1) Indian drone start-up Garuda Aerospace to set up plant in Malaysia
- Chennai-based drone start-up Garuda Aerospace has partnered with Malaysian drone solution company, HIILSE Drones to set up its first aerospace plant in Malaysia.
- It would be set up at an investment of ₹115 crores.
- Founded in 2015 by Jayaprakash, Garuda Aerospace is a drone-as-a-service (DaaS) start-up.
- It designs and manufactures 30 different types of drones.
2) TCS bags deal from Aadhar Housing Finance
- TCS has bagged a deal to drive business process transformation at Aadhar Housing Finance.
- Aadhar Housing will be deploying the Tata group company’s lending and securitization platform for market expansion.
- The partnership with TCS is for an end-to-end business process transformation using the integrated and collaborative blockchain-based cloud platform.
3) World Rainforest Day: 22 June
- World Rainforest Day is observed annually on June 22.
- It is observed to highlight the importance of rainforests and raise awareness of the need for their conservation.
- The theme for 2022 is ‘The Time is Now!
- World Rainforest Day was first celebrated in 2017 by a Non-profitable organization named Rainforest Partnership.
4) International Olympic Day: 23 June
- International Olympic Day is celebrated every year on June 23.
- It is observed to commemorate the founding of the International Olympic Committee on 23 June 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin.
- The theme for 2022 is ‘Together, For a Peaceful World!
- The first-ever Olympic Day was celebrated on 23 June 1948.
- IOC headquarters: Lausanne.
5) South Korea launches first satellite with homegrown rocket
- South Korea conducted its first successful satellite launch using a domestically developed rocket ‘Nuri’ on 21 June 2022.
- It was South Korea’s second launch attempt of a Nuri rocket.
- The three-stage Nuri rocket weighs 200 tonnes and is 47.2 metres long.
- The launch made South Korea the world’s 10th nation to place a satellite into space with its own technology.
6) The book “Gautam Adani” to release in October 2022
- The biography of Gautam Adani, Adani Group chairman, and founder, will hit the stands in October 2022.
- It was announced by Penguin Random House (PRHI).
- Written by journalist-author RN Bhaskar, the book is titled “Gautam Adani: The Man Who Changed India”.
- Bhaskar is also the author of “Game India: Seven strategies that could steer India to wealth” (2019).
7) 19 single-use plastic items to be banned from July 1 in Delhi
- The Delhi Environment Department will ban 19 identified single-use plastic (SUP) items from July 1, 2022.
- These 19 identified invitation cards, cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 microns, stirrers, etc.
- The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has also asked the Sriram Institute of Industrial Research to conduct a survey to quantify plastic waste generation in Delhi.

8) Mongolia’s Khuvsgul lake added to UNESCO World Network
- Mongolia’s Khuvsgul Lake National Park has been added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO.
- Khuvsgul Lake is located in the northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul near the Russian border, holding nearly 70 percent of Mongolia’s fresh water, or 0.4 percent of the world’s total.
- A total of nine sites from Mongolia have so far been registered in the network.
9) World’s largest freshwater fish found in Cambodia
- A 300 kg stingray caught in the Mekong River in Cambodia is the biggest freshwater fish ever documented.
- It is 3.98 m long and 2.2 m wide.
- It unseated the previous record-holder, a 293kg Mekong giant catfish caught in Thailand in 2005.
- In the local language of Cambodia, the stingray fish is called “Boramy”, which means full moon.
10) NCW organizes workshop on ‘Gender Responsive Governance’
- The National Commission for Women (NCW) organized a workshop on ‘Gender Responsive Governance’ for elected women representatives (MLAs) under ‘She Is A Changemaker’ project.
- The three-day workshop is being organised in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh from June 22 to 24, 2022.
- The Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel participated as Chief Guest in the inaugural ceremony on 22 June 2022.
11) Renowned photojournalist R Raveendran passes away
- Well-known photojournalist R Raveendran. passed away in June 2022.
- Raveendran shot to limelight after he shot the picture of Goswami, a 20-year-student, who set himself on fire at the Deshbandhu College in south Delhi’s Kalkaji on 19 September 1990.
- His visual coverage of the Surat plague also earned him a lot of praise.
- His picture on Surat plague got into Time, Newsweek and Paris Match.
12) Indian Oil develops Surya Nutan – an indoor solar cooking system
- Indian Oil has developed an indoor solar cooking system – Surya Nutan.
- It collects energy from the sun and converts the sun’s energy into heat through a specially designed heating element.
- The product is rechargeable and suitable for four people.
- Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri observed the demonstrations of Surya Nutan on 22 June 2022 in New Delhi.
13) Indian women’s wrestling team wins Under-17 Asian Championship
- Indian women’s wrestling team has won five medals to claim the Under-17 Asian Championship title with a total of eight gold at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
- Ritika won gold in 43 kg, while Ahilaya Shinde got gold in 49 kg.
- India lifted the title with a total of 235 points from eight golds, one silver and one bronze.
- Japan was the runner-up with 143 points and Mongolia finished third with 138 points.
14) Delhi airport becomes India’s first to run entirely on renewable power
- Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport has become the first airport in the country to run entirely on hydro and solar power from June 2022.
- This is part of the airport’s goal to achieve the ‘Net Zero Carbon Emissions Airport’ target by the year 2030.
- In 2015, the Cochin International Airport in Kerala became the first airport in the world to run solely using solar energy.
15) Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy inaugurates ‘Jyotirgamaya’ festival
- Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy on 21 June 2022 inaugurated Jyotirgamaya – a festival showcasing the talent of unsung performers in New Delhi.
- Sangeet Natak Akademi organised this festival to showcase the talent of rare musical instruments from across the country, including street performers and train entertainers.
- It was organised on the occasion of World Music Day on 21 June 2022.
16) SEBI forms advisory committee on hybrid securities
- Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has set up an advisory committee on hybrid securities.
- The committee will advise SEBI on issues related to the development and regulation of primary and secondary markets of hybrid securities in the country.
- The 20-member committee will be chaired by K V Kamath, Chairperson of the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development.
