  • World Turtle Day 2025: Observed on 23 May, theme – “Dancing Turtles Rock!”
    • Started in 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue.
    • Turtles are protected under Schedule I of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
    • IUCN Status:
      • Olive Ridley, Leatherback, Loggerhead– Vulnerable
      • Green Turtle– Endangered
      • Hawksbill– Critically Endangered

 

2. Obituary

  • Saroj Ghose (1936–2025)passed away on 17 May 2025 in Seattle, USA at age 89.
    • Pioneer of India’s science museum movement.
    • Founding Director General of NCSM (1979–1997).
    • Contributed to Parliament MuseumRashtrapati Bhavan Museum, and Town Hall Museum Kolkata.
    • Body donated to Washington University.

 

3. Government Schemes & Initiatives

  • ESI Scheme(March 2025):
    • 33 lakhnew employees registered.
    • 49%aged ≤25 years.
    • 61 lakhfemale employees; 100 transgender employees.
    • 31,514new establishments added.
  • Anti-Substance Drive (May 31–June 26, 2025):
    • Tobacco- and drug-free campuses enforcement.
