3) DCGI grants Emergency Use Authorization to Gennova’s covid booster

  • The Drug Control General of India (DCGI) has granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to an Omicron-specific booster vaccine called GEMCOVAC-OM.
  • The vaccine is mRNA-based and developed by Gennova Biopharmaceuticals using an indigenous technology under Mission COVID Suraksha.
  • GEMCOVAC-OM is a thermostable vaccine that does not require ultra-cold chain infrastructure for deployment pan India.

 

4) World Hydrography Day: 21 June

  • World Hydrography Day is observed on 21 June every year to increase public awareness about hydrography science.
  • The date was chosen by the United Nations in 2005 to honor the establishment of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).
  • The theme for 2023 is ‘Hydrography-Underpinning the Digital Twin of the Ocean’ which is in keeping with the development of virtual representation.”

 

5) International Yoga Day: 21 June

  • The 9th annual International Yoga Day is being celebrated on 21 June 2023.
  • The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
  • The theme for International Yoga Day 2023 is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which also represents “One Earth, One Family”.

 

6) Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra begins in Puri, Odisha

  • The Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2023, began on June 20, 2023.
  • The Ratha Yatra of Puri, popularly known as Ratha Jatra is the oldest and largest Hindu chariot festival.
  • It celebrates Lord Jagannath and his siblings annually, on the bright half of the lunar month of Ashadh (June-July).
  • The Yatra starts from the Puri temple and concludes at Shree Gundicha temple

 

7) NHAI launches ‘Knowledge Sharing Platform’ for development of Highways

  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a ‘Knowledge Sharing’ platform to share knowledge and insights related to road design, construction, and related fields.
  • The platform encourages sharing of best practices from around the world that can be uploaded on the platform.
  • The platform will help NHAI to collaborate with experts who want to share knowledge and insights.

 

8) India hosts the 18th Session of India – Iraq Joint Commission Meeting

  • India hosted the 18th Session of the India – Iraq Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi on 20 June 2023.
  • The Confederation of Indian Industry also organized a Business Roundtable on 19th June 2023, between the Business Leaders of both countries.
  • During the meeting, both countries agreed to move from a buyer-seller relation to an energy partnership covering investments, trade, and services.

 

9) Senior IAS officer Amit Agrawal assumes charge as CEO of UIDAI

  • Senior IAS officer Amit Agrawal assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 20 June 2023.
  • He is an officer of the 1993 batch IAS from the Chhattisgarh cadre.
  • Prior to joining UIDAI as CEO, he was an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity).

 

10) Trai unveils regulations for submarine cable landing stations in India

  • Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on 20 June 2023, issued the recommendations on ‘Licensing Framework and Regulatory Mechanism for Submarine Cable Landing in India’.
  • The recommendations address issues such as the need for Indian-flagged vessels for submarine cable operation and maintenance, domestic submarine cables, and clarity on terrestrial connectivity.

 

11) SBI MD Swaminathan Janakiraman appointed as RBI’s deputy governor

  • Union government, on 20 June 2023, appointed Swaminathan Janakiraman as a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for three years.
  • Janakiraman, currently the managing director of the State Bank of India, will succeed Mahesh Kumar Jain.
  • Mahesh K. Jain was appointed deputy governor in 2018.
  • RBI has three other deputy governors: T. Rabi Sankar, M. Rajeshwar Rao, and Michael Patra.
