1) Brazil’s legendary footballer Pele passes away at the age of 82
- Brazilian football legend Pele, who won a record three World Cups passed away at the age of 82 on 28th December 2022.
- Pelé was born in 1940 in Tres Carcass, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- He was the only player to win the World Cup three times.
- He was named Fifa’s Player of the Century in 2000.
- He is credited with scoring a world record of 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances.
2) Know About: Shriram Finance Ltd
- Shriram Finance Limited is the largest retail NBFC in India.
- In November 2022, Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited, Shriram City Union Finance Limited, and Shriram Capital Limited merged to form Shriram Finance Limited.

3) PM Modi lags off West Bengal’s first Vande Bharata Express Train
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th December 2022 virtually flagged off Vande Bharat Express from Howrah Railway Station connecting Howrah to New Jalpaiguri.
- He also launched a stretch of Kolkata Metro Purple Line at the function.
- This is the first Vande Bharata Express to operate in West Bengal.
- Also, it is the seventh Vande Bharat train in the country operated by the Indian Railways.

5) UP govt. inaugurated ‘E-Sushrut’ HMIS in UP medical colleges
- The Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and Minister of State for Medical Education Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh inaugurated the ‘E-Sushrut’ Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) in 22 state medical colleges in December 2022.
- It was launched by the state medical education department in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Adavanced Computing (CDAC).

- World Rapid Chess Championships ended in Almaty in December 2022.
- Magnus Carlsen won his fourth rapid crown.
- He had already triumphed in 2014, 2015 and 2019.
- The second place in the World Rapid went to Vincent Keymer.
- In the Women’s tournament, Tan Zhongyi of China won gold after defeating local player Dinara Saduakassova in the tiebreaker.
8) 2022 FIDE World Blitz Championship: Carlsen & Bibisara wins gold
- Magnus Carlsen and Bibisara Assaubayeva won the World Blitz Championships in Almaty, in December 2022.
- Carlsen thus grabbed the triple crown, as he is currently the classical, rapid and blitz world champion.
- The 18-year-old Assaubayeva, on her part, defended the title she had won in 2021.

9) BSE appoints Sundararaman Ramamurthy as MD, CEO
- Ramamurthy will join as the Managing Director and chief executive officer (CEO) of the exchange from January 4, 2023.

- The position has been vacant since July 2022 when then MD and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan resigned.
- Until recently he was the MD & Chief Operating Officer in Indian arm of Bank of America.
