1) Tamil Nadu CM announces celebrating April 14 as ‘Equality Day’

  • Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has announced that Dr BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on 14 April will be observed as the ‘Day of Equality’ or ‘Samathuva Naal!
  • He also announced that the selected works of Ambedkar will be translated into Tamil.
  • A pledge will also be administered on that day.
  • A full-sized bronze statue of Ambedkar will be erected in the Ambedkar memorial in Chennai.

 

2) World Art Day: 15 April

  • To honour and mark the birthday of the greatest artist of all time, Leonardo da Vinci, UNESCO’s General Conference in 2012 declared April 15 as World Art Day.
  • Vinci’s Last Supper and Mona Lisa are some of the most popular paintings.
  • The day was adopted by the International Association of Art and aims to promote the development, diffusion, and enjoyment of art.

3) Egypt approves India as wheat supplier

  • Egypt, which is one of the largest importers of wheat from Ukraine and Russia, has approved India as a wheat supplier.
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal informed this on 15 April 2022.
  • Egypt is looking to import 1 million tonnes of wheat from India and would need 2,40,000 tonnes in April 2022.
  • India’s wheat exports increased to USD 1.74 billion in April-January 2021-22.

 

4) ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi’ launched in additional 126 cities

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched the ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi’ program in additional 126 cities across 14 States/ UTS.
  • I The scheme aims to provide an affordable working capital loan to street vendors.
  • It was launched on 4th January 2021 in 125 cities in Phase 1, covering approximately 35 lakh street vendors and their families.

 

5) IndiGo appoints Vikram Mehta, former IAF Chief BS Dhanoa to its board

  • IndiGo has appointed Vikram Singh Mehta and former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa as the Independent Non-Executive Directors.
  • Vikram Singh Mehta is currently Chairman and Distinguished Fellow of CSEP (Centre for Social and Economic Progress).
  • BS Dhanoa served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South-Western Air Command before taking over as the Vice Chief of Air Staff (VCAS) in May 2015.

 

6) A new book “The Boy Who Wrote a Constitution” released

  • A new book “The Boy Who Wrote a Constitution”, was released on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar’s 131st birth anniversary on 14 April 2022.
  • It seeks to inform children of the challenging boyhood and growing up years of India’s first law minister Dr BR Ambedkar.
  • The fact-based drama is written by noted. playwright and author Rajesh Talwar.
  • It is published by Ponytale Books.

 

7) Himachal Pradesh Day: 15 April

  • On this day in 1948, Himachal came into existence as a centrally administered province when its four districts Mandi, Chamba, Mahasu, and Sirmour were merged with 30 princely states.
  • In 1951, Himachal was categorized as a ‘C’ state under the Indian Constitution with a combined population of 9,83,367 people.

8) India wins the bid to host Harvard’s HPAIR ACONF 2022 in New Delhi

  • The Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) has announced that India will be the host country for HPAIR ACONF 2022 in New Delhi.
  • HPAIR is a Harvard University-based student organization that operates the largest student-run conference in Asia.
  • The objective of the conference is to create a forum that will connect young professionals with global leaders.

 

9) Govt enhances authorised share capital of 3 insurance companies

  • The government has enhanced the authorized share capital of three public sector general insurance companies – National Insurance Company Limited, Oriental Insurance Company Limited, and United India Insurance Company.
  • This will facilitate a capital infusion of ₹5,000 cr in these companies.
  • For the National Insurance, authorized capital will now be 15,000 cr as against the present €7,500 cr.

 

10) World Bank cuts India’s GDP growth forecast to 8% from 8.7% in FY23

  • The World Bank has slashed India’s GDP forecast for the fiscal year 2022-23 to 8% from 8.7% predicted earlier.
  • It has also cut the growth outlook for South Asia.
  • It raised crisis-hit Sri Lanka’s 2022 growth forecast to 2.4% from 2.1%.
  • The World Bank raised its growth forecast for Pakistan, to 4.3% from 3.4%.
  • India’s growth in GDP is estimated at 8.9 against a contraction Of 6.6%.

11) Odisha CM unveils logo of 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup

  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik unveiled the logo of FIH Senior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 at Kalinga Stadium on 14 April 2022, in Bhubaneswar.
  • The state will organize the tournament both in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29, 2023.
  • In 2024, FIH will be in Muscat, Oman.

13) Godrej Industries announces launch of Godrej Capital

  • Godrej Industries Limited (GIL) has announced the launch of Godrej Capital Limited (GCL).
  • GCL is a subsidiary of GIL and is the holding entity for Godrej Housing Finance (an HFC) and Godrej Finance Limited (an NBFC).
  • GIL has committed to invest INR 1,500 crore in the capital in GCL.
  • Godrej Capital currently has its footprint across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, and Pune.

 

14) India to host Street Child Cricket World Cup in 2023

  • India will host the Street Child Cricket World Cup in 2023.
  • Organised by Street Child United and Save the Children India, the Street Child Cricket World Cup will welcome 22 teams from 16 countries to India.
  • In 2019, this championship was held in London where eight teams competed, and Team India South lifted the cup after beating hosts England.
  • This event will take place in September 2023.

 

15) NHPC to develop green hydrogen project in Himachal Pradesh

  • NHPC Ltd has signed an MoU with the district administration of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.
  • As per the MoU, NHPC shall develop a pilot green hydrogen mobility project including hydrogen production.
  • This project will be executed by NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NHPC.
  • Under the project, a 300-kilowatt solar plant will be set up.

 

16) IBBI to launch 3rd National Online Quiz on 16 April 2022

  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) in collaboration with MyGov. and BSE Investors’ Protection Fund is conducting the ‘3rd National Online Quiz on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016!
  • It will promote awareness and understanding of the Code among various stakeholders, across the country.
  • The Quiz is open from 16th April 2022 to 15th May 2022.

 

17) Government exceeds Financial Year 2022 asset monetisation target

  • The Centre has completed asset monetization worth Rs 96,000 crore during FY22, surpassing the target of Rs 88,000 crore.
  • For FY23, it has set itself a goal of Rs 1.62 trillion and already has a pipeline of assets worth Rs 1.6 trillion under advanced stages of implementation.
  • The Centre is looking to monetise assets worth Rs 1.79 trillion and Rs 1.67 trillion in FY24 and FY25, respectively.
