1) Event of Week: COP 27

  • 27th Conference of the Parties is taking place in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh.
  • India’s agenda: Developing countries, including India, will also push rich countries to agree to a new global climate finance target – also known as the new collective quantified goal on climate finance (NCQG)
  • India will discuss on the mantra of Lifestyle for
  • Environment (LIFE).

 

2) Act Of the Week: Constitution 103rd Amendment Act

  • The SCI declaired103rd Constitutional Amendment “Constitutional” which establishes a 10% reservation for the EWS, making this act newsworthy.
  • In order to implement economic reservation, Articles 15 and 16 were modified.
  • Amendment to Article 15: enables State to make special provisions in education.
  • Amendment to Article 16: enables State to make provision for reservation in appointments.

 

3) Slovenia elects first female President, Natasa Pirc Musar

  • In Slovenia, Natasa Pirc Musar has been elected as the country’s first female President.
  • She won almost 54 per cent of the vote, ahead of Anze Logar who got just over 46 per cent vote.
  • Natasa Pirc Musar is a journalist and lawyer.
  • She was hired as a lawyer to protect the interests of Donald Trump’s wife, during her Trump’s presidency.

 

4) Mathematician RL Kashyap passes away

  • Mathematician RL Kashyap passed away in November 2022.
  • He worked as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computers for three decades at Purdue University in America.
  • He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 by the central government for his considerable service in the field of studying the Vedas.
  • He was the founder of Sakshi Sanstha and wrote more than 50 books

 

 

5) IIT Bombay ranked best educational institute in South Asia

  • IIT Bombay is the top educational institute in South Asia, as per the recently released QS Asia University Rankings 2023.
  • IIT Bombay bagged 40th position in the QS ranking followed by IIT Delhi which secured rank 46.
  • Other institutes which were a part of the rankings inlude IISc Bangalore (rank 52), IIT Madras (53), IIT Kharagpur (61), IIT Kanpur (66) University of Delhi (85), and more.

 

6) Wholesale Price Index inflation in October eases to 8.39 per cent

  • Dropping below the double-digit mark for the first time since March 2021, Wholesale Price-based Inflation (WPI) for October eased to 8.39 per cent in October from 10.70% in September 2022.
  • Vegetable prices segment eased to 17.61 per cent in the reported period against 39.66 per cent in September.
  • The fuel and power segment eased to 23.17% in October from 32.61% in preceding month.

 

7) Know About: Wholesale Price Index

  • The Wholesale Price Index is the price of a representative basket of wholesale goods.
  • Some countries use WPI changes as a central measure of inflation.
  • But now India has adopted new CPI to measure inflation.
  • However, United States now reports a producer price index instead.
  • The WPI is published by the Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

 

8) Children’s Day (Nehru Jayanti): 14th November

  • Every year in India Nov 14th is celebrated as Children’s Day to mark the birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, the 1st Prime Minister of India (1947 to 1964).
  • Nehru, fondly called ‘Chacha Nehru’, was known for his affection for kids.
  • He also established Children’s Film Society India in 1955 to create indigenous cinema exclusively for kids.
  • World Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th Nov.

 

9) 41st India International Trade Fair to begin on 14th Nov

  • The 41st edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF) will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from 14th Nov 2022.
  • Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will inaugurate the fair, which will continue till 27th of Nov.
  • In 2022 the theme of the trade fair is ‘Vocal For Local, Local to Global.’
  • Uttar Pradesh & Kerala are participating as Focus States in the fair.

 

10) Sri Lanka to host U-19 Men’s T-20 World Cup 2024

  • International Cricket Council on 13th Nov 2022 announced that the 2024 Under-19 men’s T-20 World Cup will be hosted by Sri Lanka while the 2026 edition will be hosted by Zimbabwe & Namibia.
  • The 2025 U-19 women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Malaysia & Thailand & 2027 U-19 women’s edition will be hosted by Bangladesh & Nepal.
  • Also, Greg Barclay has been re-elected as ICC chairman in Nov ’22.

 

11) 7th edition of Indo-French joint air exercise culminates in Jodhpur

  • The 7th edition of the bilateral air exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) & the French Air & Space Force (FASF), ‘Exercise Garuda-VII’ concluded at Air Force Station, Jodhpur on 12th Nov 2022.
  • It was the first occasion for IAF’s LCA Tejas and the LCH Prachand to participate in any international exercise.
  • The first, third & fifth editions were conducted in India in 2003, 2006 and 2014.

 

12) World Diabetes Day: 14th November

  • World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on Nov 14th to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting, who discovered the insulin hormone along with Charles Herbert Best in 1922.
  • It was first observed in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) & World Health Organisation (WHO).
  • At present, 10 out of 100 adults are suffering from diabetes.
  • 2022 Theme: ‘Access to diabetes education’
