1) HDFC Bank opens all-women branch in north Kerala
- In a first, HDFC Bank has opened its all-women branch in Kozhikode, north Kerala.
- The branch will have 4 women bankers.
- According to the bank, women constituted 21.7% (21,486) of the workforce as of March 31, 2022.
- It has plans to increase it to 25% by 2025.

2) Rajasthan government to inaugurate tech centre for graduates
- With an aim to make tech graduates more employable, Rajasthan government is set to inaugurate Rajiv Gandhi Centre of Advance Technology or R-CAT.
- It will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on 20 Aug’22 during a two-day DigiFest-2022.
- R-CAT will conduct training programs on advanced and emerging information technologies with a duration ranging from 1 week to 6 months for graduates.
3) Medicine from sky: Arunachal gets drone-based healthcare services
- Arunachal Pradesh successfully launched the first flight of drone service – ‘medicine from the sky’ from Seppa to Chayang Tajo in East Kameng district, in August 2022.
- The pilot project has been funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and executed by Bengaluru-based startup Redwing Labs.
- It was launched in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF).
4) HDFC Bank introduced “Vigil Aunty” to promote secure banking practices
- HDFC Bank has announced the launch of a new campaign titled ‘Vigil Aunty!
- It aims to encourage people across the country to practise safe banking habits.
- Anuradha Menon will be the protagonist of this campaign.
- Through a series of videos, reels, chat shows, Menon, as Vigil Aunty, will be creating awareness on safe banking do’s and don’ts.

5) 4th India-Philippines Strategic Dialogue held in Manila
- The 4th India-Philippines Strategic Dialogue was held in Manila on 18 August 2022.
- In this both the countries discussed Defence and Security Cooperation & also exchanged views on Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-related matters.
- In February 2022, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had visited the Philippines with the aim to strengthen bilateral ties.
6) Nitin Gadkari unveils India’s 1st electric double-decker bus in Mumbai
- Highways and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on 18 August 2022 unveiled India’s first Electric Double Decker bus in Mumbai.
- Switch Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, has manufactured this unique electric double-decker bus called ‘Switch EiV 22.’
- The Switch electric double-decker can carry nearly twice the number of seated passengers compared to a single-decker bus.
7) FSIB recommends Mohammad Mustafa for NABARD’s Chairman post
- The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) on 17 August 2022 recommended Mohammad Mustafa for the post of NABARD Chairman.
- Mustafa, a 1995 batch IAS officer, served as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by PM Modi will take the final decision on the recommendation of FSIB.
8) World Humanitarian Day: 19 August
- Every year, World Humanitarian Day is observed on August 19 to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to serve humanity against all odds.
- It was commemorated for the first time in 2009.
- It is observed in the memory of the UN Special Representative for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, who was killed in a bomb attack in Baghdad in 2003.

9) Paralympian Rahul Jakhar wins Gold in 2022 WSPS Shooting World Cup
- Paralympian Rahul Jakhar on 18 August 2022 won the gold medal in the 2022 WSPS Shooting World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.
- He won the gold medal in the 25-metre competition.
- Besides Rahul, Avani Lekhara & Pooja Agarwal won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
- While Avani won the silver in the 10-metre category, Pooja won the bronze in the 25-metre category.
10) Mandla becomes country’s first fully ‘functionally literate’ district
- Madhya Pradesh’s tribal-dominated ‘Mandla’ region has become the first fully “functionally literate” district in the country.
- The district administration, in 2020 launched the “Niraksharta Se Azadi Abhiyaan” to make the residents functionally literate.
- A person can be called functionally literate. when he or she is able to write his or her own name, to count and read and write in Hindi.
11) HAL to open first overseas marketing office in Malaysia
- Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on 18 August 2022 signed an MoU for opening its first international marketing & sales office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
- This office in Malaysia will help HAL in tapping the new business opportunities for Fighter Lead in Trainer (FLIT) LCA.
- It will also help HAL expand its services in South East Asia.

12) Goa becomes first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified State in the country
- ‘Goa’ and ‘Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu’ have become respectively the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified State and UT in the country.
- In this State and UT, people from all the villages now have access to safe drinking water through tap connection.
- Jal Jeevan Mission’, launched in August 2019, aims to provide potable tap water supply to every rural household of the country by 2024.
