1) Google Celebrated its 25th Birthday

  • In August 1998, Google Inc. received its official birth certificate in the form of a $100,000 check from Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems
  • Google started as ‘BackRub’ in a Stanford University dorm room.
  • Larry Page and Sergey Brin were the two bright minds behind the company’s success
  • They started with a vision to make all the information on the World Wide Web very accessible

 

2) Govt extends export benefits under RoDTEP scheme till June 2024

  • The government has extended export benefits under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme for one more year till June 2024.
  • The Scheme for RoDTEP provides for refund of taxes, duties and levies that are incurred by exporters in the process of manufacturing and distribution of goods.
  • The scheme is operational since September 2021.

 

3) Leander Paes, 1st Asian man nominated as player to Tennis Hall of Fame

  • Leander Paes is the first Asian man to be nominated for the International Tennis Hall of Fame in the player category.
  • He was one of the six nominees announced for the Class of 2024.
  • He will be competing with Cara Black, Ana Ivanovic, Carlos Moya, Daniel Nestor and Flavia Pennetta in the Player Category.
  • Li Na became the first Asian player to get nominated to the ITHF in 2019.

 

4) UPI transactions surged to 9.3 billion in June 2023: Worldline report

  • UPI transactions in India increased by 62% in H1 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 9.3 billion in June 2023, according to a report by Worldline.
  • Person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions accounted for approximately 56.1% of the total UPI transactions conducted between Jan & June 2023.
  • Top 3 states with the highest number of transactions were Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

6) Govt extends AFSPA in parts of Arunachal, Nagaland for six months

  • The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, under which an area is declared as “disturbed” for the convenience of security forces, was on 26 September 2023, extended in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
  • The AFSPA gives armed forces personnel, operating in disturbed areas, sweeping powers to search, arrest.
  • The AFSPA has been in force in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for many years.

 

7) Amit Shah chairs 31st meeting of Northern Zonal Council at Amritsar

  • The Northern Zonal Council, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, held its 31st meeting in Amritsar on 26 September 2023.
  • The Northern region, which falls under the council’s purview, produces more than 35% of India’s food grains.
  • The council discussed issues such as malnutrition, school dropouts, and the cooperative movement in India.

 

8) REC signs MoU with PNB to co-finance infrastructure projects

  • REC Limited and Punjab National Bank have signed an MoU to explore funding possibilities in Power and Infrastructure & Logistics sectors.
  • The consortium arrangement will co-finance loans worth Rs. 55,000 crores over the next three years.
  • The partnership between REC and PNB is expected to boost funding opportunities in the Power and Infrastructure & Logistics sectors.

  • UP govt names women beat officers as Shakti Didis in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The new phase of ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign will begin from Sharadiya Navratri.
  • The campaign aims to ensure the safety, respect, and self-reliance of women in the state.
  • The focus of this phase will be on ‘Shakti Didis’, or female beat officers, who will be accompanied by local personnel from various departments.

  • Union govt organised ‘SHAKTI-2023’, a mega national event that was held at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu on September 26, 2023.
  • The theme of the event was “Women in Technological Advances and Social Upliftment.”

  • The event focused on the role of women in technological advances.

  • Dr Mansukh Mandaviya presided over the valedictory session of Arogya Manthan 2023, celebrating the completion of 5 years of Ayushman Bharat PMJAY and two years of Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission.
  • Assam, Nagaland, & Jammu & Kashmir awarded for “Highest Ayushman Card Creation” under AB-PMJAY.
  • Andhra Pradesh was awarded as the “Top State in Linking Health Records with ABHA” under ABDM.

 

12) Kotak MF launches investor education program in partnership with CBSE

  • Kotak Mutual Fund has partnered with CBSE to launch ‘Seekho Paiso ki Bhasha’, an investor education program aimed at empowering teachers and promoting financial literacy in India.
  • The program will be held in over 100 locations and aims to reach around 75000 CBSE teachers, with a focus on empowering women educators.
  • Kotak Mutual Fund plans to conduct around 1000 financial literacy programs.

 

13) World Tourism Day: 27 September

  • World Tourism Day is annually celebrated on 27 September to highlight the importance of tourism around the globe.
  • Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27.
  • According to the UNWTO, the theme for the World Tourism Day 2023 –‘Tourism and green investment.

 

14) RBI deputy governor M. Rajeshwar Rao gets one-year term extension

  • The Central government has extended the term of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor M Rajeshwar Rao for a period of one year.
  • Rao was appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank in October 2020 for a period of three years.
  • Prior to his appointment, he was the chief general manager of the financial markets operations department.

 

15) Union MoS attends “South-South Knowledge Sharing Series” by World Bank

  • Union Minister of State (MoS) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar participated in a virtual conference organized by the World Bank known as the “South-South Knowledge Sharing Series.”
  • The conference’s theme was “Digital Public Infrastructure: The India Story” and focused on the potential of DPIs to serve as a model for African nations.
