DAILY DOSE 24TH JUNE CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) Indian women’s hockey team finishes 3rd in FIH Pro League
- The Indian women’s hockey team outclassed USA 4-0 in the second-leg match to finish third in its debut season at the FIH Pro League in Rotterdam on 22 June 2022.
- The Indians had earlier defeated USA 4-2 in the first match of the double header on 21 June 2022.
- Argentina had already won the title with Netherlands finishing second.
2) ISRO successfully launches India’s Communication satellite GSAT-24
- ISRO successfully launched communication satellite GSAT-24 from Kourou in French Guiana on 23 June 2022.
- GSAT-24, built by ISRO for NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), was launched by French company Arianespace.
- GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite weighing 4180 kg with pan-India coverage for meeting DTH application needs.
3) Gujarat CM launches 17th ‘Shala Praveshotsav’
- Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on 23 June 2022 launched the 17th ‘Shala Praveshotsav, the drive to enrol students in primary schools in the state.
- It is a three-day enrolment drive which began from Memadpur primary school in Vadgam taluka of Banaskantha district.
- In the three-day campaign, the state officials will visit different schools in the state and enrol children in Class 1.
4) Odisha bags first prize in National MSME Award 2022
- The Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Department of Odisha has been awarded first prize in the National MSME Award 2022.
- It has been awarded in the category of “States/ UTS for outstanding contribution in the promotion and development of MSME Sector”
- Bihar and Haryana have bagged the second and third positions respectively.
- The National MSME Awards were instituted in 1983.
5) IPS officer Dinkar Gupta appointed as NIA chief
- Dinkar Gupta, a 1987-batch IPS officer and former chief of Punjab Police, has been appointed as Director-General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
- The Appointments Committee has approved the appointment of Gupta as the NIA chief till March 31, 2024.
- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is the primary counter-terrorist task force of India.
- NIA founded in – 2009
6) IAF to conduct its first Capstone Seminar
- The Indian Air Force will conduct the 1st Warfare & Aerospace Strategy Program (WASP) culminating with a Capstone Seminar at Air Force Auditorium, New Delhi on 24 Jun 2022.
- The seminar will be conducted under the aegis of College of Air Warfare & Centre for Air Power Studies.
- This seminar aims to showcase the learning objectives of WASP.
7) Vienna tops the 2022 ‘most liveable city’ index
- Austrian capital Vienna has been ranked as the world’s most liveable city in the report ‘Global Liveability Index 2022!
- Vienna replaced New Zealand’s Auckland city as the most liveable city.
- Delhi ranked 140th, while Mumbai got 141st rank.
- Syrian capital Damascus ranked at the bottom of the list.
- ‘Global Liveability Ranking’ is published annually by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
8) PM Modi unveils Vanijya Bhawan, launches NIRYAT portal
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 June 2022 launched new portal NIRYAT (National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade).
- IRYAT is developed as a one-stop platform for the stakeholders to get all the necessary information related to India’s foreign trade.
- He launched it while Inaugurating the new premises of Ministry of Commerce and Industry – ‘Vanijya Bhawan!
9) World Bank sanctions $245-million loan to Indian Railways
- The World Bank has approved a $245 million loan to modernise the freight and logistics infrastructure of Indian Railways.
- The Rail Logistics project will help India shift more traffic from road to rail, making transport more efficient.
- The loan from the World Bank has a maturity of 22 years, including a grace period of seven years.

10) World Health Network declares Monkeypox a pandemic
- With 3,417 confirmed Monkeypox cases reported across 58 countries, World Health Network (WHN) has declared the monkeypox outbreak a pandemic,
- It is a viral infection that originated in rodents and primates and is transmitted to people.
- Symptoms include fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes.
- Monkeypox is usually a self-limited disease with symptoms lasting from 2 to 4 weeks.
11) United Nations Public Service Day: 23 June
- The United Nations Public Service Day is observed on 23 June annually.
- On 20 December 2002, the UN General Assembly decided to observe 23 June as this day under the resolution 57/277.
- The theme for 2022 is “Building back better from COVID-19: Enhancing innovative partnerships to meet the Sustainable Development Goal.”
12) Droupadi Murmu, Yashwant Sinha nominated for Presidential elections
- Droupadi Murmu, a tribal leader from Odisha, has been named as the ruling National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate for the presidential election.
- Murmu, a former Jharkhand governor, will be the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post if she is elected.
- Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha has also been named as its joint nominee.
13) International Widows Day: 23 June
- Every year on June 23, International Widows Day is observed across the globe to shed light on the rights and social protection of widows.
- The day was introduced by the United Nations in 2011 to highlight the voices of widows.
- The day was first observed by the Loomba Foundation in 2005.
- On this day in 1954, founder Rajinder Paul Loomba’s mother Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba became a widow.

- AU Small Finance Bank has launched an innovative credit card.

15) World Bank approves additional $250 million for Gujarat
- The World Bank Board of Executive Directors have approved additional financing of $250 million for Outcomes for Accelerated Learning (GOAL).
- It is a program which aims to improve education results for children across the state of Gujarat.
- This financing will benefit an additional 3,000 schools that have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
