- In 637 CE, the city of Antioch surrendered to the Muslim forces under the Rashidun Caliphate after the Battle of Iron Bridge.
- In 1905, Czar Nicholas II issued the October Manifesto, granting the Russian people basic civil liberties and the right to form a duma.
- In 1918, during World War I, the Ottoman Empire signed the Armistice of Mudros with the Allies and its role in the war got ended.
1) World Audio Drama Day: 30 October
- On October 30th, World Audio Drama Day celebrates telling stories through sound
- Sibby Wieland, an audio drama enthusiast from Texas, came up with the idea for World Audio Drama Day in 2012
- The first event occurred on October 13, 2013. This date was the 75th anniversary of the “The War of the Worlds” radio broadcast, which take place in 1938.
2) Indo-Kazakhstan joint military exercise to commence on Oct 30
- A combined contingent from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, consisting of 120 personnel, has set off for Kazakhstan to participate in the 7th edition of the Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2023
- This year’s exercise will take place in Otar, Kazakhstan, spanning from Oct 30 to Nov 11
- The Indian Army’s contingent is comprised of 90 personnel, led by a battalion from the DOGRA Regiment
3) ICAR and Thünen Institute to organize a workshop on food loss & waste
- The Indian Council of Agriculture Research in collaboration with the Thünen Institute, Germany is organizing an International Workshop on Food Loss and Waste Prevention
- The workshop is to be organised at National Agricultural Science Centre Complex, New Delhi from 30th October to 1st November 2023
- The workshop will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Agriculture& Farmers’Welfare
4) VK Elakkiyadasan, SS Sneha crowned fastest athletes
- VK Elakkiyadasan of Tamil Nadu and SS Sneha of Karnataka were crowned the fastest athletes of the 37th National Games
- They clinched the men’s and women’s 100m gold medals at the GMC Bambolim Athletic Stadium
- Maharashtra became the first contingent to cross the 100 medals mark In the women’s category
- S Sneha of Karnataka crossed the finish line with a timing of 11.45 sec
5) Fincare SFB to be amalgamated into AU Small Finance Bank
- The small finance banking sector, Fincare Small Finance Bank is poised to amalgamate into AU Small Finance Bank, with the merger slated to take effect from February 1, 2024
- AU SFB, in a late evening regulatory filing, announced its approval of the amalgamation
- Shareholders of Fincare SFB will receive 579 shares in AU SFB for every 2,000 shares they hold in Fincare SFB
6) ‘Waste to Art’ – ‘Scrap to Sculpture’ Exhibition organized
- As a part of Special Campaign 3.0, a ‘Waste to Art’ – ‘Scrap to Sculpture’ Exhibition was organized by the Ministry of Culture to showcase the best creative initiatives taken by its various Organizations at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi
- The Exhibition was inaugurated by Minister of State for Culture Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal
- The Exhibition will continue till 31st October 2023
7) G7 to agree AI code of conduct for companies
- The Group of Seven industrial countries agreed on a code of conduct for companies developing advanced artificial intelligence systems
- As governments seek to mitigate the risks and potential misuse of the technology
- The voluntary code of conduct will set a landmark for how major countries govern AI, amid privacy concerns and security risks
8) Yuki-Cash pair stuns Olivetti and Galloway to win Brest Challenger
- India’s Yuki Bhambri and his British partner Julian Cash stunned top-seeded French-Brit pair of Albano Olivetti and Robert Galloway to win the men’s doubles title at the Brest Challenger tournament in France on Sunday.
- The second-seeded Yuki-Cash duo scored a battling 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-5 win over their opponents.
- This was the third Challenger title for Yuki, and the 31-year-old Indian
9) Anish Bhanwala wins bronze and India’s 12th Paris Olympics quota place
- Commonwealth Games gold medallist shooter Anish Bhanwala bagged India’s 12th Paris Olympic quota in shooting as he clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 25m rapid pistol fire event at the Asian Championships in Changwon, Korea
- The 21-year-old from Karnal, who had 28 hits in the final, lost a shoot out to Japan’s Dai Yoshioka, who won the silver medal.
10) India can steer 6G standardization & become a global exporter
- Secretary Department of Science and Technology Professor Abhay Karandikar said that India with its’ indigenous 5G technology in place, committed and dedicated team of researchers in academia
- India is contributing hugely to the massive escalation of global data volume and by 2030 India’s share may increase to one third or even more of the total data generated from standard mobile communication
11) Snow-skiing event organised to promote winter sports in JK’s Kishtwar
- A snow-skiing event was organised at picturesque Sinthan in an effort to promote adventure tourism and winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district
- The thrilling event witnessed the active participation of more than 50 skilled skiers, including enthusiastic trainees from the Jawahar Institute of Monitoring and Winter Sports

13) Excess fluoride in water linked to cognitive impairment in children
- Long-term water consumption with fluoride levels far above established standards may be associated with cognitive impairments
- The research, published in the journal Neurotoxicology and Teratology, was conducted in rural Ethiopia where farming communities use wells with varying levels of naturally occurring fluoride from 0.4 to 15.5 mg/L
- The WHO recommends fluoride levels below 1.5 mg/L
