1) Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs signs MoU with RITES

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) has signed an MoU with RITES Limited.
  • It has been for technical assistance for Solid Waste Management & UWM under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.
  • The Technical Support Unit (TSU) of RITES will assist SBM-U for 3 yrs.
  • Under SWM, the areas of engagement will be process standardization and engineering design of waste management facilities.

 

2) Government launches Vivad se Vishwas scheme

  • The Dept of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, has launched the scheme, “Vivad se Vishwas I – Relief to MSMES” for providing relief to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for COVID-19 period.
  • The scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24 by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
  • The scheme was commenced from 17 April and the last date for submission of claims is 30 June.

 

3) Laneige signs actor Athiya Shetty as first brand face for India

  • Laneige, a Korean skincare brand has signed actor Athiya Shetty as its first-ever brand face in India.
  • As part of the association, she will represent its line of skincare products.
  • Laneige is a South Korean cosmetics brand launched by Amore Pacific in 1994.

 

4) Airtel Payments Bank collaborates with NPCI

  • Airtel Payments Bank has collaborated with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
  • It will roll out Face Authentication for AePS (Aadhaar-enabled Payment System) at its 500,000 banking points.
  • Airtel Payments Bank is amongst the first four banks to offer Face Authentication for AePS in the country.

 

5) India overtake Australia to become No. 1 Test side

  • India has overtaken Australia to regain the number one position in the ICC men’s Test team rankings.
  • India’s rating points have moved up from 119 to 121.
  • India were last at the top for a month in December 2021.
  • England remain in third position.
  • The annual update to the ODI team rankings will be carried out on May 10, 2023.

 

6) International Apparel & Textile Fair kicks off in Dubai

  • The International Apparel & Textile Fair (IATF) has returned to Dubai in 2023, for its 15th edition.
  • The India Pavilion is being jointly organised by the Apparel Export Promotion Council Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and Federation of Indian Export Organisation.
  • IATF has over 200 exhibitors from 22 countries.

 

7) 30th edition of Arabian Travel Market begins

  • The 30th edition of the Arabian Travel Market commenced on May 1st 2023 at Dubai World Trade Center with a significant presence from India.
  • The Indian pavilion, which is spread over is one of the largest at the event and has attracted a lot of attention.
  • The 30th edition of ATM will explore the future of sustainable travel in line with its theme, ‘Working Towards Net Zero’.

  • The 30th edition of the Arabian Travel Market commenced on May 1st 2023 at Dubai World Trade Center with a significant presence from India.
  • The Indian pavilion, which is spread over is one of the largest at the event and has attracted a lot of attention.

9) India achieves highest ever GST revenue collection in April 2023

  • The gross Goods and Services Tax, GST revenue collected in April this year is the highest ever at over 1,87,000 crore rupees.
  • Out of the total revenue, Central Goods and Services Tax, CGST is 38,440 crore rupees, State Goods and Services tax, SGST is 47,412 crore rupees, Integrated Goods and Services Tax, IGST is 89,158 crore rupees and cess is over 12,000 crore rupees.

 

10) DRDO & Indian Navy conducts trial of Air Droppable Container -150

  • DRDO and Indian Navy conducted the successful maiden test trial of ‘Air Droppable Container-150 (ADC) from IL 38SD aircraft off the coast of Goa.
  • ADC-150′ is an indigenously designed and developed Air Droppable Container with 150 kg payload capacity.
  • It reduces the requirement for ships to come close to the coast to collect spares and stores.

 

11) Sreeshankar wins gold in MVA High Performance athletics meet

  • Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar claimed the gold medal with a leap of 8.29 metres at the MVA High Performance athletics meet 1 held in Chula Vista, USA.
  • He had won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
  • China’s Ma Weidong secured the silver medal with a 7.99m leap, while his compatriot Huafeng Huang claimed the bronze with an effort of 7.61m.
