1) World Hepatitis Day: 28 July
- World Hepatitis Day is observed each 0 year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe pain.
- The 63rd World Health Assembly in May 2010 declared July 28 to celebrate the day in honour of Nobel Laureate Baruch Samuel Blumberg, discoverer of the hepatitis B virus.
- The theme for the year 2023 is “One Life, One Liver,'”.
2) Prime Minister inaugurates Six EMRSS in Rajasthan
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated 6 Eklavya Model Residential Schools located in districts of Udaipur(2), Banswara(2), Partapgarh(1) and Dungarpur(1) in Rajasthan.
- 2880 tribal students half of which will be girls will benefit with the construction of these schools.
- In Rajasthan total 31 schools have been sanctioned for year 2022-23 and 8 schools previously in year 2013-14.
3) Ruchira Kamboj assumes chair of 62nd Session of Social Development
- Ruchira Kamboj, India’s permanent ambassador to the UN, has assumed the chair of the 62nd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD).
- This is the first time since 1975 that India has held this esteemed position within the Commission for Social Development.
- The central theme for the 62nd session is “Fostering Social Development and Social Justice through Social Policies”.
4) Bhutan announces successful elimination of rubella
- Bhutan has successfully eliminated rubella, a highly contagious disease that can cause severe complications for pregnant women and irreversible birth defects in newborns.
- The World Health Organization recognized Bhutan’s efforts to tackle rubella.
- Bhutan’s targeted vaccination campaigns and awareness programs have reached even the most remote and isolated communities.

6) Rajya Sabha passes Cinematography (Amendment) Bill 2023
- The Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023 has been passed by the Rajya Sabha.
- The Bill addresses the issue of film piracy by the transmission of unauthorized copies on the internet.
- The Bill empowers to sanction the film with a separate certificate for its exhibition on television and other media.
- The U/A category is substituted with 3 categories based on age: UA 7+, UA 13+, or UA 16+.
7) Sports Min inaugurates Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship
- Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023 in India for the first time.
- More than 30 Indian weightlifters are participating including Khelo India Athletes who won 61 medals at the Weightlifting Commonwealth Championships.
- Over 15 nations from the Asian region are participating in the event.
8) Japan’s population fell by more than 8,00,000 in 2022
- Japan’s population has fallen by over 800,000 in the last year, marking the 14th consecutive year of contraction.
- The number of Japanese residents shrank by over 800,000, while the number of foreign residents rose by over 10%.
- Japan has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, with nearly one in 1,500 people reaching age 100 or older in 2020.
9) Adani Transmission renames itself as Adani Energy Solutions
- Adani Transmission Ltd has renamed itself to Adani Energy Solutions Limited with immediate effect.
- Adani Energy Solutions, erstwhile Adani Transmission, is the country’s largest private transmission company, with a presence across 14 states.
10) India-US trade likely to rise 60 pc to USD 300 bn by 2026-27: PHDCCI
- The trade between India and the US is likely to touch USD 300 billion in 2026-27 from USD 188 billion in 2022-23, with about 60 per cent rise in value, according to a report by industry body PHDCCI.
- The volume of exports from India to the US has increased from USD 82 billion to USD 111 billion.
- The volume of imports from India to the US has increased from USD 58 billion to USD 76 billion.
