1) Singer Kanika Kapoor, healthcare heroes win Asian Achievers Awards in

  • Popular Indian singer Kanika Kapoor, heroes from the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and Indian-origin high achievers are among the winners of 2023 year’s Asian Achievers Awards (AAA) in London.
  • Chief Clinical Officer of NHS Bexley Dr Nikki Kanani won Professional of the Year and Salman Desai was awarded for his work for the North West Ambulance Service.

 

2) Nobel Prize award raised to nearly $1 million for 2023

  • The Nobel Foundation has announced that the winners of this year’s Nobel Prizes will get an extra one million crowns.
  • This increase has made this year’s cash award the most valuable, to be handed out in the more than 100-year history of the Nobel Prize.
  • The prestigious Peace Prize is handed out in Oslo, while the other award ceremonies are held in Stockholm.

 

3) India ranks first among 154 nations in grassroots crypto adoption

  • India has achieved the top rank among 154 nations in grassroots crypto adoption, according to Chainalysis’ 2023 Global Crypto Adoption Index.
  • The government has introduced stringent taxation rules, including a 30% tax on gains and a 1% TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) on crypto trades.
  • Nigeria ranks second in the index followed by Vietnam which secured the third spot.

 

4) Cabinet approves e-Courts phase-III for 4 years

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the eCourts Project Phase III for 4 years.
  • A key objective of Phase III is to transition towards a digital, online, and paperless court system.
  • Phase III will implement a smart scheduling system that recommends the most appropriate schedule for listing cases based on various factors.

 

5) 84 artistes conferred with Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit awards

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards to 84 Indian artists aged above 75 years who have not been accorded any national honour in their career so far.
  • The ceremony was held to recognise & honour the contribution of veteran Indian artists from varied fields of performing arts.
  • The awardees received Rs 1 lakh, besides a ‘Tamrapatra’ and ‘Angavastram’.

 

6) RBI penalises four Co-op banks for rule violations

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)has imposed monetary penalties on four co-operative banks for deficiencies in regulatory compliance.
  • The Becharaji Nagarik Sahakari Bank Ltd. was fined ₹2.00 lakh .
  • The Waghodia Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd. was penalized ₹5.00 lakh.
  • The Viramgam Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd. was fined ₹5.00 lakh.
  • The Baramati Sahakari Bank Ltd. was fined ₹2.00 lakh.

 

7) Team including Indian researcher wins 2023 Ig Nobel prize

  • A team of scientists from India, China, Malaysia and the US has won 2023 year’s Ig Nobels.
  • It has won in the mechanical engineering category for its study of repurposing dead spiders to be used in gripping tools.
  • The study of repurposing dead spiders was published in the journal Advanced Science in 2022.
  • The Prize is reserved for those who have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.

 

8) Rahul Navin appointed interim director of Enforcement Directorate

  • Rahul Navin has been appointed as the In-Charge Director of the Enforcement Directorate, succeeding Sanjay Kumar Mishra.
  • The Enforcement Directorate is a specialized law enforcement agency in India responsible for enforcing economic laws and regulations in the country.
  • The agency investigates and prosecutes cases related to financial crimes, money laundering, and economic offenses.

 

9) Govt launches UPAg, a unified portal for agri statistics

  • The Centre has launched the Unified Portal for Agricultural Statistics (UPAg), an online platform for the management of agricultural data.
  • The UPAg, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (DA & FW), was launched by NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand.
  • The platform is designed to generate crop estimates such as price, trade, procurement, stock, said an official.

  • ExxonMobil has signed Hrithik Roshan as the new brand ambassador for its lubrication brand Mobil.
  • Mobil offers a range of expertly formulated industrial lubricants to cater to diverse market needs.
  • Mobil products are engineered to help consumers get outstanding engine performance and protection for their cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

 

11) India becomes Bangladesh’s largest export partner

  • India has emerged as Bangladesh’s largest export partner, more so than Japan and China.
  • Joint Secretary (Bangladesh and Myanmar) in the Union Ministry of External Affairs Smita Pant said.
  • Bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India has experienced remarkable growth.
  • India’s exports to Bangladesh increased from USD 450 million to a substantial USD 2 billion.

 

12) Indian Bank rolls out IB SAATHI to provide basic banking services

  • Indian Bank has unveiled IB SAATHI (Sustainable Access and Aligning Technology for Holistic Inclusion), a financial inclusion solution.
  • It is aimed at providing basic banking services to stakeholders through the business correspondent (BC) channel.
  • IB SAATHI offers an enhanced user experience through the simplified delivery of services.

 

13) India’s trade deficit widens to 10-month high in August 2023

  • India’s trade deficit widened to a 10-month high of $24.16 billion in August, according to government data.
  • Falling imports and exports caused India’s trade deficit in July to narrow to $20.67 billion.
  • India’s overall exports, including merchandise and services, stood at $60.87 billion in August, down 4.2%.
  • Imports stood at $72.50 billion in August, down 5.97%.

 

14) Ashok Leyland signs MoU with UP Govt to set up integrated e-bus plant

  • Ashok Leyland signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh government to set up an integrated commercial vehicle and electric bus plant in the state.
  • The plant will predominantly produce electric buses, with the flexibility to assemble other vehicles powered by currently available fuels as well as emerging alternative fuels.
  • The new unit in Uttar Pradesh will start in the next 18 months.

 

15) Former SBI Chief Rajnish Kumar appointed Chairman of Mastercard

  • Mastercard appointed Rajnish Kumar, former Chairman of SBI, as Chairman of Mastercard India.
  • Kumar brings nearly 4 decades of experience in India’s largest bank to his new role at Mastercard.
  • Mastercard aims to expand its domestic footprint and forge strategic partnerships across the payments ecosystem.
  • The ban on Mastercard issuing cards to new domestic customers was lifted in June 2022.

 

16) World Patient Safety Day: 17 September

  • World Patient Safety Day, observed annually on 17 September to raise global awareness about patient safety and call for solidarity and united action by all countries and international partners to reduce patient harm.
  • World Patient Safety Day was established in May 2019.
  • The theme for World Patient Safety Day 2023 is “Engaging patients for patient safety.”
