DAILY DOSE 30TH MARCH CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) NPCI recommends up to 1.1% interchange fee on UPI
- National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has notified that an interchange fee of up to 1.1% will be applicable on merchant UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transactions with effect from April 1, 2023.
- The charge will be levied on UPI payments of over 2,000.
- The charges are only applicable for prepaid payment instruments (PPI) transactions and there is no charge to customers.
2) Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra tea gets European Gl tag
- Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra tea awarded the European Geographical Indicator (GI) tag on 29 March 2023.
- The tag will help Kangra tea to get an opportunity to enter the European market.
- Kangra tea received the Indian Gl tag in 2005.
- Since 1999, the cultivation and development of tea have improved constantly in the Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh.
3) Telangana govt to rejuvenate 50 lakes in Hyderabad
- The Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of the Telangana Government has launched a programme to rejuvenate and develop 50 water bodies in and around Hyderabad.
- Minister K Taraka Rama Rao inaugurated the ‘Lakes Development Programme’ at Khajaguda Lake on March 28, 2023.
- Of the 50 lakes, 25 are in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
4) ICG conducts Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise in Andhra Pradesh
- The Indian Coast Guard conducted Regional Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise during 28-29 March 2023 at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
- The aim of the exercise was to simulate a real time maritime distress scenario and highlight the functioning of Search and Rescue (SAR) organisation for a mass rescue operation.
- Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kakinada coordinated with ICG during the exercise.
5) MoD inks contracts with BEL, NSIL to bolster defence capabilities
- The Defence Ministry, on 29 Mar 2023, signed three contracts worth Rs 5,400 crore to bolster the defense capabilities of the country.
- The first contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is for the procurement of an Automated Air Defence Control and Reporting System, ‘Project Akashteer!
- The 2nd contract with BEL is for the acquisition of Sarang Electronic Support Measure (ESM) systems.
6) India-Russia WG meet on Roads & Transport Systems held in New Delhi
- The first meeting of the India-Russia Working Group on Roads and Intelligent Transport Systems was held in New Delhi on 29 March 2023.
- The meeting was organised with the objective to establish a long-term and effective bilateral relationship of communication and cooperation in the road transportation, logistics, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and green mobility sector.
7) Bharat Dynamics successfully test fires Amogha-III anti-tank missile
- Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) successfully field-fired a fire-and-forget man-portable anti-tank guided missile, Amogha-III on March 26, 2023.
- The missile has a minimum and maximum effective range of 2500 metres.
- The man portable missile has a Tandem. warhead that can penetrate Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) to over 650 millimetres.
- This model has a Dual Mode Imaging Infra Red (IIR) Seeker.
8) Indian economy to grow at 6.5% in next decade: Chief Economic Advisor
- Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran on 29 March 2023 announced that the Indian Economy is likely to grow at the rate of 6.5 percent in the coming decade.
- The Finance Ministry’s Economic Survey has projected the economic growth to be 6.5 percent in 2023-24.
- While the RBI has projected India’s economic growth to slow down to 6.4 percent in Financial Year 2024.
9) 1st G20 disaster risk reduction working group meet to begin on 30 Mar
- The First G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting will begin at Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 30 March 2023.
- MOS for Communication Devusinh Chauhan will inaugurate the meeting.
- Five priority areas have been identified for the meeting which include an early warning for all, resilient infrastructure, and improving the National System for Disaster Risk Reduction.
10) SCO National Security Advisors’ meet begins in New Delhi on 29 March
- The meeting of the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was hosted by India in New Delhi on 29 March 2023.
- India is the current chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) 2023.
- The group denounced terrorism in all forms and agreed that its financing is amongst the most serious threats to global peace.
