1) Rajasthan’s Nandini Gupta crowned Femina Miss India 2023
- Rajasthan’s Nandini Gupta was crowned 59th Femina Miss India 2023 on 16 April 2023.
- The grand ceremony was organized at Imphal’s Khuman Lampak Stadium, Manipur.
- The first runner-up was Shreya Poonja from Delhi, and the second runner-up was Thounaojam Strela Luwang from Manipur.
- She was crowned by Karnataka’s Sini Shetty, the Miss India winner of 2022.
2) Global Conference on Compressed Biogas to commence on 17 April
- According to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, a two-day Global Conference on Compressed Biogas (CBG) will be held in New Delhi from 17 April. 2023.
- The theme of the conference is “Towards Progressive Policy Framework for a Robust CBG Foundation and Growth.”
- It aims to appraise the industry about the initiatives taken by govt for the development of compressed biogas industry.
3) Ivan Dodig & Austin Krajicek win Monte-Carlo Masters doubles title
- Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek defeated Romain Arneodo and Sam Weissborn in the final to win the doubles tennis title at the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters on 16 April 2023.
- Both have now won five tour-level titles together while Dodig has now won six ATP Masters 1000 titles.
- The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France.
4) Save The Elephant Day: 16 April
- Save the Elephant Day is observed every year on 16 April and the day aims to promote awareness of the issues faced by elephants and inspire efforts to protect these majestic animals.
- In 1992, India launched Project Elephant with the goal of protecting elephants and their habitat.
5) World Haemophilia Day: 17 April
- World Haemophilia Day is observed on 17 April every year to increase awareness about hemophilia disease and other inherited bleeding disorders.
- In 1989, World Haemophilia Day was started by the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) in honor of WFH founder Frank Schnabel’s birthday.
- The theme for the Day 2023 is “Access for All: Prevention of Bleeds as the Global Standard of Care.”
6) First army commanders conference to begin on 17 April
- The first Army Commanders’ Conference (ACC) will be held from 17-21 April 2023 in Hybrid format.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will address the conference on April 19.
- The Forum will review the progress on the Agneepath plan, digitization and automation initiatives, Combat Engineers tasks and budget management as well as activities drawn up as part of the ‘Year of Transformation-2023’.
7) Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka recorded the highest temperature in 58 yrs
- Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka had its hottest day on 15 April 2023 in 58 years with the temperature rising to 40.4 degrees Celsius.
- Earlier in 1965, the maximum temperature in Dhaka stood at 42 degrees Celsius.
- Bangladesh experienced its highest temperature of 44.5 degrees at Jashore in 1964.
8) India, Peru hold 2nd Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi on 15 April
- The 2nd India-Peru Joint Commission Meeting was held in New Delhi on 15 April 2023.
- The meeting was co-chaired by Saurabh Kumar, Secretary, and Ignacio Higueras, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru.
- The two sides agreed to exchange visits and hold a series of business, and other bilateral events as part of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
9) Cll organizes Digital Health Summit 2023 with Ministry of Health
- Confederate of Indian Industry (CII) co-organizes Digital Health Summit 2023 with the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in Panaji, Goa on 16 April 2023.
- It aims to create and curate Digital Public Goods and promote interoperability, data privacy, and data security standards.
- The theme of the event was “Building One Health Together – Improving Health Equity.
10) Appasaheb Dharmadhikari awarded “Maharashtra Bhushan” award for 2022
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the “Maharashtra Bhushan” award for the year 2022 to Dr. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari at Raigarh, Maharashtra on 16th April 2023.
- Appasaheb Dharmadhikari is a famous social reformer.
- He established the Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Foundation, Revdanda to expand the scope of social work.
- In view of his work, he was also honored with Padma Shri in 2017.
11) Montana becomes first state to pass bill banning TikTok
- Montana becomes the first US state to pass legislation banning TikTok on personal devices.
- Tik Tok has been accused of posing a national security risk through data gathered from users.
- The bill, known as SB 419, passed by a vote of 54 to 43.
- It cites a number of concerns about TikTok, including surveillance from the Chinese government and inciting dangerous activities among young users.
