1) INS Gharial as part of Mission SAGAR IX arrives in Colombo

  • INS Gharial, as part of Mission SAGAR IX, arrived at Colombo on 29 April 2022 and delivered over 760 kgs of 107 types of critical lifesaving medicines.
  • The aim was to provide critical medical aid to Sri Lanka during the ongoing crisis.
  • Since May 2020, the Indian Navy has successfully concluded eight such missions, deploying ten ships to 18 friendly foreign countries.

 

2) Qualcomm India partners with C-DAC to support semiconductor startups

  • For 2022, Qualcomm India has announced a collaboration with the C-DAC, an autonomous scientific society of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
  • C-DAC will be an outreach partner for a program and facilitate exposure for the participating startups.
  • Qualcomm plans to initiate and conduct the Qualcomm® Semiconductor Mentorship Program (‘QSMP’).

 

3) 12 national highway projects worth 8,000 cr inaugurated in Hyderabad

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated 12 national highway projects totalling 460 Km worth 8,000 crores and seven CRIF Projects in Hyderabad, on 29 April 2022.
  • These projects will boost inter-state connectivity by enabling seamless travel between Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.

 

4) Pencilton introduces contactless RuPay card in the form of keychain

  • Pencilton has launched PencilKey, a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) compliant RuPay contactless keychain.
  • It has been launched in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Transcorp.
  • Users can activate and manage their PencilKey through the Pencilton app which is also used to load money, check spends, block/unblock the account, set limits, and so on.

 

5) Aircraft carrier Vikrant to be handed over to Indian Navy by Aug 2022

  • The indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant being built by the Cochin Shipyard Ltd will be handed over to the Indian Navy by August 2022.
  • The final sea trial of the IAC will take place in May 2022.
  • The yard is also in the process of setting up a new drydock, with a 600-tonne gantry crane, capable of handling vessels up to Suezmax, and aircraft carriers of 70,000 tonnes displacement.

 

6) International Dance Day: 29 April

  • International Dance Day is observed on April 29 every year to celebrate different dance forms.
  • The Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute started celebrating April 29 as International Dance Day from 1982.
  • The day also marks the birthday of the creator of the modern ballet dance form, Jean-Georges Noverre.

 

7) Devendra Fadnavis releases book on Amit Shah

  • Devendra Fadnavis released a Marathi book on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in April 2022.
  • It is titled ‘Amit Shah Ani Bhajapachi Vatchal!
  • It documents the life and journey of Shah and his contribution to building the BJP.
  • The book, originally written by Dr Anirban Ganguly and Shivanand Dwivedi, has been translated into Marathi by Dr Jyostna Kolhatkar.

 

8) Indian, French armies hold staff talks to boost cooperation

  • Staff talks between the armies of India and France were held on 28 April 2022 to enhance cooperation with the two entities.
  • The talks were focused on issues related to military training, military education, joint exercises, and defence cooperation between the two armies.
  • This was the 18th round of staff talks between the two armies.

 

9) Robert Golob elected as Prime Minister of Slovenia

  • Robert Golob has been elected as the Prime Minister of Slovenia.
  • He is a newcomer to Slovenian politics and had established his party in January 2022.
  • He defeated Slovenia’s three-time Prime Minister Janez Jansa in the elections.
  • Slovenia is a country in Central Europe with its capital being Ljubljana.
  • Borut Pahor is the President of Slovenia.

 

10) Government finalises disinvestment of Pawan Hans

  • The government has finalized disinvestment for helicopter service provider Pawan Hans Ltd.
  • An empowered cabinet group picked Star9 Mobility Private Ltd as the winner for buying a 51% stake in Pawan Hans.
  • Pawan Hans provides air transport services for exploration activities of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.
  • The federal government has a 51% stake in Pawan Hans, while ONGC holds 49%.

11) Siva Sridhar claims seven gold at Khelo India University Games

  • At the end of the sixth day of the Khelo India University Games in Bengaluru, the Jain University won the highest number of medals, on 28 April 2022.
  • With 16 gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, it occupies the first place in the medal tally currently.
  • Siva Sridhar was the star performer winning seven gold and two silver medals in swimming.

 

12) BOB launches new feature for seniors on mobile banking platform

  • Bank of Baroda has launched ‘bob World Gold, a new feature on its mobile banking platform for senior citizens.
  • The new feature on the Bank’s ‘bob World’ mobile banking platform has easy navigation, large fonts, and clear menus with added features. like a ready-to-assist voice-based search service.
  • More emphasis has been given to the login dashboard and services such as deposit renewal, etc.

 

13) Baggavalli Somashekar to take over as Vice Chief of the Army Staff

  • Lt Gen Baggavalli Somashekar Raju will take over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 1 May’22.
  • He was commissioned in the JAT Regiment in 1984.
  • He commanded his Battalion during Op Parakram in Jammu & Kashmir.
  • He also holds the distinction of commanding the Uri brigade along the Line of Control.
  • He has been awarded Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Yudh Seva Medal.

 

14) Atal New India Challenge 2.0 (ANIC 2.0) launch

  • Atal Innovation Mission launched phase 1 of the 2nd edition of the Atal New India Challenge (ANIC 2.0) on 28th April 2022.
  • Atal New India Challenge is a flagship program of Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog.
  • The program aims to seek, select, support, and nurture technology-based innovations that solve sectoral challenges of national importance and societal relevance.

 

15) PM Modi inaugurates Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS)

  • on 29 April 2022, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS) in Surat, Gujarat.
  • Sardardham is organizing GPBS under Mission-2026 to provide an impetus to the socio-economic development of Patidar community.
  • The Summit is organized every two years.
  • The main theme of GPBS-2022 is ‘Aatmanirbhar Community to Aatmanirbhar Gujarat and India!

 

16) Govt launches revamped Zero Effect Zero Defect Scheme for MSMEs

  • The Ministry of MSME has launched a revamped Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) Certification Scheme.
  • The Scheme is aimed to enable and facilitate MSMEs to adopt Zero Defect Zero Effect practices besides motivating and incentivizing them for ZED certification.
  • The first phase of the revamped scheme will focus on manufacturing MSMEs, the second would be aimed at the MSMEs in the services sector.

 

17) World Veterinary Day: 30 April 2022

  • World Veterinary Day is observed on the last Saturday of April, every year.
  • For 2022 it is on April 30.
  • The day aims to spread awareness about animal health care and the steps one should undertake to curb animal cruelty.
  • World Veterinary Day was created in 2000 by the World Veterinary Association.
  • The theme for 2022 is ‘Strengthening Veterinary Resilience!

 

18) Vijay Sampla appointed NCSC chairperson for second time

  • Union minister Vijay Sampla has been appointed as the chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for a second time.
  • The official order for his appointment was issued by President Ram Nath Kovind in April 2022.
  • Sampla, a prominent Dalit face of Punjab, began his political career in 1998 as the Sarpanch of Sofipind village in Jalandhar Cantonment.
