1) Government launches 11th agricultural census 2021-22

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched the eleventh agricultural census to collect data on various parameters, including operational holdings.
  • For the first time, the data will be collected through smartphones and tablets.
  • The agricultural census is the main source of information on various parameters, such as the number and area of operational holdings, their size, land use etc.

 

2) Pranay Verma appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh

  • IFS officer of 1994 batch Pranay Kumar Verma has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
  • He is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam.
  • Verma will succeed current High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami.
  • Simultaneously, Sandeep Arya, an IFS officer of the 1994 batch has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Vietnam.

 

3) Egypt signs agreement with India for Suez Canal Economic Zone

  • Egypt and an ReNew Power have signed a MoU to construct a green hydrogen factory in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
  • The MoU states that Indian ReNew Power Private Limited will invest $8 billion to construct a facility that will create 20,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
  • ReNew Power and the Egyptian government signed a preliminary deal to invest up to $8 billion to create green hydrogen.

 

4) Zimbabwe launches gold coins as legal tender to tackle inflation

  • Zimbabwe’s central bank has launched gold coins to tackle the soaring inflation in the country.
  • The coin is called “Mosi-oa-Tunya” which refers to Victoria Falls in the local Tonga language.
  • The coins will have liquid asset status so that they could be easily converted to cash and locally and internationally tradable.
  • The cost of one coin was $1,824 at the time of launch.

 

5) Govt approves signing of guarantees for hosting FIFA U-17 Women’s WC

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of guarantees for hosting the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in India.
  • The tournament is scheduled to be held across 3 cities Bhubaneswar, Goa & Mumbai – from October 11 to 30, 2022.
  • It will be the seventh edition of the tournament.
  • It will be the first time that India host a FIFA women’s football tournament.

 

6) 22nd Commonwealth Games kicks off at Birmingham in UK

  • The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games kicked off at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
  • PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh were India’s flag-bearers at the parade of the CWG opening ceremony.
  • A total of 54 nations are participating in this sports extravaganza and 6,500 athletes will compete in 280 medal events.
  • The event will be held till the 8th of August.

 

7) Tamil Nadu government rolls out ‘Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme’

  • Tamil Nadu government has issued an order to implement the first phase of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme at 1,545 government primary schools.
  • It will benefit over 1.14 lakh children in Classes I-V during 2022-23.
  • The cost would be Rs. 33.56 crores.
  • Every student is to be provided a 150-500 gram breakfast with sambar with vegetables. On two days, the breakfast will be made of millets.

 

8) PM Modi to launch India’s first international gold exchange

  • On 29 July 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first International Bullion Exchange – International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) in the GIFT city (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City).
  • IIBX is India’s first International Bullion Exchange set up at the GIFT City, Gandhinagar.
  • IIBX is promoted by five market institutional investor’s i.e., CDSL, India INX, NSDL, NSE and MCX.

 

9) PM Modi declares 44th Chess Olympiad open in Chennai

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 44th Chess Olympiad at Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
  • The Olympiad torch which crossed the 75 iconic cities of the Country was brought to the Stadium by five-time world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand.
  • 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 is being organised in Tamil Nadu from July 28 to August 10.

 

10) PM Modi lays foundation stone of IFSCA HQ in Gandhinagar

  • PM Narendra Modi on 29 July 2022 laid the foundation stone of the Headquarters building of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), at the GIFT city in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
  • IFSCA was established by the Govt of India to develop and regulate international financial services centres in the country.
  • It was established in April 2020.

 

11) Singapore emerges as the top country with highest FDI in India in FY22

  • Singapore, the US, Mauritius, the Netherlands and Switzerland have emerged as the top 5 countries for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows into India in FY2021-22.
  • Singapore has emerged as the top sourcing nation with a contribution of 27.01 per cent.
  • While among the states, Karnataka and Maharashtra emerged as the top two states in receiving the highest FDI for FY 2021-22.

 

12) Gujarat becomes first state to launch semiconductor policy

  • The Gujarat government on 27 July 2022 announced a dedicated ‘Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27.
  • With this, Gujarat has become the first state in the country to have a dedicated semiconductor policy.
  • This new policy offers a slew of incentives and subsidies to manufacture semiconductors.
  • The policy was announced by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel.

 

13) Asia Cup 2022 shifted out of Sri Lanka to United Arab Emirates

  • The Asian Cricket Council on 29 July 2022 announced that Asia Cup 2022 has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates from Sri Lanka due to the political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
  • The Asia Cup 2022 is the 15th edition of the tournament & will be played between August 27-September 11, 2022.
  • A total of 6 teams will participate in the tournament.

14) MoU signed by ANC and AAI to boost inter-island connectivity

  • An MoU was signed by Andaman Nicobar Command (ANC) & Airport Authority of India (AAI) in Port Blair on 28 July 2022 to boost inter-island connectivity under Udaan Scheme.
  • As per the MoU, naval airfields at Shibpur (in Diglipur) in North Andaman and in Campbell Bay will be utilized for civil operations.
  • Passenger flights will connect Port Blair directly to Diglipur and Campbell Bay.
