History: 27th February
- World NGO Day 2024 is observed on the 27th of February 2024.
- World NGO Day was originally founded in 2009 by Marcis Liors Skadmanis, a social entrepreneur.
- However, it was observed for the first time on February 27, 2014.
- It’s a day set aside to honor all non-governmental and nonprofit organizations, recognizing their impact on the world.
- In 2019, Pakistan Air Force shot down Indian fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthman in POK and captured him in retaliation to the Balakot air strike.
1) Largest Solar Battery Project
- The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has commissioned India’s largest solar-battery energy storage system (BESS) in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.
- Capacity: 40 MW / 120 MWh BESS, Solar PV Plant Capacity: 152.325 MW. This large-scale integration of solar and battery storage represents a pioneering leap in renewable energy generation and utilization in India.
- The project addresses peak energy demand by storing solar energy during the day and releasing it during evening hours, ensuring grid stability and reliability.
2) Consumer Expenditure Survey
- NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam has said that the latest consumer expenditure survey indicates that poverty has come down to five percent in the country and people are becoming prosperous both in rural and urban areas.
- Mr Subrahmanyam said, the long-awaited survey has brought out many things and with data on household consumption, the status of poverty can be assessed in the country and the success of the poverty alleviation measures can be known.
- Citing the survey data, he said, the increase in consumption both in rural and urban areas is about 2.5 times.
3) Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
- Prime Minister will visit the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram and will inaugurate three important space infrastructure projects worth about 1800 crore rupees.
- Modi’s vision to reform the country’s Space sector to realise its full potential, and his commitment to enhancing technical and R&D capability in the sector will get a boost as three important space infrastructure projects will be inaugurated during his visit to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.
- The projects include the PSLV Integration Facility (PIF) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota; the new ‘Semi-cryogenics Integrated Engine and Stage Test facility’ at ISRO Propulsion Complex at Mahendragiri; and ‘Trisonic Wind Tunnel’ at VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram.
4) India’s 1st Septic Tank Cleaning Robot
- India’s first septic tank/manhole cleaning robot, offering an end-to-end solution to eliminate manual scavenging, is strengthening the swachhata abhiyan in different corners of the country.
- The technology called Homosep Atom developed by the startup incubated in the Department of Science and Technology (DST)-Technology Business Incubator (TBI) of IIT Madras, solves manual cleaning methods and transforms it to robotic cleaning methods.
- The startup called Solinas, which developed this affordable robotic solution integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) to inspect, clean, and manage confined space for sanitation purposes. It helped clean up manhole blockages and reduced sewer overflows in Madurai.
5) Goodfellow Classic squash
- Indian Squash player Abhay Singh clinched the Goodfellow Classic PSA Challenger Tour Title in Toronto, Canada.
- In the finals, he defeated Elliott Morris Devred of Wales by 3-0. With this win, the Asian Games Gold medalist has won his eighth PSA World Tour title.
- In a social media post, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur congratulated Abhay for his achievement and called his performance remarkable, throughout the tournament.
6) Dubai Launches 5-Year Multiple Entry Visa for Indian Tourists to Boost Travel and Economic Relations
- In a bid to promote economic collaborations and encourage tourism and business ties, Dubai has introduced a five-year multiple-entry visa for Indian tourists.
- The introduction of the multiple-entry visa aims to strengthen the relationship between Dubai and India, making Dubai a more accessible and appealing destination for Indian nationals.
Key Highlights :
- According to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the visa issued within 2 to 5 working days, allows a 90-day stay, extendable once for a similar period, with a total stay not exceeding 180 days in a year.
- India, with a remarkable 34% year-on-year growth, maintains its position as the leading source market for Dubai.
7) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Initiates ‘Savera’ Initiative for Early Detection of Rising Breast Cancer Cases in Women
- Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal, inaugurated the ‘Savera’ program initiated by the Medanta Foundation in collaboration with the Health Department in Gurugram, aimed at early detection and prevention of breast cancer, a growing concern among women.
- This groundbreaking initiative marks the first of its kind in the country, focusing on detecting breast cancer in its early stages among women.
Key Highlights :
- In its initial phase, the program will be launched at the Civil Hospital in Sector-10 of Gurugram, the Polyclinic in Sector-31, and the Primary Health Center in Wazirabad.
- The program capitalizes on the naturally heightened tactile sensitivity possessed by visually impaired individuals.
- The launch of Savera coincides with the establishment of the National Cancer Institute at AIIMS Jhajjar, equipped with 1,000 beds.
8) 5th edition of the India-Japan joint exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ kicks off in Rajasthan
- The 5th edition of Joint Military Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ between the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self Defence Force commenced at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.
- The Exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 25th February to 9th March 2024.
- Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ is an annual exercise and conducted alternatively in India and Japan.
9) IIT Guwahati Establishes India’s Largest Drone Pilot Training Organization
- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has launched the largest Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) in India in collaboration with EduRade, with the aim of promoting the advancement of drone technology.
Key Highlights :
- Infrastructure and Capacity: The Pilot Training Organisation spans across 18 acres and has the capability to fly 9 medium-class drones simultaneously.
10) Nutritional Status Of Adolescent Girls
- Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of AYUSH signed an MOU in New Delhi to achieve improvement in the nutritional status of adolescent girls in five Utkarsh Districts.
- The event which was chaired by Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was part of a wider collaboration between the ministries to leverage traditional knowledge, promotion of wellness through joint yoga protocols, and promote diet diversity through the consumption of locally grown wholesome foods.
