1) “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal” awarded
- The “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal” for the year 2022 have been awarded for 4 Special Operations.
- The medal was constituted in 2018 to recognize those operations, which have high degree of planning, high significance for the security of the country/State/UT and have significant impact on the security of larger sections of the society.
- It is announced on 31 Oct every year.
2) Know About: UDAN scheme
- Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik, known by its acronym UDAN is a regional airport development program of the Government of India and part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme of upgrading under-serviced air routes.
- Its goal is to make air travel affordable and improve economic development in India.
- Start date: 27 April 2017
- Launched: 21 October 2016
3) Know About: Tata Steel
- Tata Steel Limited is an Indian multinational steel-making company, based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand and headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- It is among the top steel producing companies in the world.
- It is a part of the Tata Group.
- It is the second largest steel company in India with an annual capacity of 13 million tonnes after Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL).

4) National Unity Day: 31st October
- The National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) is celebrated every year on 31st October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister.
- He played an important role in persuading many princely states to join the Union of India.
- This day was first celebrated in 2014.
- This year (2022) will mark the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
5) India defeats Australia to win the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022
- Indian Under 21 men’s hockey team defeated Australia in the final match to win the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022 in Malaysia on 29th Oct.
- This is the third time India has won the Sultan of Johor Cup.
- India’s previous two titles came in 2013 and 2014.
- India’s Sudeep Chirmako was named the Player of the Match.
- A total of six teams competed for the title.

6) Poland chooses US to build its first nuclear power plant
- Poland has chosen US firm Westinghouse to build its first nuclear power plant.
- The move comes in as a part of Poland’s efforts to burn less coal and gain greater energy independence.
- The plant would be built in the Pomerania province near the Baltic Sea coast.
- Poland plans to spend 40 billion dollars for the building of two nuclear power plants with three reactors each.
7) M Amritanandamayi appointed as Chair of Civil Society of G20 summit
- Union Govt has appointed spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi as the Chair of India’s Civil 20 (C20), an official engagement group of the G20.
- The C20 is a platform for civil-society organisations (CSOs) to bring forth non-government and non-business voices to the G20 leaders.
- India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from Dec 1, 2022 to Nov 30, 2023.

8) ECI to host conference on role of election management bodies
- The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host international conference on the theme ‘Role, Framework & Capacity of Election Management Bodies’ from 31st Oct to 1st Nov in New Delhi.
- ECI, as the lead for the Cohort on ‘Election Integrity, has invited Greece, Mauritius & IFES to be co-leads for the cohort.
- The conference will be inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
9) World Thrift Day: 31st October
- World Thrift Day is marked every year on 31 October in order to raise awareness about the importance of savings.
- In India, due to the death of late PM Indira Gandhi on the same day in 1984, this day is celebrated on 30th Oct.
- The 1st International Thrift Congress which was held in Milan, Italy in 1924 had declared Oct 31 as World Thrift day.
- 2022 Theme: “Saving prepares you for the future”.
10) Know About: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
- Sardar Patel was an influential political leader who served as the first Deputy Prime Minister of India and first Home Minister of India from 1947 to 1950.
- He was also known as the ‘Iron Man of India!
- He was appointed as the 49th President of Indian National Congress in 1931.
- Patel persuaded approximately 565 self-governing princely states to accede to India.
11) Know About : Brazil
- Fifth largest country, Brazil is the country of South America.
- Brazil faces the Atlantic Ocean along 7,400 km of coastline and shares inland borders with every South American country except Chile and Ecuador.
- Brazil contains most of the Amazon River basin, which has the world’s largest river system.
- Brazil is the fifth most-populous country on Earth.
12) Know About: Sultan of Johor Cup
- The Sultan of Johor Cup is an annual, international under-21 men’s field hockey tournament held in Malaysia.
- India & Britain are the most successful teams having won the tournament 3 times.
- A total of 6 teams (Australia, India, Britain, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa) participated in the 2022 edition.
- It was not held in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
