1) HSBC India to lend $250 million to high-growth, tech-led startups

  • HSBC India will lend USD 250 million to startups in India.
  • The lending will be done to high-growth, tech-led startups in the third largest startup ecosystem in the world.
  • It will be managed by the bank’s commercial banking vertical.
  • The commercial banking vertical in India. had witnessed a 42% jump in its profit for 2021 at $265 million as against $187 million in 2020 period.

 

2) Prasar Bharati Procurement Policy released

  • At Prasar Bharati, for the first time, a procurement policy was released by the Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra in June’22.
  • The Prasar Bharati Procurement Policy is a directive to all procurement entities in all Prasar Bharati verticals to procure materials, services and work of the specified quality at the most competitive prices in a fair, just, and transparent manner.

 

3) Government extends upper age limit for Agnipath recruitment scheme

  • The Central government has extended the upper age limit for the Agnipath recruitment scheme from 21 years to 23 years.
  • The age waiver will be given only one time for the proposed recruitment cycle for 2022.
  • The scheme provides an opportunity for Indian youth to serve in the regular cadre of the Armed Forces for a period of four years.

 

4) WTO signs landmark deal after nearly a decade

  • The 164 member countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO) finally sealed a package of trade agreements on 17 June 2022 in Geneva, with India leading the course.
  • The series of trade deals include pledges on food security, balanced outcome on fisheries subsidies, etc.
  • The last time the WTO took a major trade decision was back in 2013, when it agreed to India’s demand for a ‘peace clause’

 

5) Indian Navy and NCMRWF sign MoU for cooperation in Meteorology

  • National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) on 17 June 2022 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Navy for ‘Cooperation on Numerical Model-Based Applications in Meteorology and Oceanology!
  • The purpose of this MoU is to share the expertise of both organisations in the field of weather/ ocean modelling.
  • NCMRWF is a national agency for weather forecasting.

 

6) India’s overall exports in May 2022 surged 24% to 62.21 bn dollars

  • India’s overall exports in May 2022 are estimated to be over 62 billion dollars, exhibiting a positive growth of over 24 percent over the same period 2021.
  • The merchandise exports have grown by 20 percent and services exports by over 30 percent in May 2022.
  • Exports also rose by 23 percent from the $29.8 billion registered three years back or May 2019, before the pandemic struck.

 

7) Autistic Pride Day: 18 June

  • Autistic Pride Day is celebrated each year on June 18.
  • It recognises the importance of pride for autistic people and its role in bringing about positive changes in the broader society.
  • The theme for 2022 is ‘Inclusion in the Workplace: Challenges and Opportunities in a Post-Pandemic World!
  • The first Autistic Pride Day was celebrated in 2005 by a group called Aspies for Freedom (AFF).

 

8) India hosts SAIFMM to commemorate 30 years of ASEAN-India Dialogue

  • India on 16 June 2022 hosted ASEAN Foreign Ministers and Secretary General for a Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SAIFMM).
  • It was organised to commemorate 30 years of ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations.
  • It was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.

 

9) Sargam Koushal crowned as Mrs India World 2022-2023

  • India World 2022-2023, was held on June 15, 2022 in Mumbai.
  • Sargam Koushal was crowned the winner and will represent India at Mrs. World 2022.
  • She was followed by Mrs. Juhi Vyas as 1st runner-up and Mrs. Chahat Dalal as 2nd runner up.
  • Sargam Koushal was adjudicated as the winner competing against 51 other contestants from all parts of India.

 

10) COAI appoints Pramod K Mittal as new Chairman

  • The Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI) on 14 June 2022 appointed Pramod K Mittal as the Chairman of the association.
  • Mittal is currently serving as the President of Reliance Jio Infocomm.
  • He will replace Ajai Puri as the COAI Chairman.
  • COAI is the apex industry body which represents leading telecom, Internet, technology, and digital services companies.
  • It was founded in 1995.

 

11) LinkedIn, UN Women join hands to create opportunities for women

  • LinkedIn will invest USD 5,00,000 (Rs 3.88 cr) in partnership with UN Women to advance women’s economic empowerment.
  • The project will launch a pilot in Maharashtra to cultivate the digital soft and employability skills of 2,000 women.
  • The three-year regional collaboration will digitally upskill women, providing them greater access to jobs and equipping them to fully participate in economy.

 

12) Bengaluru airport recognised as best in India and South Asia

  • The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has bagged the best regional airport in India and South Asia title in the 2022 Skytrax World Airport Awards.
  • The award is based on the feedback from the customers in a survey conducted globally.
  • The awards ceremony was held in Paris on 16 June 2022.
  • Bengaluru Airport had also won the Best Airport Award at the Wings India Awards in March ’22

 

13) Gujarat becomes first State in the country to launch Balika Panchayat

  • Gujarat has become the first state in the country to launch ‘Balika Panchayat!
  • It is a panchayat of girls which aims to promote the social and political development of the girls and ensure their active participation in politics.
  • It is managed by the girls in the 11-21 age group.
  • It was first started in Kunaria, Maska, Motagua, and Vadsar villages of the Kutch district of Gujarat.

 

14) 14th BRICS Summit to be held in Beijing on 23 June 2022

  • Chinese President Xi Jinping will host the 14th BRICS Summit in Beijing on 23 June 2022.
  • The summit will be held in virtual format under the theme of ‘Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development!
  • China is the chair of the 14th BRICS Summit happening in 2022.
  • BRICS at present comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
  • OBRICS founded – 2009

 

15) Govt clears the appointment of new Chief Justice in 6 High Courts

  • Union Government has cleared the appointments of new Chief Justices in six High Courts (HC).
  • 5 Judges of the High Courts will be elevated as Chief Justices (CJ) while the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court S.C. Sharma would be transferred to the Delhi HC in the same capacity.
  • Vipin Sanghi & S S Shinde will be appointed as the Chief Justices of Uttarakhand HC and Rajasthan HC respectively.

 

16) US President nominates Radha Iyengar Plumb to top Pentagon Post

  • US President Joe Biden on 15 June 2022 nominated Indian-American Security Expert Radha lyengar Plumb to the post of Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.
  • Plumb is Currently serving as the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary of Defense.
  • Biden had also nominated Indian-American diplomat Rachna Sachdeva Korhonen as his envoy to Mali in April 2022.

 

17) Hamza Abdi Barre appointed as the Prime Minister of Somalia

  • Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on 15 June 2022 appointed Hamza Abdi Barre as the country’s Prime Minister.
  • Barre is an MP from the semi-autonomous state of Jubaland and will replace Mohamed Hussein Roble.
  • Barre was also the secretary-general of the Peace and Development Party.

18) Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai to be new PCI Chief

  • Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, a former judge of the Supreme Court, has been selected as the next chairperson of the Press Council of India. (PCI).
  • Justice Desai had recently headed the Delimitation Commission on Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The post was lying vacant since Justice. Chandramauli Kumar Prasad (retd) completed his term as the PCI chairperson in November 2021.

 

19) Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin launches Ennum Ezhuthum scheme

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the Ennum Ezhuthum scheme in June 2022.
  • The scheme aims to ensure foundational literacy and numeracy by 2025.
  • Under the programme, the education department will distribute workbooks to students from Classes 1 to 3 to assess and bridge the learning gap.
