1) International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD): 15 February
- The day is observed on February 15 every year.
- The day was created by Childhood Cancer International, an umbrella organisation of various child cancer support groups created by parents.
- The day is dedicated to raising awareness and showing support for children and adolescents suffering from cancer.
- The theme for the three-year (2021-2023) campaign for ICCD is ‘Better Survival!
2) Know About: Childhood Cancer International
- Childhood Cancer International was established in 1994.
- It is the largest patient-support organisation for childhood cancer in the world.
- The organisation consists of more than 170. different groups, including parent organisations, childhood cancer survivor associations, childhood cancer support groups, and cancer societies.
- It created annual International Childhood Cancer Day in 2002.
3) US Scientists Discovers New Quasicrystal
- US Scientists have recently discovered a new type of quasicrystal, one with 12-fold symmetry, in the Sand Hills of north central Nebraska, USA.
- Quasicrystal is essentially a crystal-like substance.
- However, unlike a crystal, in which atoms are arranged in a repeating pattern, a quasicrystal consists of atoms that are arranged in a pattern that doesn’t repeat itself regularly.

- The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean.
- Country was founded on July 4, 1776.
- The US has the world’s largest economy by nominal GDP and the second largest by purchasing power parity.

5) Akshdeep and Priyanka win men’s and women’s 20km race walk gold
- National Open Race Walking Championships was held on 14 Feb’23 in Ranchi.
- In this event, Akshdeep Singh clinched the men’s 20km event gold with a stunning national record time.
- In the Women’s 20km event, national record holder Priyanka Goswami won gold.
- With this, both had qualified for 2023 World Championships as well as 2024 Paris Olympics.
6) Summer Olympics 2024
- The Olympics 2024 will be hosted by France on September 2024.
- The main centre of the event will be France’s Capital – Paris.
- The Olympics 2024 motto will be Made for Sharing (“Venez a Partager”).
- Extra sports like Skateboarding and Surfing have been confirmed to be played in the Olympics.

7) Hyundai Motors India signs two more women cricketers as ambassadors
- Hyundai Motor India Ltd has signed on two more women cricketers named Yastika Bhatia and Renuka Singh Thakur, to its roster of brand ambassadors.
- Bhatia and Thakur will join Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues in the list of brand ambassadors for Hyundai.
- Hyundai Motor India has announced the next edition of its ‘The Drive Within’ campaign with these five women cricketers.
8) India’s industrial production index grows 4.3% in December 2022
- As per Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data, India’s Industrial Production, IIP index grew by 4.3 per cent in December 2022.
- It grew by 5.4% during April to December of the current fiscal 2022-23.
- The manufacturing sector’s output grew by 2.6% in Dec 2022, while the mining output rose by 9.8% and electricity production increased by 10.4% during December.
9) Know About: Index of Industrial Production (IIP)
- It is an indicator that measures the changes in the volume of production of industrial products during a given period.

- It is published monthly.
- It is measures the growth rate of industry groups classified under broad sectors, namely, Mining, Manufacturing, and Electricity.

10) Maharashtra cabinet decides to implement PM Shri scheme in state
- Maharashtra cabinet has decided to implement Pradhan Mantri School for Rising India (PM Shri) in the state on 14 Feb’23.
- 856 schools will be upgraded in the first phase.
- 1 crore 88 lakh rupees will be provided to each school for 5 years.
- For this, the share of Centre and State will be 60:40 for 5 years.
- These schools will be upgraded primarily on the 6 pillars.
11) Know About: Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) Scheme
- PM-SHRI Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme by Government of India.
- It will cover 14,500 existing schools, which will be redeveloped to reflect the key features of the National Education Policy, 2020.
- The institutions developed under this, will become ‘model schools’ under NEP.
- These schools will adopt a modern and holistic approach of imparting education.
