3) MEA celebrates SCO Day under India’s chairmanship
- The Ministry of External Affairs celebrated Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Day under India’s SCO chairmanship.
- A postage stamp was released to commemorate the occasion.
- Ambassadors of the SCO Member States, observers, and dialogue partners took part in the event.
- India assumed the rotating presidency of the SCO at the 2022 SCO Summit held in Uzbekistan.
4) Oscar-winning actress, Glenda Jackson passes away
- Glenda Jackson, a two-time Oscar winner, has passed away at the age of 87.
- She won her first best-actress Oscar for “Women in Love” (1969) and her second for “A Touch of Class” (1973).
- Jackson was elected to Parliament in 1992 and became minister of transport.
- She won a best-actress Trophy for her role as a woman over 90 facing mortality, in Edward Albee’s “Three Tall Women” in 2018.
5) Dharmendra Pradhan flags off Gabon’s first Agri-SEZ project
- Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off Gabon’s first Agri- SEZ project from New Delhi
- The project will be implemented by the AOM group with Centurion University as the technical partner.
- In the first phase of the program, 30 farmers and 20 Engineering students will be traveling together as agri-technical consultants.
6) Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu emerge top achievers in Wind Energy
- The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy celebrated Global Wind Day in New Delhi.
- The event aimed to discuss ways to accelerate wind energy adoption in India.
- The central theme of the celebration was “Pawan – Urja: Powering the Future of India.”
- Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu were felicitated for their achievements in wind energy capacity addition.
7) Indian Navy launches ‘Julley Ladakh’ initiative to engage with youths
- The Indian Navy launched an outreach program called “Julley Ladakh” (Hello Ladakh) to raise awareness about the naval service in the Himalayan region.
- It aims to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence and highlight career opportunities in the Indian Navy.
- The program also aims to motivate youngsters to join the naval service and showcase ‘women’s power’ by including women officers.
8) Govt signs 500 cr contract to strengthen Army’s communication system
- The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has signed a contract with ICOMM Tele Ltd. to procure 1,035 numbers of 5/7.5 Ton Radio Relay Communication equipment containers.
- The contract is under the Buy (Indian) Category and is worth nearly 500 crore.
- The containers would be mounted on authorized specialist vehicles and moved as per operational requirements.
