1) GEM, CSC e-Governance India Pvt Ltd and Department of Posts sign MoU
- Government e-Marketplace, GeM, Common Service Centre e-governance India Private Limited and Department of Posts have signed an MoU.
- It has been signed for the engagement of last-mile buyers, sellers and service providers in public procurement.
- Nearly 4,50,000 Common Service Centers and around 1,50,000 Post Offices across the country will be trained.
2) Telangana CM felicitates Saalumarada Thimmakka
- Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao felicitated a 110-year-old Indian environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka on 18 May 2022.
- He also informed that an award from Thimmakka Green Foundation will be presented on her 111th birthday on June 28, 2022.
- She is also a Padma Shri recipient.
- She is noted for her work in planting 385 banyan trees along a 45 km stretch of highway.
3) Renowned lyricist of Bangladesh Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury passes away
- Renowned lyricist, veteran journalist and language movement activist of Bangladesh Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury passed away at the age of 88 in London on May 19.
- The song written by him inspired generations of Bangladeshis to fight for their mother tongue which ultimately led to their liberation in 1971.
- 21 February is observed as the ‘Language Martyrs’ Day’ in Bangladesh.
4) Skyroot successfully test fires ‘Vikram-1’ rocket stage
- Hyderabad-based start-up Skyroot Aerospace has successfully completed the full duration test-firing of its Vikram-1 rocket stage.
- Vikram-1 is India’s first-ever privately designed and developed rocket for commercial missions.
- It has three solid fuel-powered stages. The third stage of it has been named ‘Kalam-100’ after renowned Indian rocket scientist and former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
5) Tata Projects appoints Vinayak Pai as CEO, MD designate
- Infrastructure firm Tata Projects Ltd on May 18, announced the appointment of Vinayak Pai as its CEO and managing director designate.
- Pai has been recently inducted into the company’s board as executive director.
- Tata Projects is currently executing some of the most marquee projects across the country, including the new Parliament building.
6) S&P Cuts India’s Economic Growth Forecast To 7.3% for 2022-23
- S&P Global Ratings on Wednesday slashed India’s growth forecast to 7.3 per cent from 7.8 per cent for FY23 on rising inflationary pressure and longer-than-expected Russia-Ukraine war.
- S&P had in December last year pegged India’s GDP growth in 2022-23 fiscal, which began on April 1, 2022, at 7.8 per cent.
- S&P Global Inc. is an American corporation. headquartered in Manhattan, New York City.
7) 41st edition of Hunar Haat begins in Agra
- Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi inaugurated the 41st edition of Hunar Haat in Agra on May 19.
- Hunar Haat provides market exposure and employment opportunities to artisans, craftsmen and traditional culinary experts.
- More than 800 artisans and craftsmen from 32 states and Union Territories are participating in the 12-day ‘Hunar Haat’
8) HANSA-NG aircraft successfully completes Engine Relight test
- HANSA-NG 2 seater flying trainer aircraft has successfully completed in-flight engine relight test at DRDO’s Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) facility, Challakere on 17th May 2022.
- Flight test was carried out at an altitude of 7000-8000 feet with the speed range of 60 to 70 knots by Wg Cdr KV Prakash and Wg Cdr NDS Reddy, Test Pilots from Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE).
9) India’s Nikhat Zareen Wins Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championships
- India’s Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the 52kg category at the Women’s World Boxing Championships.
- She defeated Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the fly-weight final in Istanbul, Turkey on May 19.
- With this win, Nikhat becomes only the fifth Indian women’s boxer after Mary Kom Sarita Devi Jenny RL and Lekha KC to win a gold at the World Championships.
10) CCI clears Serum Institute Life Sciences-Biocon Biologics deal
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved a proposed deal involving Serum Institute Life Sciences, Covidshield Technologies, and Biocon Biologics.
- Once the deal is complete, Serum Institute Life Sciences Pvt Ltd will have about 15 percent stake in Biocon Biologics Ltd.
- Covidshield Technologies Pvt Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Serum Institute Life Sciences Private Limited.

11) B Govindarajan appointed as the new CEO Of Royal Enfield
- Eicher Motors, the parent company of Royal Enfield, has announced appointing B Govindarajan as the motorcycle brand’s Chief Executive Officer.
- In addition to being the CEO of Royal Enfield, Govindarajan will also serve as a Wholetime Director on the Board of Eicher Motors Limited (EML).
- Govindarajan has led the development & launch of several models at Royal Enfield.
12) Ruchi Soya acquires Patanjali Ayurved’s food business for Rs 690 crore
- Ruchi Soya will acquire the food business of Patanjali Ayurved for around Rs 690 crore.
- The name of Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd will be changed to Patanjali Foods Ltd after regulatory approvals.
- The acquired food business consists of 21 products including ghee, honey, spices, juices and flour.
- Ruchi Soya will pay an annual royalty to Patanjali Ayurved, estimated at 1% of the gross turnover.
13) C-DOT and Vodafone Idea Limited sign MoU
- Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and Vodafone Idea Limited signed an MoU on 17 May 2022.
- The signing of MOU will help both the organizations leverage each other’s expertise in their respective domains to develop and deploy IoT/M2M solutions in India.
- C-DOT is a premier telecom R&D organization under the Ministry of Communications.
14) PM Modi to participate in Quad Leaders’ Summit in Tokyo on May 24
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Tokyo on 24th May at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
- US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will participate in the summit.
- The Quad is a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan, and the USA.
15) Kerala to launch India’s first state-owned OTT platform
- India’s first state-owned OTT platform, CSPACE, will be launched by the Kerala government on November 1.
- It will offer film lovers an array of movies, short films and documentaries of their choice.
- The launch of the OTT platform will coincide with the state’s formation day (Kerala Piravi) on November 1.
- CPSACE is an initiative of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).
16) Third Thursday of May – Global Accessibility Awareness Day
- Global Accessibility Awareness Day is observed every year on the third Thursday of May.
- It is an awareness day focusing on digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people alive today who live with disabilities or impairments.
- Global Accessibility Awareness Day was launched in May 2012.
17) Karnataka to get AIIMS, Centre gives green signal to state’s request
- Union Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has given approval for establishing an All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Karnataka.
- It will help in boosting the Karnataka’s Health and Medical Education sector.
- The new institute will come up at Kyalasanahalli near Hennur Main road in Bengaluru.
