1) Indian Cuisine Ranked Fifth in the list of best Cuisines of the World

  • According to Taste Atlas Awards announced in December 2022, India ranks fifth on the list of best cuisines in the world for 2022.
  • While the top spot has been secured by Italy, Greece is a close second, followed by Spain and Japan.
  • However, among the world’s best ‘traditional’ dishes, Shahi Paneer from India made it under the top 50 ranking at the 28th spot.

 

2) England 1966 Football World Cup winner George Cohen passes away

  • England’s 1966 World Cup-winning right back George Cohen died aged 83 on 23 December 2022.
  • He scored six league goals in his 459 appearances between 1956 and 1969.
  • England claims their first World Cup title with a 4-2 victory over West Germany in 1966.
  • Until 1967, Cohen represented England in 37 matches.
  • He also served as vice-captain of Sir Alf Ramsey for the match against West Germany.

4) Amed Forces to deploy ‘Pralay Missiles’ along Pakistan, China border

  • It is a surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile developed by the DRDO for battlefield use.
  • It has a range of 150 to 500 km.
  • It is able to perform mid-air maneuvers using maneuverable reentry vehicle (MaRV) to defeat anti-ballistic missile (ABM) interceptors.
  • In Dec 2021, DRDO conducted the first test of Pralay from Abdul Kalam Island.
  • It carries 350 kg to 700 kg high explosives.

 

5) APJ Abdul Kalam Island

  • Abdul Kalam Island, formerly known as Wheeler Island, is an island off the coast of Odisha, India.
  • On 4 September 2015, the island was renamed to honour the late Indian president, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
  • The Integrated Test Range missile testing facility is located on the island, and serves as the test facility for most of India’s missiles such as the Akash, Agni, Astra, BrahMos, etc.

 

6) Indian archers tops the Archery Asia Cup 2022 stage 3 event table

  • Indian archers topped the Archery Asia Cup 2022 stage 3 held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates from 20 to 25 December 2022.
  • India won 10 medals; five golds, three silvers and two bronze.
  • Seven of India’s 10 medals at the Archery Asia Cup 2022 stage 3 were won by compound archers.
  • Asian Archery Championships began in 1980 and it was first hosted in India.

 

7) India to become 3rd largest economy in the world by 2037: CEBR report

  • UK based Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) predicted in December 2022 that India will become the third-largest economy by 2037.
  • Its annual report titled ‘World Economic League Table’ tracks macroeconomic developments globally.
  • It expects the Indian economy to grow by 6.8% in 2022-23.
  • In the next 5 years, India’s annual economic growth is expected to average 6.4%.

 

8) Kerala’s Dharmadam becomes 1st complete library constituency in India

  • The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s constituency Dharmadam has become the first complete library constituency in India in December 2022.
  • Kerala which was the first state to achieve 100% literacy status in India is also the only state in India that has a library in every village.
  • Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker of Kerala is known as the Father of the Library Movement in India.

 

9) Losar Festival celebrated in Ladakh to mark the Ladakhi New Year

  • Losar Festival was celebrated in Ladakh on 24 December 2022 to mark the Ladakhi New Year.
  • The Losar festivities continue for nine more days from the new year with the offering of prayers and songs in honor of Ibex and the pilgrimage of Mount Kailash.
  • Khura and Kabse are served to the guests on this occasion.
  • Other Famous Festivals in Ladakh are Hemis Tsechu, Saka Dawa, Sindhu Darshan, etc.
