1) India drops 8 ranks in WEF’s Travel & Tourism Development Index
- The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Travel & Tourism Development Index which comprises 117 countries, has been released.
- Japan, the United States, Spain, France and Germany are at the top of the list.
- India, with a score of 4.2, ranks 54th, eight lower than in 2019.
- Data shows that India is the top scorer in South Asia.
2) NHA launches revamped ABHA mobile application
- The National Health Authority has announced the launch of a revamped Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) mobile app.
- It has been launched under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
- The application enables an individual to create an ABHA address (username@abdm), an easy-to-remember username that can be linked with the 14-digit randomly generated ABHA number.
3) World Economic Forum launches alliance or India’s climate action
- The World Economic Forum (WEF) has launched the India chapter of the Alliance of CEO Climate Action Leaders to supercharge India’s climate action and decarbonization efforts.
- A collaboration between the management consultancy Kearney and the Indian think-tank Observer Research Foundation, the alliance will serve as a high-level platform to support business leaders.
4) Gujarat government scraps Par-Tapi-Narmada river-linking project
- The Gujarat government cancelled an ambitious river-link project after continuous protest from the tribals who feared that they might be displaced.
- The river link project was announced in this year’s financial budget by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

5) Tedros Ghebreyesus re-elected as head of World Health Organization
- The World Health Organization’s (WHO) members, on May 24, re-elected Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as Director-General by a strong majority for another five years.
- Tedros, a former government minister from Ethiopia, is the first African to lead the agency and the only director-general not qualified as a medical doctor.

6) Samsung to invest $356 billion over five years in strategic sector
- Samsung Group will invest $356 billion in the next five years to accelerate growth in semiconductors, biopharmaceutical, and other next-generation technologies.
- 80% of investments will be made in South Korea.
- The announcement includes a 240 trillion won investment pledge made in August 2021.
- Samsung did not include electric vehicle batteries as a future growth engine in the announcement.
7) Project WARDEC to be India’s first Al-run wargame centre
- The Army Training Command signed an MoU with Gandhinagar-based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) to develop a ‘Wargame Research and Development Centre’ in New Delhi.
- The project, which has been given a prototype name ‘WARDEC, will be a first-of-its-kind simulation-based training centre in India that will use artificial intelligence to design virtual reality wargames.

8) NSDL launches ‘Market ka Eklavya – Express’ in 75 cities
- India’s largest depository, National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) has launched ‘Market ka Eklavya – Express!
- It is an online investment awareness program for students that will be conducted in 8 different languages including Hindi.
- The program would serve as a beginner’s guide for investing for the youth.
- It will be launched across 75 cities.
9) Indian Railways, IIT Madras to Develop Country’s First Hyperloop
- The Ministry of Railways will collaborate with IIT Madras for the development of an “indigenous” Hyperloop system.
- Indian Railways will extend financial support of Rs. 8.34 cr to IIT Madras for this project.
- Hyperloop works on a technology that would use magnetic levitation in low-pressure tubes to transport people and goods at airplane-like speeds.

10) Haryana beat Jharkhand to win Hockey India Sub-Junior Championship
- Hockey Haryana emerged winner of the Hockey India sub-junior women’s national championship 2022 after defeating Hockey Jharkhand 2-0 in the final in Imphal on 22 May 2022.
- UP Hockey defeated MP Hockey 3-0 to secure third place in the tournament.
- Pushpanjali Sonkar, Manisha Patel, and Purnima Yadav scored a goal each to help Uttar Pradesh Hockey seal third place.
11) Sri Lanka seeks USD 500-million loan from India
- The Sri Lankan Cabinet has approved seeking a 500 million dollar loan from the Exim Bank of India.
- It is for the purchase of petroleum products amid a severe foreign exchange crisis in the island nation.
- Sri Lanka had already received 500 million dollars from the Exim Bank of India and another 200 million from the State Bank of India for oil purchases.

12) Fasal signs MoU with IMD for research collaboration
- Agritech firm Fasal has signed an MoU with the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
- Both will work closely on exchange of hourly short-range models for rainfall probability, rainfall amount, etc.
- The regions that are in the purview of this agreement for R&D include: five districts in Karnataka, five districts in Maharashtra, one district in Telangana and two districts in Andhra Pradesh.
13) Music Academy announces Sangita Kalanidhi awards for three years
- The Music Academy on May 22 announced Sangita Kalanidhi award winners for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022.
- Noted vocalist Neyveli R. Santhanagopalan – 2020
- Mridhangam maestro Tiruvarur Baktavatsalam – 2021
- Violinists Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & GJR Vijayalakshmi – 2022
- It is considered the highest award in the field of Carnatic music.
- The award is conferred by the Madras Music Academy.
14) Commonwealth Day: May 24
- Commonwealth Day is celebrated by the collection of 54 commonwealth countries every year.
- It is marked on the second Monday of March in most of these countries but in India and a few more, it is observed on May 24.
- The theme for Commonwealth Day 2022 is ‘Delivering a Common Future’
- This day is celebrated to understand the Commonwealth and its shared values of peace, equality, and democracy.
15) RBI sets up 6-member committee to review customer service standards
- The Reserve Bank of India has set up a six-member committee headed by former Deputy Governor, B. P. Kanungo, to review customer service standards in entities regulated by it.
- The central bank said the committee will submit its report within three months from the date of its first meeting.

16) 4th edition of Shirui Lily Festival 2022 to begin from May 25
- In Manipur, the 4th Edition of State-Level Shirui Lily Festival 2022 will begin from May 25.
- This annual festival is organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur in an aim to create and raise awareness on Shirui Lily flower which is also the State Flower of Manipur.
- The flower is found in Ukhrul district of Manipur only and cannot be replanted anywhere in the world.
17) India joins US’s Indo Pacific economic plan
- India and 12 countries led by the US, on 23rd May, launched the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) that aims to strengthen economic partnership among participating countries.
- The IPEF is launched to counter China’s economic dominance.
- The 13 initial partner countries – together account for 40 per cent of world GDP.
18) Shikhar Dhawan becomes first player to hit 700 fours in IPL
- Punjab Kings opening batter Shikhar Dhawan has become the first player to hit 700 fours in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
- Dhawan reached this feat during the last league stage match of IPL 2022, between PBKS and Sunrisers Hyderabad, on 22 May 2022.
- He is followed by David Warner and Virat Kohli, with 577 and 576 fours, respectively.
