1) Veteran journalist Padmanand Jha passes away at 66
- Veteran journalist Padmanand Jha, who was one of the founding members of The Pioneer, died of a heart attack at the age of 66 in Goa on 30 May 2022.
- He was also the political editor at The Pioneer.
- Known by his nickname ‘Paddy, Jha had worked both for the print media and television channels.
2) Justice Mohanty gets additional charge of Lokpal Chairperson
- President Ram Nath Kovind has given justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty the additional charge of Lokpal chairperson.
- He was given the charge after justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose completed his term as the Lokpal chief in May 2022.
- The Lokpal is headed by a chairperson and can have eight members.
- At present, there are six members in the Lokpal.
3) L&T signs up with start-up to develop submarine launched UAVS
- A new range of submarine-launched drones to meet Indian Navy requirements will be developed by Larsen & Toubro.
- Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed an MoU with NewSpace Research & Technologies (NRT) at the ‘Drone Mahotsav!
- Submarine-launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVS) are a relatively new concept with few nations around the world having the capability to operate such systems.
4) Goa Statehood Day: 30 May
- Every year on May 30, Goa celebrates its statehood day because on May 30, 1987 Goa got its full statehood and became the 25th state of the Republic of India.
- Goa was liberated from the Portuguese on 19 December 1961. Liberation Day is celebrated in Goa on 19th December.
- Goa is the smallest state in India by area and the fourth smallest state by population.

5) PARAM ANANTA Supercomputer commissioned at IIT, Gandhinagar
- PARAM ANANTA, a state-of the art Supercomputer was commissioned on May 30, 2022 at IIT, Gandhinagar.
- It has been established under Phase 2 of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
- The supercomputer is capable of offering peak performance of 838 teraflops.
- Under NSM, till May 2022, 15 supercomputers have been installed across the nation with aggregate compute capacity of 24 petaflops.
6) Venkaiah Naidu embarks on 3-nation tour to Gabon, Senegal and Qatar
- Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on 30 May 2022 embarked on a three-nation tour to Gabon, Senegal, and Qatar.
- This is the first-ever visit from India at the level of Vice President to all three countries.
- During the first leg of his visit to Gabon from 30th May to 1st of June, the Vice President will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister of Gabon Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda.
7) Rs 100 currency notes, Rs 5 coin most preferred in India: RBI Survey
- People in India most prefer the Rs 100 denomination banknotes, while Rs 2,000 are least preferred.
- This was revealed in a Reserve Bank of India survey of a diverse sample of 11,000 respondents revealed.
- Among coins, Rs 5 is most preferred, whereas Re 1 is least preferred.
- The survey has been conducted to assess demand for cash as well as denomination preferences at the consumer level.
8) Wesley Morgan won William E. Colby award
- Author and journalist, Wesley Morgan has won the William E. Colby Award 2022 for his military and intelligence writing.
- He was cited for his book “The Hardest Place: The American Military Adrift in Afghanistan’s Pech Valley!”
- The Colby Award is presented by Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.
- The Colby award was established in 1999.
9) NHA launches online dashboard for Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission
- The National Health Authority (NHA) under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has launched a public dashboard for real-time information on the scheme.
- The public dashboard will be a one-stop solution for information on the mission’s progress at state level.
- As per the dashboard, the total number of Ayushman Bharat Health Account numbers created are over 22 crore.
10) 2022 Cannes Awards: Winners
- The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival came to a glittering close with the nine-member jury. The jury included an Indian face in actor Deepika Padukone.
- Best Director goes to Park Chan-wook for Decision to Leave.
- Best Actor goes to Song Kang-ho for Broker.
- Best Actress goes to Zar Amir Ebrahimi for Holy Spider.
11) Mumbai Int’l Film Festival: Bangladesh to be ‘country of focus’
- Bangladesh has been selected as the “Country of Focus” at the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) in India to commemorate the country’s 50 years of independence.
- A special package of 11 films from Bangladesh will be presented at the film festival MIFF 2022.
- Union Minister Piyush Goyal on 29 May 2022 inaugurated the 17th edition of the festival in Mumbai.

12) Rajnath Singh inaugurates the 39th Commanders’ Conference of ICG
- Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 3-day 39th Commanders’ Conference of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in New Delhi on May 30, 2022.
- The ICG Commanders’ conference is held annually, where all Regional Commanders put forth the roadmap for the future and discuss various policy & strategic issues.
- The Indian Coast Guard was formally established on 1 February 1977.
13) M Sreeshankar wins gold medal in Greece
- Tokyo Olympian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar bagged a gold medal in Greece with a 7.95m jump at Venizeleia-Chania 2022 athletics meet on 29 May 2022.
- It was his second gold in Greece in five days after his victory (with 8.31m) in Kallithea, Athens, on 25 May 2022.
- Sreeshankar has already qualified for the World Athletics Championships 2022 with a national record jump of 8.36m in April 2022.
14) US become India’s Biggest Trading Partner at $119 Billion.
- According to the data of the Commerce Ministry, in 2021-22, the bilateral trade between the US and India stood at $119.42 billion against $80.51 billion in 2020-21.
- Exports to the US increased to $76.11 billion in 2021-22 from $51.62 billion in previous fiscal year, while imports rose to $43.31 billion as compared to about $29 billion in 2020-21.
15) World No-Tobacco Day: 31 May
- World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on 31 May to raise awareness about the damage caused by consuming tobacco.
- The WHO member countries agreed to observe World No-Tobacco Day on May 31 in 1987.
- The theme for the year 2022 is “Protect The Environment”
- In the year 2022, the WHO has selected Jharkhand for the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) Award.
16) ‘Yoga for Humanity’ is the theme for 8th International Day of Yoga
- The 8th edition of International Day of Yoga will be celebrated with the theme “Yoga for Humanity”
- Ministry of Ayush has chosen this theme for 8th International Day of Yoga 2022 to be organised in India and across the globe on 21st June 2022.
- The theme of last year’s International Day of Yoga organised during COVID-19 pandemic was “Yoga for wellness”

17) Tata Motors Signs MoU To Buy Ford India Plant At Sanand, Gujarat
- Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gujarat govt for the potential acquisition of Ford India’s Sanand plant.
- The agreement includes a transfer of Ford India’s land & buildings, vehicle manufacturing plant, machinery, and transfer of all eligible employees.
- Ford Motor Company had announced its exit from the Indian market in late 2021.
18) India likely to get its first semi-high speed freight train
- Based on the Vande Bharat platform, the 16-coach ‘Gati Shakti’ train will be able to run at 160 km/hour and will be manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
- this train is constructed under ” PM – Gatishakti National Master plan for multi-modal connectivity.

19) Legendary Jockey Lester Piggot passes away
- Former champion Jockey Lester Piggot, who won the Epsom Derby Nine times and was considered one of the greatest riders of all time, died at 86.
- Piggot, nicknamed ” The long Fellow” has won the Indian Turf Invention Cup In 1991.
20) Yuzvendra Chahal, Jos Buttler become third duo to win Orange cap
- Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal from Rajasthan Royals become the 3rd pair in IPL history to bag the Orange Cap and Purple Cap, respectively from same franchise.
- It is only the 3rd time in the history of the IPL that the highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker of a season have been from the same team.
- In 2013, Michael Hussey bagged the Orange Cap while Dwayne Bravo won the Purple Cap.
