1) 50th Manipur Shumang Leela Festival began

  • The 50th Manipur Shumang Leela Festival began at Iboyama Shumang Leela Shanglen, Imphal.
  • Manipur Governor La Ganesan and CM N. Biren Singh attended the inaugural function.
  • Shumang Leela is a traditional form of theatre in Manipur where the roles of female artists are all played by male actors and vice versa.
  • Originally Shumang Leela began as a comedy genre presented to kings and nobles.

 

2) Moody’s slashes India’s economic growth forecast to 7.7% for 2022

  • Moody’s Investors Service slashed India’s economic growth projection for 2022 to 7.7%, citing dampening of economic momentum in coming quarters on rising interest rates, uneven monsoon, and slowing global growth.
  • Earlier Moody’s had projected India’s GDP to expand by 8.8% this year.
  • Indian economy grew by 8.3% in 2021 after a 6.7% contraction in 2020.

 

3) PM Modi lays foundation stone of phase two of Kochi Metro

  • OPM Modi laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the Kochi Metro project on 1 September 2022.
  • He also inaugurated the first phase extension linking S N Junction and Vadakkekotta at a function in Kochi.
  • He also dedicated to the nation three other railway projects.
  • The phase two corridor of the Kochi Metro project covers a distance of 11. 2 km.
  • It is estimated to cost Rs 1957 cr.

 

4) HM Amit Shah launches “CAPF eAwas” web-portal in New Delhi

  • Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Central Armed Police Forces’ eAwas web-portal in New Delhi on 1 September 2022.
  • It has been developed in order to operationalise the revised policy of allotment and to also bring transparency to the allotment process.
  • The web-portal will enable online registration and allotment of residential quarters to eligible personnel of CAPFS and Assam Rifles.

 

5) Know About: Central Armed Police Forces

  • Central Armed Police Forces or CAPF consists of all the central armed police organisations of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • It was formerly known as Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF).
  • CAPF is further classified into three: Border Guarding Forces, Forces for Internal Security, and Special Task Force.
  • These forces are responsible for internal security and guarding the borders.

 

6) Yamuna Kumar Chaubey takes over as NHPC CMD

  • Yamuna Kumar Chaubey took over as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC on 1 September 2022.
  • He succeeded Abhay Kumar Singh, who superannuated on 31 August.
  • Chaubey is currently Director (Technical) in NHPC & has been given additional charge of the post of CMD for a period of 3 months till a regular incumbent joins the post.

7) ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ begins across India on September 1

  • Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2022 across the nation from 1st till 30th September 2022.
  • Every year the Poshan Maah is celebrated under POSHAN Abhiyaan (PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment), which was launched in 2018 in Rajasthan.
  • In 2022, the key focus of the Poshan Maah is on “Mahila aur Swasthya” and “Bacha aur Shiksha”.

 

8) Indian Army participates in Russia’s ‘Vostok’ military exercise

  • A multilateral strategic and command military exercise ‘Vostok’ commenced on 1 September 2022 in Russia.
  • This exercise will continue till 7th September.
  • The Indian Army contingent comprising of troops from Gorkha Rifles joined the exercise in Russia in which a number of countries, including China, are participating.
  • It is aimed at coordination amongst participating military contingents.

 

9) World Coconut Day: 2 September

  • World Coconut Day is celebrated on September 2 every year in major coconut-producing countries, including India.
  • The day is marked to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of coconuts.
  • It was celebrated for the first time on 2 September 2009 by the Asian & Pacific Coconut Community (APCC)
  • 2022 theme: “Cultivate coconut for a happy life and future”

 

10) SBI lowers India’s GDP forecast to 6.8% for FY23

  • SBI has revised down India’s full-year GDP growth forecast to 6.8 for the financial year FY23. Earlier, the growth forecast was 7.5%.
  • SBI’s lowering of GDP growth forecast comes after National Statistical Office (NSO) released data for the April-June quarter (Q1) of 2022-23, where the economy showed a growth of 13.5%.
  • This growth rate is lower compared to 20.1% growth in Q1 of last year.

 

11) POSCO signs MoU with Greenko to make green hydrogen

  • Global steelmaker POSCO has signed an MoU with ZeroC, a subsidiary of renewable energy company Greenko to make green hydrogen in India.
  • This partnership will also explore opportunities in the production of renewable energy in India.
  • Green hydrogen refers to hydrogen generated by renewable energy or from low-carbon power.

12) Dr Munjpara Kalubhai unveils “Science Behind Suryanamaskar” book

  • Minister of State for AYUSH Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai unveiled a book titled “Science behind Suryanamaskar,” in August 2022.
  • It is a collection of evidence-based research on ‘Suryanamaskar’, one of the most well-known Yoga asanas.
  • This book has been compiled by the All India Institute of Ayurveda’s (AIIA) Department of Swasthavritta and Yoga.
