1) Qatar succesfully hosted FIFA World Cup 2022
- Qatar is a peninsular Arab country.
- Qatar became a British protectorate in 1916, and gained independence in 1971.
- In 2017, the total population of Qatar was 2.6 million, with 313,000 of them Qatari citizens and 2.3 million expatriates.
- The 2022 FIFA World Cup was held in Qatar in Dec 2022.

2) Argentina beat France to win FIFA World Cup 2022
- Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties to win their third World Cup, after 36 years, on 19 December 2022.
- Golden Ball was awarded to Lionel Messi.
- He also got this award in 2014.
- With eight goals, Kylian Mbappe was awarded the Golden boot.
- Enzo Fernandez was awarded the Young Player of the Tournament award.
- While the goalkeeper of the tournament was given to Emiliano Martinez.
3) India wins blind T20 cricket world cup for third consecutive times
- India won the 3rd T20 World Cup for Blind, played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 17 Dec 2022.
- All the three T20 World Cup for Blind have been hosted by India.
- India defeated Bangladesh by 120 runs in the final.
- Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot presented the winners and runners up trophies.
- The 4th T20 World Cup for Blind will be held in Pakistan in 2023.
4) Indian women’s hockey team wins FIH Nations Cup
- The Indian women Hockey team won the inaugural FIH Nations Cup at Valencia, Spain on 17 December 2022.
- With this win, the Indian team has been promoted to the 2023-24 FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League.
- The winning goal was scored by Gurjit Kaur of India.
- India finished third in the 2021-22 FIH Pro League.

5) India jumps from 7th to 3rd global ranking in scientific publications
- India has been ranked 3rd globally in the publication of scientific papers.
- According to the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Science & Engineering Indicators 2022 report, India’s global position in scientific publications has improved from 7th in 2010 to 3rd in 2020.
- China leads the world in the publication of the maximum number of scientific papers followed by the USA.
6) International Migrants Day: 18 December
- International Migrants Day is celebrated on 18 December every year to raise awareness about the protection of migrants and refugees.
- On 18 December 1990, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

7) Know About: International Hockey Federation (FIH)
- The Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor hockey.
- It is responsible for organizing the Hockey World Cup.
- In 2022, the FIH banned Russia from the 2022 Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup.

8) Assam government launches Orunodoi 2.0 scheme
- Assam government launched a special scheme, Orunodoi 2.0 on 16 Dec 2022.
- The scheme seeks to end poverty and integrate financially disadvantaged families within the state.
- Under the scheme10.54 lakh, beneficiaries will be given Rs 1,250 every month.
- Existing beneficiaries of Deen Dayal Divyangjan Achoni and Indira Miri Sarbojonin Bishwa Pension Achoni will be subsumed under this scheme.
9) Union Territory Ladakh to host G20 event in 2023
- Ladakh is a region administered by India as a union territory.
- Ladakh is bordered by the Tibet Autonomous Region to the east, Himachal Pradesh to the south, and the southwest corner of Xinjiang across the Karakoram Pass in the far north.
- Ladakh was established as a union territory of India on 31 October, 2019.
It is both the largest and the second least populous union territory of India.
10) Khelo India Women’s Track Cycling tournament scheduled
- Khelo India aims at improving India’s sports culture at the grass-root level through organized talent identification, structured sporting competitions and infrastructure development.
- It is a Government of India programme launched in 2017-18 under the tenure PM Narendra Modi and Sports Minister’s Vijay Goel and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
