1) Know About: University Grants Commission (UGC)
- UGC is a statutory body set up by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
- It is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India.
- A proposal to replace it with another new regulatory body called HECI is under consideration by the Govt of India.
- Founded: 1956

2) Puducherry celebrated its Liberation Day on 1 November 2022
- The Union Territory of Puducherry celebrated its Liberation Day on 1 Nov 2022.
- It was on 1st November 1954 the union territory was liberated from French colonialism following a referendum in which all elected members from Puducherry voted against the French and preferred to join India.
- Later the Indian government effected the de-jure transferring the territory to its union on 16 Aug 1962.
3) UP’s Ranipur Tiger Reserve becomes 53rd tiger reserve of India
- Ranipur Tiger Reserve in Uttar Pradesh has become the 53rd tiger reserve in India.
- The reserve will span across 529.89 square km, with a 299.58 sq. km buffer zone and 230 sq. km core area.
- As of right now, the Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary in Chitrakoot district has no tigers of its own.
- Apart from Ranipur, UP has three tiger reserves- Dudhwa, Pilibhit and Amangarh.
4) World Vegan Day: 1st November
- Every year, World Vegan Day is celebrated. on November 1st.
- Veganism is the practice of staying away from the use of animal products & extending the philosophy to banning of commodification of animals.
- On this day, people are made aware of the benefits of veganism & how it is a sustainable approach to the environment as well.
- This day was established in 1994 by The Vegan Society in the UK.
5) India Water Week to be celebrated from 1st 5th November 2022
- In an effort to raise awareness, conserve and use water resources in an integrated manner, Union Ministry of Water Resources will organize the 7th edition of India Water Week from 1st to 5th Nov 2022.
- The theme of 7th edition is “Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity”
- The event will be inaugurated by the President of India Droupadi Murmu on 1st Nov 2022 in Greater Noida, UP.
6) World Cities Day: 31st October
- World Cities Day is celebrated on October 31 every year to highlight the need for international cooperation to promote global urbanisation and address its challenges.
- This day was established by the UN General Assembly in 2013 and was first celebrated in 2014.
- A different city hosts the event each year & Shanghai, China, hosted the event in 2022.
- 2022 Theme: “Act Local to Go Global”
7) Know About: Spain
- Spain is a transcontinental country predominantly located in southwestern Europe.
- With an area of 505,990 sq km, Spain is the second-largest country in the European Union &, with a population exceeding 47.4 million, the fourth-most populous EU member country.

8) Know About: Black Sea Grain Initiative
- The Black Sea Grain Initiative was an agreement brokered in July 2022 between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey & the UN during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- It put in place a procedure that guaranteed the safety of ships carrying Ukrainian grain & other foodstuff through a humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea.
- Ukraine normally supplies the world with around 45 million tonnes of grain every year.
9) Karnataka Rajyotsava Day: 1st November
- Karnataka Formation Day is celebrated as ‘Rajyotsava’ day on 1 November every year.
- This celebration marks the birth of Karnataka state, on 1st Nov 1956 by way of merger of Kannada speaking regions of South India.
- In 1956, boundaries of Mysuru state were redefined to include Kannada speaking regions of other adjacent states.
- The name was changed from ‘Mysuru’ to ‘Karnataka’ on 1st Nov 1973.
10) 4th Foundation Day of UT Ladakh: 31st October 2022
- Ladakh’s Foundation Day was observed on 31 October 2022 both at the district headquarters in Leh and Kargil of UT Ladakh.
- Ladakh was established as a union territory of India on 31 October 2019, following the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
- Prior to that, it was part of the Jammu and Kashmir state.
- It is the largest and the 2nd least populous union territory of India.
11) Kerala celebrates 66th formation day as ‘Kerala Pirayi day’
- Kerala celebrated its 66th formation day on 1 Nov’22, which is also known as ‘Kerala Pirayi day!
- It was formed on 1st November 1956, amalgamating Malabar, Cochin and Thiruvithancoor.
- The President’s Trophy Boat Race is part of the day’s celebrations.
- For 2022, a human chain was formed in Thiruvananthapuram to mark the end of the first phase of the State government’s ‘No to drugs’ campaign.
