DAILY DOSE 1ST AUG CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) Income Tax Returns for 2021-2022 fiscal went past 5.73 crore
- Over 63.47 lakh income tax returns were filed till 10 pm on Sunday, the last day for filing ITR for the 2021-22 fiscal by salaried individuals.
- The deadline for filing I-T returns by those taxpayers who do not have to get their accounts audited for the fiscal that ended on March 31 was July 31, 2022.
- The total number of ITRS for the 2021-22 fiscal filed till 10 pm went past 5.73 crore.
2) Sanjay Arora appointed as the new Delhi Police commissioner
- Sanjay Arora, director general of the ITBP and a 1988-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the next Delhi Police Commissioner.
- Arora will succeed Rakesh Asthana, whose term ended on 31 July 2022.
- Earlier, Arora was appointed the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) DG in August 2021.
- He has also been awarded the ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Service’ in 2004.
3) Anahat Singh: India’s youngest athlete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games
- 14 years old Squash player Anahat Singh is India’s youngest athlete to participate in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham.
- She hails from Delhi & is currently studying in Class 9.
- She was selected for the Indian team following her victory at the Asian Junior Squash in 2022.
- On 29 July 2022, Anahat won her debut match at the CWG 2022 by defeating her opponent Jada Ross.
4) India & Oman to hold military exercise ‘AL NAJAH-IV’ from 1 August
- The 4th Edition of India-Oman Joint Military Exercise ‘AL NAJAH-IV’ will take place in the Mahajan field firing ranges in Rajasthan from August 1 to 13, 2022.
- A 60-member team from the Royal Army of Oman will join the exercise.
- The Indian Army will be represented by troops from the 18 Mechanised Infantry Battalion.
- The previous edition of this exercise was organised in Muscat in March 2019.
5) Mirabai Chanu wins first Gold medal for India at CWG 2022
- In the Commonwealth Games 2022, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has won India’s 1st gold medal in the women’s 49 kilogram event at Birmingham.
- Chanu lifted a total of 201 kilogram in snatch & clean & jerk category.
- Bindyarani Sorokhaibam also won Silver medal in women’s 55 Kg weightlifting category.
- So far, India has won 4 medals in the CWG 2022.
- All these medals come in weightlifting.
6) Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins Gold in men’s 67 kg weightlifting at CWG 2022
- Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga on 31 July 2022 won the gold medal in the men’s 67 kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
- He lifted a total of 160kg in the clean and jerk segment to finish with a grand total of 300kg.
- This is India’s second gold medal at the CWG after Mirabai Chanu delivered gold on 30 July.
- Chanu had won gold in the women’s 49 kg category.
7) World Ranger Day: 31 July
- World Ranger Day is observed every year on 31 July.
- The day is observed to honour rangers and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives while performing their duty.
- A ranger usually protects forests and naturally protected areas.
- This day was established by the International Ranger Federation (IRF) in 2007.
- 2022 theme: ‘Rangers are no strangers to diversity’
8) World Day Against Trafficking in Persons: 30 July
- World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed every year on July 30.
- It is observed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to raise awareness about the ordeal of human trafficking victims and the ways to safeguard their rights.
- World Day against Trafficking in Persons was first observed in 2013.
- The theme for 2022 is ‘Use and Abuse of Technology.’
9) PM Modi inaugurates first All India DLSAS Meet
- PM Narendra Modi on 30 July 2022 inaugurated the first All India District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) Meet in New Delhi.
- The first-ever national level meet of DLSAs is being organised from 30-31 July 2022 by National Legal Services Authority.
- There are a total of 676 DLSAS in the country & in the meeting, they will discuss the ways to bring homogeneity and synchronisation across DLSAS.
10) Savitri Jindal becomes Asia’s richest woman
- Savitri Jindal with a net worth of $18 billion has emerged as Asia’s wealthiest woman surpassing China’s Yang Haiyan.
- Savitri’s net worth has tripled in the last 2 years.
- Savitri is the Chairperson of OP Jindal Group set up by her late husband, Om Prakash Jindal.
- The company is the third-largest producer of steel in India & also operates in cement, energy & infrastructure.
11) Tata Steel rolls out ‘First in India’ seating system for Vande Bharat
- Tata Steel to roll out the ‘First in India’ seating system for Vande Bharat Express trains from September 2022.
- These are specially designed seats, which can rotate 180 degrees and have aircraft-style passenger amenities.
- Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, is the second fastest train in India, which operates at a speed of 130 km/hr.

12) Punjab govt inks pact to become member of ‘Under2 coalition’
- The Punjab govt has signed an agreement for becoming a member of the prestigious Global Network called ‘Under2 Coalition’ to check global warming.
- With this, Punjab has become a member of the largest network of 221 states of 43 countries committed to reducing carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Punjab is the sixth Indian state to join the ‘Under2 Coalition’
