1) Cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’, to make landfall in Bangladesh coast

  • The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal on Friday intensified into a cyclonic storm and will graze past the Sunderbans before making landfall on Bangladesh coast with a maximum wind speed of 80 kmph, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin.
  • The cyclonic storm named ‘Midhili’ will cross the Bangladesh coast during November 17 night.

 

2) 321 Vizag Flight “Angels” of Indian Navy celebrates 51st Anniversary

  • The guardian “Angels” ofVizag, 321 Vizag Flight of the Indian Navy celebrated 51st Anniversary.
  • Based at INS Dega, the Flight consists of Chetak helicopters mandated to provide Search and rescue cover on the Eastern seaboard.
  • The men and machine of the “Angels” Flight have undertaken numerous life-saving missions both at sea and over land, protecting precious lives.

 

3) “MSME PAVILION” opened at the 42nd India International Trade Fair

  • Union Minister for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Shri Narayan Rane, inaugurated the “MSME PAVILION” at the 42nd India International Trade Fair (IITF).
  • The MSME Pavilion has been organized at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
  • This year MSME Pavilion at the 42nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) is based on the theme “PM Vishwakarma”, the flagship scheme of the Ministry of MSME.

 

4) Amit S Telang appointed as Indian envoy to the Caribbean Community

  • The Ministry of External Affairs has announced that High Commissioner of India to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Amit S Telang has been concurrently accredited as the Indian Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
  • He is also the High Commissioner to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda.

 

5) National Epilepsy Day 2023: 17th November

  • National Epilepsy Day is celebrated every year in India on November 17 to raise awareness around the brain disorder and bust myths surrounding the disease.
  • The day was first observed by the Epilepsy Foundation of India and was established by Dr Nirmal Surya.
  • The aim of this day was to help needy people who are not able to afford treatment and also to bust myths surrounding epilepsy.

 

6) Khadi Theme Pavillion inaugurated at IITF 2023 in New Delhi

  • Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister, Narayan Rane inaugurated the Khadi Theme Pavillion at the India International Trade Fair which is underway at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
  • Some of the key attractions of the pavillion include spinning wheel-charkha, khadi garments, handicrafts, wooden toys, and ayurvedic cosmetics.

 

7) WHO declares loneliness a pressing global health threat

  • The WHO also launched an international commission on the problem, led by the US surgeon general, Dr Vivek Murthy. The commission will run for three years.
  • Dr Murthy said that the mortality effects of loneliness are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
  • He said, the rate of ‘one in four’ older people experiencing social isolation is similar in all regions of the world.

 

8) ‘Amini’, the 4th of 08 x ASW Shallow Water Craft launched

  • Amini, theASW Shallow Water Craft (SWC) Project is being built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders Ltd. for Indian Navy.
  • The ship has been named Amini to signify the strategic maritime importance accorded to the island of Amini at Lakshadweep, located about 400 Km west of Kochi.
  • The contract for building eight ASW SWC ships was signed between GRSE and MoD.

 

9) PM Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana participating in 42nd IITF

  • Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojanais participating in the 42nd Indian International Trade Fair being held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 14 to 27 November.
  • Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana  was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India.
  • Janaushadhi Kendras are opened to provide generic medicines.

 

10) HDFC Life won Golden Peacock Award for Excellence

  • HDFC Life, one of India’s leading life insurers, has won the prestigious Golden Peacock Award for Excellence in Corporate Governancefor the year 2023.
  • The Golden Peacock Awards Secretariat, Institute of Directors, India, adjudged the Awards under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India.

 

11) Lala Lajpat Rai death anniversary: 17th November

  • Lala Lajpat Rai led a peaceful protest in Lahore, which turned violent when the police lathi-charged the crowd.
  • In the ensuing clash, Lala Lajpat Rai sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them on November 17, 1928.
  • Bhagat Singh formed the Naujawan Sabha to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. He killed the police officer, Saunders, to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai.

 

12) Southern Naval Command commemorated birth centenary of Adm. Pereira

  • Southern Naval Command conducted a two day Panel Discussions on Leadership to commemorate the birth centenary of iconic Naval Leader Late Admiral Ronald Lynsdale ‘Ronnie’ Pereira at Kochi.
  • The Panel Discussions stimulated the audience on topics titled ‘Ronnie Pereira – The Admiral, the Man and a Leader with Credibility’, ‘Leadership – Different Strokes and ‘Leadership at the Field Level’.

 

13) Kiren Rijiju reached Maldives to attend oath taking event of Muizzu

  • Kiren Rijiju, India’s Earth Sciences Minister, is in Maldives for Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential inauguration.
  • Muizzu defeated incumbent President Solih in recent September elections, after former President Yameen was barred.
  • Dignitaries from 46 countries will attend the ceremony, reflecting international recognition of Maldives’ political events.
