1) World Wetlands Day 2024
- World Wetlands Day is observed on February 2.
- The Ramsar Convention treaty was signed on February 2, 1971.
- The theme of WWD-2024 is ‘Wetlands and Human Wellbeing’
- The number of Ramsar sites in India is 80, with Tamil Nadu continuing to have the maximum number of Ramsar Sites (16 sites) followed by Uttar Pradesh (10 sites).
- The total area covered under Ramsar sites is 1.33 million ha
2) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to commission INS Sandhayak
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead the commissioning ceremony of INS Sandhayak at Visakhapatnam’s Naval Dockyard.
- Built by GRSE in Kolkata, INS Sandhayak reflects India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing with 80% indigenous content
- The ship’s role in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations reinforces India’s commitment to maritime safety and security.
3) GST collection hits ₹1.72 lakh crore in January, surging 10% YOY
- India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue witnessed a remarkable 10.4% Year-on-Year surge in January 2024, soaring to an outstanding ₹1,72,129 crore – the second-highest collection ever recorded.
- This achievement marks the third time in the fiscal year 2023-24 that the 1.7 lakh crore benchmark has been surpassed, reflecting positive economic momentum and recovery.

- Indian Navy dedicates 2024 as the ‘Year of Naval Civilians,’ aiming to enhance administration, efficiency, and well-being through targeted initiatives in Civilian HR Management.
- Naval Civilian Personnel, constituting a third of the Navy’s workforce, play a vital role in operational effectiveness across various domains, including Command Headquarters, Dockyards, and Training Establishments.
6) President Murmu to illuminate Surajkund International Crafts Mela
- The Surajkund Mela 2024 is scheduled to commence on February 02 and will run until February 18.
- The 37th Surajkund Mela 2024 is scheduled to take place in Surajkund, Faridabad.
- The festival will commence with a grand inauguration, presided over by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu.
- It is Organized by the Haryana Tourism Department in Surajkund.
7) Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024
- It is India’s largest and first-of-its-kind mobility exhibition – Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
- The expo, featuring 800+ exhibitors from 50+ countries, will display cutting-edge technologies, sustainable solutions, and breakthroughs in mobility, including participation from 28 vehicle manufacturers and 600+ auto component manufacturers.

- Commissioned in the Executive branch of the Indian Navy in 1990, he is a Hydrography Specialist.
- The Flag Officer has commanded IN Ships Darshak and Sandhayak.
- He also has the distinction of serving onboard HMS Bulldog of the Royal Navy.
11) Kenya announced discovery of Coltan Deposits
- Kenya discovered coltan deposits within its borders for the first time, presenting a potential economic boost.
- Coltan is a valuable mineral used in producing electronics and electric car batteries, with global demand expected to rise.
- Ethical concerns surrounding coltan mining, such as environmental destruction and labor rights abuses, necessitate responsible extraction practices in Kenya.
12) International Energy Agency Electricity 2024 Report
- India’s electricity demand to grow at 6.5% annually until 2026, surpassing China’s growth rate.
