1) Ola launches e-Bike taxi service in Delhi & Hyderabad
- Ola Mobility has launched its new e-bike taxi service in Delhi and Hyderabad. The company will deploy 10,000 electric scooters in both cities in the coming months.
- Ola launched its e-bike taxi service in Bangalore on a pilot basis in September 2023. Within 3 months, company saw a 40% market expansion, with over 1.75 million rides.
- Ola has set up 200 charging stations in Bangalore.
2) UP Govt. set to launch 1st Water Metro service in Ayodhya.
- The water metro services in Ayodhya will start between the Guptar Ghat and Sant Tulsidas Ghat.
- The total distance between these two ghats is about 14 kilometers.
- These vessels will work on electricity.
- Once they charge, they can work for an hour. These AC vessels can take 50 passengers at a time, and easy and fast charging stations will also be set up at the ghat.
3) Jatinder Aulakh takes oath Punjab Public Service Commission chairman
- The oath of office for the newly-appointed Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission, Jatinder Singh Aulakh, was administered by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
- Aulakh, a 1997-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, retired as additional director general of police (intelligence) on January 31, 2023.
4) AZALI Assoumani re-elected as President of the Comoros
- The Comoros Supreme Court validated the contested re-election of President Azali Assoumani in the elections
- The court affirmed Azali’s victory and said he secured 57.2% of the vote, a figure adjusted from the initially declared 62.97%.
- He became head of state after staging a coup d’état in 1999 and was elected president in 2002, 2016, 2019 and 2024.
5) Kishan Reddy inaugurates Sound and Light Show at OU in Hyderabad
- Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy inaugurated a state-of-the-art Light and Sound System at the Arts College in Osmania University (ου).
- The project was developed under the “Scheme for Assistance to Central Agencies” by the Ministry of Tourism.

6) Dr. Nitya Anand, developer of contraceptive pill, passed away at 99.
- Nitya Anand, the developer of India’s first oral contraceptive pill ‘Saheli’, has passed away at the age of 99.
- He served as the former director of the Central Drug Research Institute and was instrumental in the discovery of Centchroman.
- In 2012, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government.
7) Indian Navy warship rescues hijacked Iranian vessel in Gulf of Aden
- INS Sumitra responded to a distress call involving the hijacking of a fishing vessel (FV) Iman flying the Iranian flag while conducting anti-piracy operations off the east coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden.
- About twelve of the Indian Navy’s warships are presently in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden conducting anti-piracy and maritime security operations.
8) Centre extends ban on SIMI under UAPA for another 5 years
- The Centre had declared the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as an ‘unlawful association’ in 2014.
- The SIMI has been found involved in fomenting terrorism, disturbing peace and communal harmony to threaten the sovereignty, security and integrity of Bharat
- The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) was first banned on February 1, 2014 by the Indian government.
9) EAM S. Jaishankar inaugurates IHCL Skill Centre in Ektanagar
- External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar inaugurates Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) Skill Centre at Circuit House in Ektanagar, Gujarat.
- Emphasizes the importance of tourism in spreading the message of unity, encourages more people to visit the Statue of Unity.
- Appreciates IHCL for setting up a hotel and skill centre, contributing to the growth of Kevadia as a tourist destination.
10) Zomato received the nod from the RBI for online payment aggregator.
- RBI grants final approval to Zomato on January 24 to operate as online payment aggregators.
- The latest additions bring the total count to 11 entities authorized by the regulator for online aggregation services in India.
- Zomato emphasizes leveraging financial service licenses to enhance offerings within its ecosystem, rather than entering fintech as a standalone player.
