1) CCEA approves policy amendment exempting wheat flour from export ban

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval to amend the policy which exempts wheat flour from export ban.
  • This has been done to curb the rising prices of wheat flour and ensure food security for the most vulnerable sections of society.
  • Wheat flour exports from India registered a growth of 200% during April to July 2022 compared to the corresponding period in 2021.

 

2) International Dog Day: 26 August

  • International Dog Day is celebrated on 26 August every year.
  • It was first celebrated in 2004 by animal welfare activist and pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige.
  • Ms Paige chose the date of August 26 in particular as it was on this date that the activist’s family adopted their first dog “Sheltie” from the local animal shelter.
  • She is the founder of National Wildlife Day as well.

 

3) In a first, Supreme Court live streams proceeding of CJI’s court

  • For the first time since its inception, the Supreme Court on 26 August 2022 live streamed proceedings.
  • The proceeding of the bench headed by CJI N V Ramana will be live streamed through a webcast portal.
  • Supreme Court in 2018 had allowed live streaming of court proceedings of cases of constitutional and national importance.

 

4) India-Bangladesh Joint River Commission meeting held in Delhi

  • The 38th Meeting of Ministerial level Joint Rivers Commission, JRC, of India and Bangladesh was held in New Delhi on 25 August 2022.
  • The two sides finalized the text of MoU on ‘Interim Water Sharing of Kushiyara river!
  • Both sides also welcomed finalization of the design and location of the water intake point on the Feni River to meet the drinking water needs of Sabroom town in Tripura.

 

5) NMCG, UP Jal Nigam, Vishvaraj Environment sign tripartite agreement

  • A tripartite agreement has been signed between the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam, and Vishvaraj Environment.
  • It has been signed for the development of sewage treatment plants for Agra under hybrid annuity mode or (HAM).
  • The agreement will take care of the existing sewage problems which cause pollution in the Yamuna.

 

6) Asia Cup kicks off in Dubai on 27 August

  • The Asia Cup 2022 will kick off on 27 August in Dubai with a match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
  • Defending champion India will kick-start its campaign with a match against Pakistan on 28th August 2022.
  • Earlier, Asia Cup was set to take place in Sri Lanka but due to the economic crisis there, it was shifted to UAE.
  • It will be the 15th edition of the Asia Cup cricket tournament.

 

7) Haridwar declared best aspirational district in India

  • The NITI Aayog has declared Haridwar as the best aspirational district in India.
  • It has secured the first rank in basic infrastructure theme and thus has become entitled to receive an additional allocation of 3 crores from the Central Govt.
  • The aspirational Districts Programme was launched in 2018.
  • It aims to effectively transform the 112 most under-developed districts across the country.

 

8) World Water Week: August 23 to September 1

  • World Water Week is an annual conference held in the last week of August every year.
  • In 2022, the event is being held from August 23 to September 1.
  • It aims to draw the attention of the world to the water crisis and the sustainable use of water.
  • It is organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute.
  • It was first held in 1991.
  • 2022 theme: ‘Seeing the Unseen: The Value of Water’

 

9) Arjun Erigaisi wins Abu Dhabi Masters Chess tournament

  • Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi on 25 August 2022 won the 28th Abu Dhabi Masters Chess tournament.
  • He defeated Spain’s David Anton Guijarro in the ninth and final round with 7.5 points.
  • Erigaisi is currently at number three in India. on the live rating list.
  • Erigaisi hails from Telangana & is the 54th. grandmaster from India.
  • In 2018, he became the first grandmaster from Telangana state.

 

10) Anang Tal lake declared monument of national importance

  • The Anang Tal lake in South Delhi has been declared a monument of national importance.
  • Anang Tal Lake dates back to 1,060 AD.
  • It was built by the 11th Century Tomar king Anang Pal Tomar.
  • The Monuments of National Importance are designated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
  • Once designated, the ASI restricts construction activity in the site’s vicinity.
