Para Games was held in 2017.

9) Auguste Tano Kouamé appointed World Bank’s Country Director for India
- The World Bank has appointed Auguste Tano Kouamé as the Country Director for India.
- He replaces Junaid Kamal Ahmad who recently completed a five-year term.
- Auguste, a national of Côte d’Ivoire, most recently served as the World Bank’s Country Director for the Republic of Türkiye.

10) Commonwealth Games: India win first-ever gold medal in Lawn Bowls
- India on 2 August 2022 clinched their first-ever gold medal in Lawn Bowls after defeating South Africa in the final of the Women’s Fours event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
- The quartet of Lovely Choubey, Pinki Singh, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey led India to their first-ever medal in this sport.
- It was India’s fourth gold medal at the ongoing CWG 2022 in Birmingham.
