1) ADB approves USD 30-mln loan to improve education sector in Bhutan

  • The Asian Development Bank has approved a USD 30 million loan to improve Bhutan’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system.
  • The project aims to enhance the skills and employability of Bhutan’s youth by constructing new buildings, workshops, and hostels.
  • The ADB grant will help improve access to and expand the coverage of TVET courses.

 

2) India achieves 7.8 per cent GDP growth for April-June quarter

  • India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 7.8% in Quarter 1 2023-24, reaching Rs 40.37 lakh crore.
  • This is a decrease from the 13.1% growth rate in Q1 2022-23.
  • India remains the fastest-growing major economy.
  • China’s economy grew by 6.3% YoY in Q2 2023.
  • The agriculture sector in India grew by 3.5% in Q1 2023-24.
  • The manufacturing sector in India grew by 4.7% in Q1 2023-24.

 

3) US state of Georgia declares October as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’

  • The US state of Georgia has declared October as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’ to celebrate the contribution of the vibrant Hindu American community to the state’s progress.
  • The proclamation was made by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and will focus on Hindu culture in India.
  • October is a significant month for Hinduism as it contains major festivals like Navaratri and Diwali.

 

4) India to host 81st Plenary Meeting of ICAC in December 2023

  • Piyush Goyal presided over the seventh interactive meeting with the Textile Advisory Group (TAG) on Cotton, on 31st August, 2023.
  • The 81st Plenary Meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) will be hosted from 2nd to 5th December 2023 in Mumbai.
  • The theme of the event will be “Cotton Value Chain- Local Innovations for Global Prosperity”.

 

5) SEBI reconstitutes panel on alternative investment policy

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has reconstituted its alternative investment policy advisory committee with 25 members to advise on issues impacting the development of the Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) space.
  • The committee is chaired by Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy and includes members from Sebi, the Ministry of Finance, and industry associations.

 

6) Assam cabinet approves SOP for National Food Security Act

  • The Assam Cabinet approved the standard operating procedure (SOP) for distributing commodities under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
  • This SOP is being introduced to streamline the Public Distribution System and ensure timely and transparent delivery of grains to NFSA beneficiaries.
  • The council of ministers also decided to observe the “Anna Seva Saptah’ from 10-16 each month.

 

7) MoD inks pact with Genpact India Ltd. for jobs for ex-servicemen

  • Directorate General of Resettlement under Ministry of Defence signed an MOU with Genpact India Private Limited to generate employment opportunities for ex-servicemen.
  • The MoU between DGR and Corporates endeavors to bring the corporate companies and Ex-Servicemen on a common platform to generate employment opportunities.
  • Genpact would provide meaningful career opportunities for Veterans.

 

8) ASI to launch “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” programme

  • The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) will launch the ‘Adopt a Heritage 2.0’ programme that seeks to invite corporate stakeholders to enhance amenities at monuments on September 4.
  • The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) protects 3696 monuments throughout the country.
  • A user-friendly mobile app named “Indian Heritage” will be launched for citizens.
